“Dominique and I were in the same first grade class in Gary, Indiana. I distinctly remember her because she had such a sweet disposition and a warm smile. I was so sad when she and her family moved to California because, although California sounded like a fun place to live, I was losing my friend and realized that I might never see her again.
When the tragedy occurred, I recall a picture of her and of her brother posted on the front page of the Gary Post-Tribune along with a story announcing their deaths. Growing up, I often thought of her and her little brother, and wondered what she would be like now if she were still with us. As a child, I never wondered why this happened to her. I just knew that someone had taken my friend away from me forever this time.
I would like Dominique's surviving family to know that their little girl and her family are not forgotten. Dominique will always be fondly remembered as my sweet, first grade friend. ” - Felicia Emery“Dominique was one of my best friends as a child. I remember her loving family and they were wonderful people. I will never forget the endless hours of play and fun sleepover. Dominique taught me about ghosts and the sound of her grandmother (then deceased) moving about the attic as we would play for hours. I will always remember her and only today did I confirm what i prayed hadnt happened. I only wish she would have been permitted to stay with us in Indiana with us and grow to be the beautiful woman that i know she would have been. As we remember her let's never foget the tragedy that took away and fight dilegently for truth and democracy which demands wisdom. ” - Nichelle Dawson |
