Remembrances |
|
“This is my mom's youngest sister ” - Esther Jones“This is my cousin Joyce who died in the Jungles of Guyana in 1978. My stepfather, Fred Douglas, was her Uncle and her and I and my cousin Calvin all played together as children. I myself had been to the Peoples Temple during the Christmas Holiday season in 1977. I attended the Temple in my attempt to get away from my drug use and I was at that time intrigued by the possibility that I could go to South America. I clearly did not follow through because I was just too self centered to believe that a white preacher had the answers for black people so I tried to become a Black Muslum on the other end of the block from the Temple. I am interested in writing a remembrance of my cousin Joyce because I was very cruel to her as a child. So much so that I long ago dedicated my life to her in the hopes that I can make an amends to her. ” - harrison danley“ Ambushed: Remembering Joyce Douglas” - Harrison Danley |
