“This was one of the greatest shocks of my life. Mrs Keaton, better known as Rosa Moreland, was an usher and first-aid worker at Pilgrim Baptist Church in South Central Los Angeles. She was very well respected and didn't allow nonsense from the young people in the church. Its just so unbelievable that this would happen to her. I sure it was against her will. RIP ” - Anthony Taylor

“In Memory of my mother, Rosa Lorenda Mae Wood Moreland The person listed as "Rosa Lorenda Mae Keaton" was formally known as my mother, Rosa Lorenda Mae Wood Moreland, before she met Tommie Keaton following my father`s death. I visited "Peoples Temple" when it was on Hoover St. in Los Angeles. There were guards at the door and they wanted to search me. I gave them a special reason why they should not, and they let me in. I saw Jim Jones on the stage with a woman who said she had cancer. He reached his hand into her clothing (letting a piece of chicken liver, or something, slide into his hand from out of a bag up his sleeve) and pulled the "chicken liver out of the woman" , saying that he had the cancer and that she was healed. I told my mother when we returned to her house. She did not believe me. That incident led me to believe that Jim Jones was a master con artist with very good slight of hand skills. I am surprised that I learned in one hour what the U.S. State Dept., etc was unable to learn with all of their monitoring, etc. My mother was a good Christian woman who believed that she should go where her husband went. If it were not for her belief in Christian ethics, she may not have fallen for the manipulative techniques used by Jones and his associates. I would still like to know why the State Department remained ignorant about the existence of her two children, myself and my older sister, whom she raised for 21 years...Long before meeting Tommie. May she rest in peace!! Darius ” - Darius Moreland
