Searching the 1978 Journal Entries

Information was taken from journal entries and entered into a data base. The following information fields were filled – where data was available – into a record for each day’s entry:
Date, day, get up time, asleep time, sleep late hours, no. of meals, crisis, guests, breakfast menu, dinner menu, treat, Rally (y/n), agricultural report (y/n), entertainment (y/n), confrontation (y/n), persons mentioned, persons confronted, topics in entry.
Each “page” covers one week, Sunday to Saturday, for a current total of 31 weeks.

 

Visual Search Index:

1. Weekly listings: meals, visitors, awake/asleep times, activities, more…

• Look through listings to find items or topics of interest.
• Check that Journal entry in the Roller Journals.

Searchable Indices:

2. People Mentioned by entry dates
3. People Confronted in a Rally by entry date

To use  Searchable Indices

By setting up a pdf file with only several fields from a data base, such as “date” and “people mentioned,” Acrobat Reader can search for people named and show the entry it which it is located.

An example:

Click on the “People Mentioned” button above to open the pdf file.
• Click on Search in the Tool icons at top of window to open a search window.
Type in the name you would like to search for and press the Search button. 
• Type in “Cary Grant” (he was mentioned once in a movie discussion)
• One Result comes up. It shows the entry with his name amongst others.
• Entry 8-16-1978, with his name highlighted, is in “people mentioned” field. 
• If there had been 10 Results found, you could click on each one to take you to its location in the index, highlighted.
• Go to August Journal file, Wednesday the 16th to read the full entry.
