“I first met Peter in the summer of 1968. I was hitchhiking cross country, broke and homeless. Peter took me in, gave me food and a place to stay. I left for awhile and went to Florida but as fate would have it i would return to Chicago just in time for the police riots there. Peter had moved but I knew of one other place where Peter might be. He was there as was Mary. They had not yet become an item. But over that winter they would do so. I left for Canada that spring and Peter and Mary would travel to California. We kept in contact for sometime but there letters started to fade. I think this was wend they started to become involved with the people's temple but I'm not sure. Peter and Mary both were wonderful caring people with huge caring hearts. I would hear of their death some time later . I miss them both, the world would be much better had they survived. ” - William Rettler

“When I was in high school, Peter and I attended the same church, First Presbyterian Church of York, Pennsylvania. He and his mother lived just a block over from us.” - Robert Eakle
