Theater
Project Brings Jonestown to Stage in October Alternative Considerations of Jonestown & Peoples Temple http://jonestown.sdsu.edu
After more than two years
of work, The Z Space looks forward to October 2003 when the Bay Area
will have a first look at the new play being developed with writer/director
Leigh Fondakowski and her team.
The presentations of the work-in-progress will take place over two weekends,
giving Bay Area residents an opportunity to experience the play as it
develops toward its eventual world premiere.
“From the outset our goal has been to open the doors to this work
in commemoration of the 25th Anniversary,” said Z Space Artistic
Director David Dower. “We wanted the play to inform and expand
the conversation around this important milestone. Inviting people into
the creative process allows a dialogue between this community and the
play as it is being developed. This sort of interaction between the
audience and the art is a hallmark of our work, and we are proud to
be able to foster this dialogue.”
The Z Space is a leading theater development center located in San Francisco
currently celebrating its 10th anniversary. Previous Z projects have
earned many local and national awards over the years, including two
Pulitzer Prize nominations for drama.
“This is by far the most challenging project we’ve ever
commissioned,” said Dower. “The investment from the people
most impacted by these events is both humbling and inspiring as we struggle
to meet the demands of this process. I’m proud to be supporting
this work and look forward to sharing it with people.”
The October schedule is still being set at this writing. People interested
in attending these presentations can stay informed at The Z Space website
