Remembrances |
|
“Minnie Buckley and her children were residents of Redwood Valley and members of Peoples Temple when my husband and I joined. I thought of her as a mentor and a great mother. She and her children had escaped an abusive husband in Mississippi, a minister, to come up to the Valley, but exactly when I do not know. She had a glass eye because of the beatings she endured while married. Her children were all incredibly gentle, caring and well-mannered. In spite of the difficulties of their childhood, they knew they were loved.
She started using her middle name, Luna, in 1976. She was an incredible woman, a matriarch without pretension, or self-importance. I will always miss her sound judgment and wisdom. ” - Kathryn Barbour |
