{"id":13684,"date":"2013-02-17T21:48:44","date_gmt":"2013-02-17T21:48:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/alternativejonestown.com\/?page_id=13684"},"modified":"2024-04-26T18:28:09","modified_gmt":"2024-04-27T01:28:09","slug":"realestate","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/jonestown.sdsu.edu\/?page_id=13684","title":{"rendered":"Real Estate Brochure for Peoples Temple Property"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Following the deaths in Jonestown, lawyers for Peoples Temple filed a <a href=\"http:\/\/jonestown.sdsu.edu\/?page_id=13665\">Petition for Dissolution<\/a>. In granting the petition, Superior Court Judge Ira Brown appointed Robert Fabian to identify, evaluate, and liquidate all Temple assets in order to settle the mounting financial claims against the church.<\/p>\n<p>One asset was the facility that Peoples Temple constructed in Redwood Valley a few years after its arrival in the Northern California community in 1965. The sale of the Temple complex \u2013 including the church building and three residential properties \u2013 was handled through Crescent Realty of San Francisco.<\/p>\n<p>An undated <a href=\"http:\/\/jonestown.sdsu.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/07-16-PTRealEstBrochure.pdf\">real estate brochure<\/a> describes the complex as a \u201ccommunity center.\u201d The church building itself is a \u201cmulti-purpose structure of approximately 6800 sq. ft. \u2026 with a large indoor swimming pool, a kitchen, an office and two bathrooms with showers, surrounded by a large parking area.\u201d\u00a0 While \u201cBuilding No. 1\u201d \u2013 as it is listed elsewhere in the brochure\u00a0 \u2013 was exempted from taxes, nowhere does the document mention Peoples Temple by name or direct reference, and the picture of the church building on the outside of the brochure partially obscures the cross.
