RYAN at Port Kaituma, Guyana, South America, on November 18, 1978, a tape recording was obtained. This tape recording was located in Jonestown, Guyana, South America, and was turned over to U.S. Officials in Guyana and subsequently transported to the United States.

On March 22, 1979, Special Agent (name deleted) reviewed the tape numbered 1B62 #118. This tape was found to contain the following:

Side A initially dealt with a kindergarten or nursery school class learning their ABC’s. There was then a telephone conversation in which a female caller talked of a school problem between her child and a child associated with the People’s Temple.

Further, there was a telephone conversation from MIKE PROKES, Assistant Pastor of People’s Temple, to a Mr. DE MURK (phonetic) at Good Advertising KDKI (phonetic), regarding a Christmas program. MIKE PROKES said that People’s Temple did not have one, but would be willing to contribute financially.

Lastly, there was a telephone conversation between Reverend JONES and a Mr. DENNY (phonetic). Reverend JONES advised that he was infuriated with a Mrs. MARBLE (phonetic) who called saying that People’s Temple was in trouble with Welfare regarding some child. They discussed the problem at length with Mr. DENNY (phonetic) saying that he would look into the matter personally.

Side B consisted briefly of a continuation of the conversation between Reverend JONES and Mr. DENNY (phonetic). The rest of this side was blank.

Nothing was contained thereon which was considered to be of evidentiary nature or beneficial to the investigation of Congressman RYAN. -

Side B consisted of a radio broadcast requesting suggestions, ideas and endorsements for a community based program. Most of this side was blank.

On March 26, 1979, Special Agent (name deleted) reviewed the tape numbered 1B62 #120. This tape was found to contain the following:

Side A consisted of an interview with a couple of individuals regarding their involvement in youth group meetings (while in the dorms at some college or university) and their associations with the church at that time. A female referred to as DAVIS, advised that they went down there in 1969. Weekly meetings were held at which time members discussed problems and participated in para- military practices. The following names, all phonetic spellings, were mentioned as having been involved in the group sessions: MIKE CARTMEL, JACK BEAM, Jr., JIM COBB, JOYCE SPARKS, and ANITA ATKELLER.

Side B was a continuation of this interview. The female interviewer spoke of revolutionary leadership training which consisted of cross-country marches, calisthenics and learning military maneuvers. Weapons were accumulated (hand pistols), although there were no specific plans for a revolution.

Side One - A statement by HARRIET TROPP (phonetic) with a reference to Mr. GARRY’s office. This statement discussed concerned relatives and citizens hiring mercenaries to enter Guyana. TROPP asserts that armed agents entered Guyana and attempted, unsuccessfully, to assassinate JIM JONES and others. TROPP mentions a forthcoming trip of a group of relatives from the United States to Guyana within three to four weeks of this transmission, which is an international phone patch.

TROPP states that their ultimate commitment is that they (the members of the People’s Temple) will not submit quietly to interminable plotting and persecution by the politically motivated conspiracy and they will resist, actively, putting their lives on the line.

TROPP then introduced members of People’s Temple who made various statements to their respective family members in the United States. Each statement expressed a desire to be left alone and to allow them to remain in Guyana without harassment. Background sounds indicate much coaching in these statements by Ms. TROPP and a male voice which may be JIM JONES. These speakers included MARK WAGNER, age 16, MARIA KATSARIS, age 24, WESLEY BRIEDENBACH, age 18, and LEANN HARRIS, age 21.

Side Two - Statements similar to those on Side One, including the coaching. The speakers include LEANN HARRIS, BILLY OLIVER, CHRIS ROSINKO, MARY GRIFFITH, CAROL KERNS, age 19, BOB DAVIS, MARCY SIMON, BARBARA SIMON, CASSANDRA MINOR, age 21, CHRISTINE YOUNG and MARCELINE JONES, wife of JIM JONES. Mrs. JONES stated she would sue the San Francisco press on her return to San Francisco for defamation of character against JIM JONES and the conspiracy against him.

The tape concluded with a question and answer period between members of the press and persons in Guyana via the same international phone patch.

(3) Revolutionary suicide

(4) An indictment of TIM STOEN for his rejection of Jones ideology. JONES said several times (regarding STOEN) "I could kill him", "I got the man who can get him." JONES also said (to the assembly), "If TIM gets into a court of law, he can kill you (the assembly)," "I’d like to make him tiger bait."

(5) TIM STOEN is under constant surveillance by JONES’ group.

(6) JONES appears at one point to be addressing a "learning" group apparently children who are being disciplined for some reason.

(7) Dr. GREEN is shipping for 13,000 pounds of medicine to Jonestown.

(8) JONES mentions that he could call a "White Night" by saying "go thou send me" or It’s it", a sign to attack the enemies.

(9) JONES said "Andrew Young, according to the foreign minister of Guyana is gonna’ be sacrificed just before the elections… He’s a liability… and yet he lifted up the lone vote in the security counsel to vote for Rhodesia."
