Dear Mr. Chairman:<\/p>\n

Reference is made to your letter dated April 17, 1979, to Special Agent [name deleted] [Dan Shaffer<\/span>] of our Criminal Investigative Division. Your letter enclosed a copy of a “New York Times” article, December 20, 1978, regarding a document purported to have been authored by Reverend Jim Jones of the People’s Temple. You requested in your letter that you be furnished by this Bureau a copy of the document mentioned in the “Times” article along with an evaluation of its authenticity.<\/p>\n

Based upon information furnished, no such document identifiable with the subject of your request is in the possession of the FBI. We are unaware of the documents referred to in the “Times” article and are therefore not in a position to comment regarding its authenticity.<\/p>\n
