“Maria was a good friend of mine in California and then in Guyana. We worked on the same agricultural crews. She was a very kind and warmhearted person. She had a good sense of humor and often lightened up our work with jokes or funny observations. She was younger than I was by about five years, so I was sort of an older sister.
