“Jose Simon was a wonderful part of the Peoples Temple family. He was the Elder Simon of a large family of Native Americans from Lake County. His clan was quiet and hardworking, and he had wise and thoughtful input in agricultural work being done in Jonetown. Some of his family wanted to leave with Congressman Ryan but some wanted to stay. I am really sorry that they came so close to surviving and then didn't. ” - Laura Johnston Kohl

“I knew Jose from around 1947 when my family moved to Middletown. He and my father worked together on the Diamond D Ranch for many years. I grew up with his children. He was a good and honorable man. RIP Jose, I know you and my dad are swapping stories about the good old days. ” - Nick Bennett
