All Ruby's babies knew they were royalty in our midst, a blissful world unto themselves. Ruby Carroll, their 41-year-old grandmother, would sprawl in a corner in her long black dress and her brood would fill one of the little "dressing" rooms (3 or 4) across the hall from the sanctuary.
Ruby never wanted for helpers, and was usually joined by one of her sons (Robert Carroll or John Gardener) or one of our teenagers lavishing the babies and toddlers with attention, and running any errands Ruby couldn't.
Ruby's grandsons were all born in the summer, with all birthdays occurring within a month and twelve days; healthy, handsome and confident, with one shy Capricorn granddaughter, Mickey, all incredible kids, loving and loved.
