In connection with the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s investigation into the assassination of U.S. Congressman LEO J. RYAN at Port Kaituma, Guyana, South America, on November 18, 1978, a tape recording was obtained. This tape recording was located in Jonestown, Guyana, South America, and was turned over to U.S. Officials in Guyana and subsequently transported to the United States.

On June 11, 1979, Special Agent (name deleted) reviewed the tape number 1B102-C35. This tape was found to contain the following: Conversations between two females, SARAH or LUCY and MABEL concerning a controversy over the use of a car followed by a conversation between a male and female concerning a car license plate. There follows a conversation between a male and female concerning return of children to their homes. All of the above appear to be recorded telephone conversations.

This tape recording was located in Jonestown, Guyana, South America, and was turned over to U.S. Officials in Guyana and subsequently transported to the United States.

On June 11, 1979, Special Agent (name deleted) reviewed the tape numbered 1B102-C36. This tape was found to contain the following:

Side A contains phone calls to the press, (one SANDRA INGRAM to the Press Democrat and the second TIM CLANCEY to Mr. HUNTER, paper not identified, and last RON JACOBS to Eyewitness News) all refuting charges by relatives of’ Jonestown residents. Also included is a shortwave transmission to Guyana regarding medical matters. Side B contains a phone call between two Temple women.

This tape recording was located in Jonestown, Guyana, South America, and was turned over to U.S. Officials in Guyana and subsequently transported to the United States.

On June 11, 1979, Special Agent (name deleted) reviewed the tape numbered 1B102-C38. This tape was found to contain the following: A male describing this life and activities and his introduction to and eventual membership in People’s Temple. Because of “the speech patterns and vernacular used”, much of the narrative is inaudible. He states that at the time he was wanted by the police in Oakland, Berkeley and Hayward as well as the California Highway Patrol (CHP). JIM JONES helps him out of his difficulties end he eventually moves to Jonestown which he praises.

Aunt MABEL doesn’t want to move to Jonestown because “they” took away her income and property.

The amount of monies in question is $48,510.07 and the issues concerns [concern] how the People’s Temple acquired the monies.

On June 8, 1979, Special Agent (name deleted) reviewed the tape numbered 1B102-1. This tape was found to contain the following: JAMES JONES speaking to two male members of the community who ran away and were captured.

JONES stated that this community cannot tolerate people leaving and living on their own.

The mother of one of the runaways says they should be killed and she wants to kill them, and then commit suicide so no members of the community will get in trouble with the government.

RYAN at Port Kaituma, Guyana, South America, on November 18, 1978, a tape recording was obtained. This tape recording was located in Jonestown, Guyana, South America, and was turned over to U.S. Officials in Guyana and subsequently transported to the United States.

On June 26, 1979, Special Agent (name deleted) reviewed the tape numbered 1B110-64. This tape was found to contain the following:

JIM JONES providing a lecture and question and answer session with the Guyanese followers. This tape consists of approximately 34 tape minutes. The latter portions of one side appear to be recordings of passing vehicles interspersed with unintelligible conversation. The remaining portions of the tape are blank and appear to have no items of an evidentiary nature.
