In addition to the physical preparations of stockpiling enough potassium cyanide (and <a href=\"http:\/\/jonestown.sdsu.edu\/?page_id=13207\">proposing<\/a> to make certain that it would work by testing it on a pig), the <a href=\"http:\/\/jonestown.sdsu.edu\/?page_id=13125\">collections of statements<\/a> of loyalty and commitment from Jonestown residents, and periodic suicide drills, the leadership wrote of the community\u2019s threat of self-destruction&nbsp; on several occasions. Some of these latter statements were public \u2013 such as <a href=\"http:\/\/jonestown.sdsu.edu\/?page_id=13179\">Pam Bradshaw Moton\u2019s open letter<\/a> of March 1978 \u2013 and some were internal administrative documents, including <a href=\"http:\/\/jonestown.sdsu.edu\/?page_id=13115\">Carolyn Layton\u2019s discussion<\/a> of options from early fall 1978.<\/p>\n<p>One such document recovered following the deaths was a two-page statement to be broadcast \u201cin case of a final white night.\u201d There is neither a date nor a name on the document, but there are a few indications that it was written late in Jonestown\u2019s history: Paul\u2019s quote from I Corinthians of people \u201cborn out of due season\u201d appears only one other place, and that is during Jim Jones\u2019 final address to the world on <a href=\"http:\/\/jonestown.sdsu.edu\/?page_id=29079#paul\">the Death Tape<\/a>; its tone is one of resignation; and much is written in the past tense.
