Re San Francisco teletype to Bureau and Sacramento, December 15, 1978.<\/p>\n
On December 20, 1978, [name deleted], California Secretary of State’s Office, Legal Division, advised that December 19, 1978, the California Corporation known as “People’s Temple of the Disciples of Christ”, a nonprofit corporation, filed a notice of election to dissolve with the California Secretary of State’s Office. [Name deleted] stated this notice was signed by five voting members of the Corporation which apparently was majority of the voting members. He stated this is the first step in the dissolution of a Corporation<\/p>\n

under California procedures.<\/p>\n
[Name deleted] stated that this notice was brought to the California Secretary of State’s Office by messenger from San Francisco who was at that time given a notarized copy which is to be filed with the State Superior Court in San Francisco. This notice will be part of a petition for the Superior Court to supervise the dissolution of the Corporation. Thereafter, the Superior Court will supervise the distribution of funds from the corporation to creditors.<\/p>\n
[Name deleted] also said the Charitable Trust Unit of the California Attorney General’s Office in San Francisco, telephone number 557-2645, will also be involved in the supervision of the dissolution of the Corporation. He noted that the Attorney General’s Office will ensure that all monies raised by the Corporation for charitable purposes will be used for charitable purposes after the dissolution. He said that although the monies are to be used for charitable purposes, any creditors of the corporation still have first claim on the assets of the corporation.<\/p>\n
[Name deleted] stated that in this regard the Superior Court is <\/p>\n

authorized to enter an order to require all creditors to file claims against the People’s Temple Corporation by a specific deadline.<\/p>\n
[Name deleted] stated that additional information concerning the dissolution of the Corporation could be obtained from the California Attorney General’s Charitable Trust Unit in San Francisco and from the clerk of the Superior Court\u2019s Office in San Francisco.<\/p>\n
