“Mary Cook had no relatives at Jonestown, and no responsibilities other than to be a senior. I recognize her face, though, and she surely was one of the ladies who waited for our buses in the Los Angeles Temple kitchen, and dished up bowls of hot oatmeal, well flavored with brown sugar and milk. I never asked her name, then. I sure looked forward to that breakfast, and was glad to get it after the overnight bus trip. It would take me 24 hours to get used to the LA air, which back in the seventies caused headaches and a kind of sensory numbness, before emission controls were adopted. I always wondered how the natives of LA managed to be so energetic! RIP, Mary Cook, you are so beautiful, may all who knew and mourn you be at peace knowing you are with the angels now, and smiling down on us. ” - Kathryn Barbour
