Remembrances |

“Mary and her husband, William, were one of our interracial couples, sort of an odd couple, as William was much taller and 24 years younger than Mary. Mary had a hunchback and one leg shorter than the other, and used a cane when walking. They attended regularly for at least 2 or 3 years before the exodus to Guyana. Mary had a lively personality, and was the outgoing one, while William seemed glad to be in the background, socially. At Jonestown, Mary worked in child care, on the inspection committee, and as a cottage supervisor. Edith Roller's journals refer to Mary as a friend, helper and student in the adult classes. Anyone who got to know Mary met a rare and great human being, and a friend if they needed one. RIP, dear sister. ” - Kathryn Barbour |
