Leo Ryan on November 18, and whose wife Patty was the only Temple member slain during the attack at the airstrip, died November 1, 2022. An obituary is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.stabroeknews.com\/2023\/09\/02\/sports\/giant-among-men-skip-roberts-dies-in-the-us\/\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Ron Cabral<\/strong>, who \u2013 together with his co-author Judy Bebelaar, wrote <em>And Then They Were Gon<\/em><em>e: Teenagers of Peoples Temple from High School to Jonestown<\/em> \u2013 died on February 5, 2023. A remembrance by Judy Bebelaar is <a href=\"https:\/\/jonestown.sdsu.edu\/?page_id=124298\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dianne Feinstein<\/strong>, who became mayor of San Francisco after the assassination of George Moscone \u2013 an event ten days after the deaths in Jonestown \u2013 and who was instrumental in working with Jonestown survivors both to protect them from harm and to re-integrate them into American society, <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/dianne-feinstein-dead-c831f3228ac44faa9653234570bb8ce9\">died<\/a> on September 28, 2023. A remembrance by Jean Brown Clancey is <a href=\"https:\/\/jonestown.sdsu.edu\/?page_id=124488\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>James Reston Jr<\/strong>, the author of the 1981 book <em>Our Father Who Art in Hell<\/em> \u2013 which in turn became the basis for for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2016\/10\/18\/497967228\/father-cares-the-last-of-jonestown\">\u201cFather Cares: The Last of Jonestown\u201d<\/a>, the 1981 NPR documentary on Jonestown \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/vineyardgazette.com\/news\/2023\/07\/20\/prolific-author-and-former-gazette-co-owner-james-reston-jr-dies\">died<\/a> on July 19, 2023.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Deaths noted from previous years<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Eugene Cordell<\/strong>, the relative of more than a dozen people who died in Jonestown,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.findagrave.com\/memorial\/217001396\/eugene-richard-cordell\">died<\/a>\u00a0October 15, 2020 at age 91. He and his wife June, who died 10 years earlier, had been lifelong residents of Indianapolis.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Shirelle Zunita Evans (Jackson)<\/strong>, who left Jonestown as part of <a href=\"https:\/\/jonestown.sdsu.edu\/?page_id=35411\">the \u201cpicnic\u201d group<\/a> in the company of her parents, two sisters and four others, died on November 28, 2010 in Modesto, California. She was 36.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Aubrey Bishop<\/strong>, the Guyanese judge assigned to the custody case involving John Victor Stoen,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kaieteurnewsonline.com\/2013\/02\/07\/former-chancellor-aubrey-bishop-dies-at-81\/\">died<\/a>\u00a0on February 6, 2013.<\/p>\n<p><b>Vibert Mingo<\/b>, Guyana Minister of Home Affairs and critic of Peoples Temple, died on July 4, 1991 (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.stabroeknews.com\/2017\/07\/04\/memoriams\/claude-vibert-mingo\/\"><i>Stabroek News<\/i><\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lowell Streiker<\/strong>, who worked with Al and Jeannie Mills at the Human Freedom Center in Berkeley in the months before and after the deaths in Jonestown, and who wrote about his experiences in 1988, died in August 2022.
