Many of the names are in code, although \u2013 as the letter itself reveals \u2013 \u201cOlga\u201d was the code-name for Debbie Blakey. In addition, it is almost certain that \u201cMrs. Glenn\u201d was the code name for Marceline Jones, since the name is followed by the notation \u201c(MJ)\u201d.]<\/em><\/p>\n

\u2013 ask if he would like Guyana to submit Zita for evaluations<\/span> [Handwritten substitution: “press criminal charges”]. Its [It’s] already been started except for the written work and they want that today\u2026 if he doesn’t do it\u2013 he might get sued later or JJ might.<\/p>\n

\u2013 Neil probably needs to do this for good faith with Guyana because Guy. started the program. But Pete didn’t want the other thing- to make a call to her and this would be much more definite. The credentials are supposed to be in right now.<\/p>\n

\u2013 1st thing in am. ask him about Zita and the general thing about press we were talking about- National Inq. [reporter Gordon Lindsay]\/\/ ask him why he sees N.I. as an issue, because Mike P. [Prokes] sd. nobody listens to N.I.- the only thing he could possibly see is him distorting the children’s program\u2026 seemed like the plane was very interested in how the children lived\u2026 in the communal living setting\u2026 they may try to make something out of that\u2026 the children did designs etc., murials etc. on the wall. They might say that we live this way for surveillance.<\/p>\n

\u2013 ask about Zita and the general thing with Marty Hansen.<\/p>\n

\u2013 when they flew over\u2026 they did not see Lil\u2019s counterpart or any ‘clothes\u2019 At all. no police or anything like that\u2026 no fences\u2026 even the horses and cattle roam where they want.\/\/ except when they flew over it was sunday, June 25, and on Sundays most people work 1.2 [1\/2] day in the am. when they flew over \u2013 there were some people working in the fields \u2013 no more than 6 or so \u2013 they could completely distort that if they wanted.<\/p>\n

\u2013 the kinds of things that are used for leisure\u2013 clothes etc. could be distroted<\/p>\n

\u2013 all those things in article are absolute fabrication\/\/ but the person who came here\u2026 would have to have the perspective\u2026 there are murals and designs\u2026 our philosophy is quite evident.<\/p>\n

\u2013 why does he think we should have 3 or more now? they think NI will have really only local interest and then for the wrong motivations \u2013 why bother with them?<\/p>\n

\u2013 dont know about Herb Caen \u2013 you have to put everything in the perspective of that matter of Yvette because [Minister of Home Affairs Vibert] Mingo said Venezuela would get concerned \u2013 nobody would say otherwise\u2026 unless they want to lie\u2026 but some people might. Nobody honest to report\u2026 this is exemplified by what Zita had to say\u2026 she knows better than that.<\/p>\n

\u2013 also Mingo thought that Venz. might still have his old prejudice agst. the ones definite religion\u2013 he often refers to them\u2013 Gail and Barry. but they seem more concerned right now about CIA<\/p>\n

\u2013 there was once lies told on Guyana that Cuba gave them arms\u2026 Venz. has always been friendly\u2013 when they came to the project they sd. [Guyana Deputy Prime Minister Ptolemy] Reid had spoken very highly of us \u2013 and was very impressed.<\/p>\n

\u2013 also the press told us a lot about that Canada will have to learn to respect Cuba’s and Guyana’s relationship.\/\/ they were more worried about this before [Pres. Jimmy] Carter came into office. but Mingo is a good and wise person\u2026<\/p>\n

\u2013 there are a lot of things of interested to Pete\u2013 new since he has been there\/\/ Guyana is quite anxious to have Russia as their helper\u2026 but apparently Guyana’s situation interferred too much in his personal life sd. Guy. had to have the PPP and PNC had to do it exactly the same\u2026 don’t know all the details\u2026 they even considered that from what I understood they were in Russia to help with PPP’s policitcal prejudices\u2026 one guy in particular- black\/\/ remember when PPP spoke about it? PPP’s Golden Rule: “Vote your own” \u2013 Russia wouldn’t sensure that.<\/p>\n

\u2013 Hassan sd. not to do things only denominational \u2013 no problem \u2013 JJ isn’t inclined to do it that way anyway.<\/p>\n

\u2013 all PNC wanted\/\/[ Guyana Prime Minister Forbes] Burnham \u2013 was for Russia to say that he didn’t approve of that method of treatment (boat your own)\u2013 and he wouldn’t\u2026 he knew that was the only way PNC could maintain his health\u2026 and he is underweight<\/p>\n

\u2013 Russia didn’t know how much time he could provide\/\/ thus it ended up China and her neighbor \u2013 North Korea\/\/ were able to get more time\u2026 willing to get more time.<\/p>\n

\u2013 the PNC would have been glad to have Russia\/\/ and she wasn’t asking Rus. to give arms or anything like Cuba\u2026 this kind of disturbed PNC\u2013 because they couldn’t change that 1 mode of treatment\u2026 tho Russia is still quite friendly\u2013 but didn’t want to get that much involved.<\/p>\n

\u2013 sort of vexed the PNC that there is some indication that Cuba only has sent black people to help Africa\/\/ they are very objective about Cuba otherwise except for that 1 sensitive spot<\/p>\n

\u2013 this is all background for Pete\/\/ difficult to state that JJ is particularly fond of Cuba and her dad\/\/ Russia\/\/ JJ likes Russia’s kindness to Africa\/\/<\/p>\n

\u2013 one time talking to Yvette\/\/ JJ thought that should his health fail\u2026 he wanted to help Russia and his children wherever he could and Russia said something to Ann\u2013 like “why don’t you go give your help to the United Nation[\u201c] and that disturbed a lot of Ann\u2019s folks.<\/p>\n

\u2013 confidential to Pete\/\/ still Russia is very friendly and helpful\/\/ and we have their letter (?) \u2013 TASS?<\/p>\n

\u2013 and Russia was not sure she could help us with JJ’s kids\/\/ on the other hand\u2013 Annie was\u2026 talked about all of PT\u2013 but some got the feeling that Grady is so ecumenically minded\u2026 takes alot of strong work for a person in her health\u2013 some couldn’t understand why Grady couldn’t help\u2013 with his size etc. and little old Annie could\u2026 she was willing to talk about it\u2026<\/p>\n

\u2013 therein lies the substance why not get Mannings nerves all disturbed but we will do whatever not that particular anymore<\/p>\n

things are going well for J and PT and Hassan says they will help\u2013 but gives strong advice\u2026 not to show any favorites\u2026 he thinks that’s what the main concern is\u2013 with Sally\u2013 she doesn’t want to mention Russia\/\/ really Sally’s problem is with Russia getting involved with Guyana.<\/p>\n

Hassan sd. if that was resolved with the press because that is what worries Venz.\/\/ that was concern to him back before Carter\u2026 and it was based on nothing\u2026<\/p>\n

\u2013 and Milton and Olga\u2013 lies may worry him more\u2026<\/p>\n

3\/\/<\/p>\n

\u2013 the church that J is with \u2013 there is not question about its noble aims and purposes. Socialist is the best \u2013 when it gets right down to it\u2026 there is a lot of sectarianism. when you have so many needy folks and not getting the job done\u2013 none to help you realize you have to do it yourself\u2026<\/p>\n

\u2013 no question for J if no one accepted it\u2026 the rightness of the approach at this stage\u2026 the churches are very sectarian.<\/p>\n

\u2013 North Korea is the most consistent \u2013 most inspired of the missionary family\/\/ they are inspired by what J is doing \u2013 and most hospitable to Mrs. Glenn (MJ) [Marceline Jones]\/\/ they understand about JJ’s approach to the needs of the people. and they agree<\/p>\n

\u2013 some look for panaceas\/\/ they don’t know where Pete stands\u2013 some folks are very strict about their sect<\/p>\n

\u2013 having some problems sometime back\u2026 Hamilton Green (medical officer) \u2013 wanted certain things (think requirments)\u2026 from the medical facilities on the project\u2026 Ann consulted\u2026 J held the line and it was later approved giving our services freely \u2013 fully established\u2026 Guy. wanted to be independent from IMA\u2013<\/p>\n

\u2013 tell Pete when you are away a yr. \u2013 you don’t see anything thru rose colored glasses\/\/ need to have heavy committment to own humanitarian beliefs\u2026 the project has meant the difference to the children and seniors\/\/ a whole new dimension\/\/ spacious beautiful place\u2026 even since Pete was there\u2026<\/p>\n

\u2013 if J could do it with US. and Pete is quick to point out that he cannot resolve\u2013 some 1000+ people who had nothing before. J has a duty\u2026 Burnham is doing more to implement a kind of free program than even PPP suggest is wise now\u2026<\/p>\n

\u2013 Burnham is mindful of Africa more than PPP\u2026 so you can’t put people in categories\u2026<\/p>\n

\u2013 there is no question that J believes in the ideals of his church\u2013 some times some of the members don’t have their practise caught up with their theory.<\/p>\n

\u2013 J is always open with Pete\u2026\u2013 he wanted him to know about the Tass people who were there\u2026 the guy that came\u2013 even tho he wrote the nice things he did\u2026 he said he was afraid of thing \u2013 the water, bugs, frongs [frogs], etc. insecure\u2026 about his wife\u2026 those she have interest in J and J didn’t show not one bit\u2013 but the man did not want his wife to be alone with JJ for 1 min.\/\/ and she had nails and makeup\u2013 they were so much different than people expected\u2026 whereas the people from North Korea who came through were all quite different\u2013 they were mindful of frugality. The Russian people were wasteful of food\u2013 he would order some food and then not eat the whole thing\u2013 our cooks thought something was wrong with her cooking\u2026 they drank and smoked\u2026 they said they had not reached the place that J was at. they had not faced up to the perils of living\u2026 they were not prepared for that anymore then people in US would be\u2026 without Russia’s obvious kind position to Colleen\u2013 our people would have had a hard time with this\u2013 it was confusing\u2026<\/p>\n

\u2013 once you take a denominational character \u2013 that is it.<\/p>\n

\u2013 have visitors every day\u2026<\/p>\n

\u2013 J visited Cuba and that church conference\u2026<\/p>\n

[note in margin: \u201cCuba\u201d] \u2013 tell Pete\u2013 that may have been disillusioning to some\u2026 they were supposed to be going on a tour to some church edifice or something\u2026 and J saw a senior in need\u2013 so stopped to help them\u2026 and they got kind of upset that he would upset their scheduling even tho it was not an official appt. or anything\u2026 JJ stayed back to help\u2026 and they proceeded\/\/ showed insensitively [insensitivity]\/\/ they also got into one of the main officials office and they had people serving them elegantly\/\/ in the parking lot were many new sports cars\/ etc.\/\/ didn’t think much at the time\u2013 but it all kind of adds up.<\/p>\n

[note in margin: \u201cDebbie\u201d] \u2013 utter candor that was part of the rational [rationale] Olga was making toward the last\u2026 she had met a person\/\/ dr. (?)\u2013 from Cuba \u2013 he was married. she didn’t like his indiscretion, chavinist manner. she saw another one\u2013 they all seemed to show an inclination to her\u2026 she got disgusted\u2026 telling Terri Carter there was no one decnet but JJ \u2013 that is not excuse. by no means\u2026 but she said no matter how beautiful things J had built \u2013 that he thought his goodness was killing him and when he was finished there would be nothing, because no one else would take the pain\u2026 now she is doing that to our dr\u2026 she does not know the standing of our medical clinic now\u2013 she is trying to tell people it is not licensed\u2026 when we save 2 or 3 babies a week. she is aiming right at innocent people’s lives\u2026<\/p>\n

\u2013 JJ says he can understand the disillusionment\u2026 if only 5 instead of 1500 people made them\u2013 he would be doing the same\u2026 building strong leadership for the future\u2026 getting J more out of the center of things.<\/p>\n

\u2013 J is convinced of the ideals of the church to take the denominational position\u2026 what ever Pete thinks is good for people left in U.S.<\/p>\n

\u2013 J has a conflict because he would like to see the appreciable difference to the good people in U.S. when the press gets done.<\/p>\n

\u2013 the denominational position he takes could make a difference to all of PT\/\/ know how U.S. feels about Africa\/\/ imagine how the U.S. would feel about Guyana\u2013 practically in their backyard<\/p>\n

\u2013 most difficult think [thing] for J\u2013 he had a loss\u2026 but saw things like the fact that she had always gone comfortable long white wool socks and the[y] felt that they could not go\u2013 they should be kept because somebody somewhere might need them\u2013 the only time he had pain for himself\u2026 he thought of what the lady had done and given and found himself left with responsibilities for preparations for her funeral himself\u2026 he had asked to get someone to prepare her \u2013 but it wasn’t done\u2026 J had to do it himself\u2026 and buried her\u2026 just for that brief moment\u2013 J thought of what if he had not taken on so many people\u2026 not been so straight forward and honest about how he felt, the universe\/\/ bible teachings in particular\u2013 people never could have progressed without that awareness\u2013 had to be straightforward\u2026 it occurred to him not for himself\u2013 but for those who loved\u2013 it could have been different\u2013 this was a very difficult time for him.<\/p>\n

\u2013 people like Angela [Davis] \u2013 she was the first one he helped\u2026 and after\u2013 just a few days after\u2013 was when he got hit the first time\u2026 it went from there when it came to standing up for anything\u2013 he was always called. his aid was always asked\u2026 PT would make up the whole crown\u2026 even then he saw a lot of sectarianism.<\/p>\n

\u2013 and then some of his best friends like Pete\u2026 with no particular church\u2026 and [Mervyn] Dymally\u2013 who hardly understood the theology at all\u2013 but understood the black problem\u2026 and people like Yvonne [Golden]\u2013 it was always one way with her\u2026 the issue of signing the letter the last time\u2026<\/p>\n

\u2013 then there are those like Harvey Milk\u2026 who puts his neck out consistently \u2013\u2026 and couldn’t even get a letter from people like Angela\u2026 and Willie Brown was there\u2026 and Enola [Maxwell]\u2026 and then people like Moores [John and Barbara Moore]. who were horrified at the word even\u2026 and healings\u2026 but they came and spent those days\u2026 and said that even if it were all true what was in Sally\u2019s\u2013 it would have been more than justified to bring people to this\u2026<\/p>\n

\u2013 Whatever position J takes initially will make a vast difference. Needs to see J’s inner conflict\u2026 sees himself as part of total world needs.<\/p>\n

\u2013 if he is going to speak for Will\u2026 Pete needs to know him\u2026<\/p>\n

\u2013 doesn’t think anyone will even know how good Will is\u2026 have to be there to relate to it\u2026 doesn’t matter to Will\/\/<\/p>\n

\u2013 Olga reserve that special below\u2026 Will knew that people related to being around him by the fact that they needed him. and that after his usefulness to them ran out\u2026 they would discard him\u2026 that’s ok.<\/p>\n

\u2013 but it is awesome that people could be so close to decency and not emulate it\u2026 but emulate just the reverse. all he asked from that point on this just to do right and not only from that point on\u2026 he<\/p>\n

\u2013 J never counted after that on anyone understanding or seeing or emulating\u2026 [he] just does what’s right\u2013 it’s a much finer commitment. you lose all sense of historical perspective\u2026 of history being affected.<\/p>\n

\u2013 one thing you know for sure\u2026 Olga was 1 person he never let down\u2026 except not to respond to her advances\u2026 he was a father figure to her\u2013 just symbolic\u2026<\/p>\n
