“Rose Shelton was always the taskmaster, taking care of the things that Jim needed. She seemed to think she was his mother and took that responibility very seriously. When she spent time with her best friends, Alice and Luedella, she was chatty and vivacious. That was the only time she really relaxed. She was delighted when Jim (Jones) was entertaining others with quips and stories, but immediately got back to business afterwards. She had seen much in her life and seemed to find total fulfillment in making sure Jim was comfortable in both Georgetown and Jonestown. ” - Laura Johnston Kohl

“My Grandmother in-law was Alice Stevenson that I loved. Rose's biological half sister. She stayed with me for about a week in Los Angeles. I first saw her as a trickster. She was Rev. Jim Jones nurse concealing his black magic. They wanted my little 2nd grade sister, Doris in the cult. God kept my Eyes Wide Open. Rose never opened up, but she wanted to help Alice. They were afraid of the mystic Jim McElvane, Peoples Temple Enforcer. I was always hopeful that she would feel safe enough to really open up, but she died in Jonestown.” - Ray Bullock
