And I shall close. I don’t– Last night we just healed the sick, and we healed a plenty. All up and down these aisles.

Scattered voices in Congregation: Yeah!

Jones: The blindness– And that’s the most beautiful thing. There were so many blind healed in our last South meeting, it was– I– I– I– I– just– my heart thrills. Couldn’t see. Dark. Some could only see a shade of light, and they could define pencils and describe in detail from the back of the auditorium. Sister in the Sacramento meeting could describe to the back of the auditorium. She told the numbers of the fingers that I had and the sequence, and I’d change them all around and she’d keep right up with it. Been blind for twelve long years. I mean she couldn’t see anything.

Scattered voices in Congregation: That’s right.

Jones: Oh, whatsoever things I do are true, and they’re beautiful and honest and lovely and of good report. And they’re pure. (Claps once. Calls out) Why don’t you see God? Why don’t you see God?

Congregation: Scattered applause.

Jones: Say, you’re not supposed to s– speak of your own value. I’m not. I’m speaking of God’s value.

Scattered voices in Congregation: That’s right!

Jones: Paul said uh, if others will boast of their apostleship though, he said, I will boast more than you all. He said I’m going to straighten out the bunch of these people that are sick and uh, ridiculously following false apostles. I– He said I am the chiefest of apostles. Well, I’m going to tell you that you’ve never run into a live wire in your life like I am. Never.

Congregation: Cheers and applause

Jones: And my sermonizing would– would disturb you some, because the– (Pause) the nature of my spirit is much more quiet in ordinary terms. People gather around my animal shelter and children’s work, and they say, you’re– you’re such a quiet person. That’s the office that’s speaking now. The office of authority. One must have authority over mortality. Or mortality will eat us up like a terrible swamp. I have to deal with it with authority. I’ve got to speak and cry loud and spare not. But I’m really a gentle, very meek, mild mannered person. If you follow me in my love of animals, you saw the bird that had bitten the woman and she couldn’t handle it and she gave it to me last night and how it was loving at my ear and just kissing with its big beak, and it took her finger off, practically. Why does it love? Because it knows love. An animal knows love. I’ve never been bitten in my life. I’ve picked up rattlesnakes, and they’ve not harmed me. I’ve caused them to leave a house by just loving them. As the older people can tell you, I can pick up the flies– I don’t swat them. I pick them up. The older people in my senior citizen home can raise your hand and say that, or any of the people around my church have seen that. I picked them up, and they’ll be beating up against the wall, and I put out my hand and they’ll let– rest on them and take– they’ll take their flight with me. And uh, you can walk and the breeze will be coming. You know what a breeze does to a fly? They won’t stay put. But on my hand, I can take them right in the front of a fan or a breeze, and right outside they’ll go.
So please, don’t be deterred by what you’ve seen in just the sermonizing side. I am indeed a live wire, and there’re many facets to my personality. If you want a friend, as my sister sings, I’ll be a friend to the friendless. If you want a home, you’ve got a home. Anybody here that will try at all has got a home. You’ve got a home always. ‘Cause I’ve [I’ll] never see one of you homeless. The testimonies ought to be in the magazine, little papers like that, so they can tell you. Like the woman that was here, that was older, and her church wouldn’t even stand by her. Big church here in this Fillmore section. She got in trouble because she needed aspirin, ‘cause her Medicare was cut back, and she was in horrible pain. We lined the store up here with people until they let her go free. They were going to put her in jail. Woman was put out in the middle of the night. She’s in one of our homes now. Her preacher, when she called him, he said, trust God. That’s what you ought to say when he asks for the next offering for a nice organ or a nice Cadillac or a nice Rolls Royce. You ought to say, trust God.

Congregation: Cheers and applause

Jones: And I said, we’ve taken in two children, not to count the older children. Brown and black, young men and women. First place they have to go, if they’re homeless, is to CYA [California Youth Authority]. We’re taking them in, we’ve not turned away one. We took in a youngster this week. If he hadn’t’ve been taken in by us – he had done no (Unintelligible word), violated no law, but they said there’s no other place for him to go but to prison. In our time. I hun– I feed the hungry. I clothe the naked. Upstairs is a little puppy. We’ve got a little cat in here that’s been– a mother rejected it, because she had too many, and we’re nursing it because of the spirit that’s in me. A little puppy up there. If someone wants it that can love it and nurture it. I place these animals in every meeting. I’ve got nine some dogs or something like that. And thirty some cats and all kinds of roosters. Old geese, old goats, and nothing’s ever been killed. In all this holy mountain in Redwood Valley, nothing has been killed, because he said in the last days, nothing would be destroyed in all of his holy mountain. And he said to kill an ox would be like killing a man. And I believe that you’ve got to create a sensitivity to life if you want the hundredfold ministry.
If you say well, I– I’m not going to live like that, fine. Then you live the way you please. Gorge yourself. Say I’ve gotta have meat. Keep on gorging yourself. Actually, the best way you could have long life – I’ve been saying it for years – is to starve yourself. Now the scientists came out this past week, and they confirmed another thing that I’d said, that people who starve themselves would live a third life longer. They’d live a third and much again as they ordinarily do if they lived on a starvation diet all their time, but you’ve got to fill yourself full till you’re so fat that you’re going to have strokes, occlusions. It’s amazing that I’ve kept you from dying. ‘Cause you eat like hogs.

Congregation: Scattered response, then applause.

Jones: You eat slop. You eat slop that a pig would turn his nose up at. Gorge yourself on all these things, and I’ve got diets here through my nurses, available to you, the medical people that’ve worked here voluntarily. We’ve offered them to you, just as the District Attorneys who are in our church [including Tim Stoen] and work free, give you legal services, free.

Woman: That’s right.

Jones: We uh– we give– the counseling on their off time. Spend their weekends and their nights, so our nurses have a– And you keep eating like pigs. You’ve got to get that weight down, because you’re not just working yourself to death. You’re working yourself to be like that woman, paralyzed till she couldn’t move. And if you don’t keep my sayings, you can’t expect me to bring you out of the mess when you won’t listen to me. (Voice rises) I have the cares of the world on me. I once was a man in the 200’s until I combusted into the Godship degree. Mother [Marceline] LeTourneau can tell you when I was over 200. Staff can tell you when I was 210, 218 pounds. But when I combusted into the Godship degree, I had to do away with that flesh. That’s mortality’s version. I have extremiated. After three days, you won’t feel it, if you go on a fast with a multiple vitamin and flush yourself with the procedure I’ve already recommended. It’s on free writing for you if you’ll just ask. I’m here to bring you to good health. But you cannot be to good health– Do you know the system has provided the right kind of foods to get the poor in a state of mind that they will not be able to think? They see that you get the worst kind of foods in these ghetto markets. They see that you get the week-old foods. They see that you get the worst kind of uh, meats with the preservatives in– in the imbalance. I know this because I’ve got food store managers in my church. They tell about the stuff that’s done to the poor. It would cause the hair to rise on the back of your neck.

Archie Ijames: That’s right.

Jones: (Ministerial cadence) They want to keep you in physical lax and chemical imbalance, so you will not be able to hear the truth and come out of your poverty and your misery and your– the terrible oppression. I am here, the spirit of Christ, to set you free, to deliver you from your captivity, to set you that are bound at freedom and at liberty.

Congregation: Applause.

Jones: (Voice calms) You are what you eat, both mentally and spiritually. And I would that you would follow this diet and its flushings and its emetics – natural emetics – no medicines. The massages and bath, alternating temperatures, would look enough to find the herbs. Said in the scripture, ancient scripture, the herbs of the leaves of the healing of the nation. I have found them. I’ve found these key notes to uh, the salvation of health. The ones that have used them, like John– James Pugh, was wasting away of cancer, who owns a rest home now, one of the church homes and is our chief letter writer. Works all night and all day. Two jobs. He was wasting away six, seven years ago with cancer. But I found the key! I’ve found some preventatives that, if you use, at least as our correlation, no one that has used those things have ever developed cancer. But you are so obsessed to fill yourself (claps lightly) with the wares of the capitalist trade to make the rich richer, and keep your belly so much out that you can’t see your feet.

Scattered voices in Congregation: All right!

Congregation: Scattered applause

Jones: (Moderates slightly) I have to raise the dead here, so often. One woman I raised just a few days ago, she was three hundred and fifty, if she was a pound. Nobody but God could raise that woman up. (Pause) She said, I thank– I know you’re God– you raised me up. Said I’ve had five heart attacks this week. I said, you better know I’m God enough to start dieting or you’re going to be dead again.

Scattered voices in Congregation: All right!

Congregation: Applause.

Jones: (Cries out) He that keeps these sayings shall not die. There’s a ministry of life constituting twenty witnesses a day. Few ever try it. Why don’t you try? Why don’t you sup of me? I’ll throw you over the leverage. Say well, I was so bored with faith. I’m gonna tell you, we’re on a thin edge of nothing. That’s where we are in spiritual consciousness. I walk into every assembly, needing here– (tape drags) And Sadie, bless her heart. I wouldna been able to endure it, (unintelligible) Sadie having Wednesday night, I think I’d have had to found myself out. I really would’ve. (unintelligible)– myself nothing in the situation, my images, but I was receiving images and complexions and complex thoughts that people (unintelligible). All sorts of– of thoughts. Barbs, even one man, throw the barb out to try to agitate something. Try to get something going. And I thought, if this isn’t something. Child’s play.

Male: Yes, it is.

Jones: Where senior elders walked. That really was. As I told my wife [Marceline Jones] this morning, this has been the fountain head, it’s been the closest thing I’ve ever seen to what we know. We are proximity in spirit, one and the same in spirit. There’s– There’s a same kind of hungering and yearning for truth. A world, free from want, poverty and all of the strife. I felt the beauty of this concern, the beauty of this crusade, to see a world where there’s not one hungry child.

(Pause) (Tape edit) (silence for several moments)

Jones: (unintelligible) That’s how far off we are to where we ought to be here. (Pause) And I said, if God doesn’t want a miracle – Emily [Leonard], Sadie, Esther [Mueller], Stephen [Addison] – God doesn’t want a miracle. It’ll take nothing but a miracle in divine proportions. That’s all. And I’m going to keep affirming. I’m determined that I shall not be the instrument of anything but accord and unity. Because I felt to even take issue, and then I thought no, this won’t– this will only give credence to this suggestion, so I got my mind off of it. And I went on, on what I had to say, whatever value it was. I don’t find words too forthcoming there. Because naturally, God brings out of you where there is more expectation. If it’s expectation for what you’ve got to say, that’s where God’s gonna use you. And in that group – there’s what of you, five of you, Clara [Phillips], you – four or five of you? There’s not a great deal of expectation there for anything I have to say. And some people have a very clouded image of me, and so it doesn’t encourage bringing forth the creative thought. It– It’s really walls, impenetrable walls I face when it comes to giving of what I have in the spiritual man in that assembly.

Male: (unintelligible)

Jones: That’s kind of you. I don’t even recall what I said, but– but anyway, I know it was very difficult. But I thought Sadie has appealed to the Christ, and the Christ I’m going to give her, not confusion. She didn’t recognize mortal mind. She was deferring to me and had the faith that I’d give something meaningful and not disharmonious. So I said I cannot disappoint that so that’s why I got off the Republican which unsettled me terribly., that a man could be so blind as that. And I told him, I told him when I went with him, I said I don’t know what you meant by this Republican business. I can’t understand how any spiritual man take much credence– must satisfaction out of a sweep of Republican victory that’s come across this co– this state.

Male: (unintelligible)

Jones: Now, if we close our minds out– And of course, that may be uh– that may be uh– touching on tender toes. (Pause) But let’s face it, it was the Republican, Mr. [Ronald] Reagan, that said he was going to make Vietnam into a parking lot. That’s what he’d like to see made of Vietnam. A parking lot. Said we’d run a strip right down through Vietnam. That’s what we’d do. Said that’s what I’d do. That’s what we ought to do is bomb China. That’s the kind of statements that’s been made by this– this great uh, tidal wave of victory that’s surrounding Reagan. This is the kind of sympathies that go out to this man. Men like Eric Sevareid says that there’s not been uh, a sane thought given to peace in this whole campaign. It’s a reaction, a fear. A reaction to frustration. A reaction that actually wants to get the job done. Get over there and whip them a little harder. Hit ‘em a little harder, until you get the job done. It’s not been a reaction of peace sentiment. Not consistent with the teachings of Christ, or the gentle one. But we can do it. We can turn the tide if we’re dedicated enough. It only takes two (unintelligible word) if we gather together in the fundamental, to move against all these onslaughts. But the fact is we’re not united. Here are two of the most idealistic groups that are not united. There’s no need to kid ourselves. We cannot change things by false illusion. We’ll have to recognize it. We’re not united. We need board meetings after board meeting to get this thing rolling. We need to talk Sunday after Sunday after Sunday till we plowed through all the uh– (unintelligible word)–

(tape silence)

Jones: –languishing and procrastination, hoping that somehow we’ll stay out of trouble, that we’ll avoid some sort of recognition or that we won’t have any more trials. What kind of people are we that don’t want trials? I understand the fear that the Church of the Golden Rule’s had, they’ve had a lot of it, but I still say, once you become afraid of persecutions, you’re no long– longer worthy to carry the banner of Christ.

Male: That’s all right. Place of quiet confidence, where they needed a rest, provided from the foundation of the world, for those that prefer to enter into it. Infinite mind, hallow this atmosphere, and this can be done only through our obedience to the perfect mind of love. As we relax our own conscious mentalities for a moment, we pray that it will no longer be the eye of mortal thought that stands in cognizance here, but it will be the “I am” of all ages, the wellspring of eternality, the Christ thought that flows deep within. Infinite mind, have thy way. Harness all of these thoughts, the cross section and multitudeness thought of mortal man that has endlessly diverted us from the course of perfection. They strain all these suggestions and bring us into the optimum, our faith. The personality or the mask, person of the mask is lost, the identity of man is lost in the fullness and consciousness of all sufficiency which is God, our love. May every frustrated thought be subdued into the allness of thy presence, for there is no reality outside of love. There’s no reality outside of goodwill and all the good things that cometh down from above, and so we relax in our thought to this divine river, for there is a river. There the streams thereof are the ways of peace and the ways of life. May that eternal consciousness be recognized here this morning.

(organ plays)

Jones: Take three deep breaths of this divine life that is all about us, as far as you can extend those lungs, extend them into the universality of God’s love. And now I can well understand why. For it is this that births the true soul, the true spirit of man. We have to have the perfecting influences of doubts and all these oppositions, so-called, to manifest our true identity. And so I– I’m grateful for God’s challenge in this. I only pray and affirm that I shall be able to mature in this place that he has called me so that I can be able to reach out to mankind and extend this hope that has been afforded by divine revelation. For indeed, we are blessed, when you stop to consider the principle of which has been manifested in our midst. When the word was made flesh. I have come with all the inclement conditions of faith, to make that reality a fact, not only for a handful of wondering minds here, whose minds’ imitations and love and devotion are spread in a sundry sorts of way. But I have come with a hope and aspiration that a dispensation shall be uttered to him where all men shall know God, from the least to the greatest, and the knowledge of this revelation shall cover the earth as the water cover this sea. Now it is with trepidation that man faces unbelief. And I sometimes wonder what more can we see to know the infallible workings of God? What more does this people need to get their minds attending on the things that are happening inside of this quarter for the few minutes that we come, rather than the things of mortality outside. Even some of you do me the uh, embarrassing ridicule of looking out the window when I am attempting to manifest Christ thought. (Pause) It’s not just another people. You are a chosen people, called from thousands of miles in different places and directions to come to one place for perfectibility, that you might put on the Christ mind, that mortality might be swallowed up by immortality, that the corruptible might put on the incorruptible. You have come to such a place as this, and some of you do not even know where you are or what you are doing, and certainly you will be always what you think. For as a man thinketh in his heart, so is he. If you are sitting in this room and do not know why you’re sitting in this room, you shall ever wander in the shades of unbelief, doubt, and false opinion. For you can never find reality and first– until first you come as the solid Gibraltar of faith, not wavering, as James said, for he that wavers is like the sea, it’s never tossed to and fro with the wind. For if you are to receive anything of God good or a law of compensation, you must come without wavering or halting in your opinion to receive the benefits of the over soul. (Pause)

I think of just a few weeks ago, how blessed we are that a mother can here and stand up and tell us as Opal [Freestone] did today, she thanked God for our love, because a divine revelation came about her child and spoke that her child was called to a purpose beyond. And she found identification in this. But yet on the contrary part, her– her helpmate [Marion “Whitey” Freestone], who is really no spiritual helpmate at all, at this stage of his unfoldment, can a (Unintelligible word) in this assembly room, but barely a few weeks ago, and heard the prophecy of God speak with infallible certainty that the next time we are endangered by vehicles, or the next time we have a car accident, period – I think was the absolute of it – the next time we have a car accident, it will be fatal, and that no ambulance will be needed for the people that are involved in the fatality of it or for the person involved in the fatality of it. The voice of the Logos is not in their midst, the prophet’s hands have been tied, the so-called prophets lie, and the people would have it so, from institutional Rome throughout institutional Protestantism and all the realms of Judaism. And the voice of the prophet is gone. The voice of the Logos is silent in the land, and so the councils of bishops of both churches and all movements uh, and sects of the world are attempting to get together to (unintelligible word) a unified word of God because now the two Bibles do not agree. The Catholic Bible has twelve some books in addition to the Protestant Bible, which certain ungodly influences cut out of the Protestant Bible. You say ungodly influences, yes, because the Catholic Church, we will have to concede, was the original church. And I have to start where I am, and wrestle with all the thoughts and suggestions and ego-fulfilling pressures that are in this room. And there are many and asunder. And yet, as I started to say about one of our members, he stands out this morning with some consternation and feels a bit uh, sorry for himself and a bit saddened, because he doesn’t understand the full weight and impact of this revelation or his revelator. A few days ago, Mr. Freestone, Whitey Freestone said to me, I am– he’d been given some statement that he was to perhaps receive a hundred thousand dollars from this accident. And he said I will uh, give all of it to you, after I have expended my few bills and cleared the uh– the slate, I will give it all to you. Of course, you can imagine I didn’t accept it. I don’t accept any kind of promises like that. I told him to get those– his mind off of that, and to maintain his thought about getting well and returning to a place of harmonization. But this is the privilege you have, in your midst, that most men, when they’re offered a hundred thousand dollars, would do anything in the world to placate the representative of that offer and to deal with them softly. But last Sunday, I rebuked him because he needed a rebuke. And it went straight to his heart. Did it not, Opal [Freestone]? It went straight to his heart, and it shall ever stay in his heart, because I will do nothing to apologize or to compromise the word of truth. You do not realize what you are dealing with. I am here to make God visible and I shall– (voice drops) and I shall not be deterred in that.

Scattered voices in Congregation: Amen.

Jones: For he shall come forth with mighty power to deliver. And if you shall enter into this marvelous revelation, we shall go forth and do exploit for the Almighty. If you do not, and continue to take it for granted and have dual mind, for a double-minded man is unstable in all of his ways, then this covenant shall be removed from your midst and shall go forth to a people who have not heard. And they shall hear. For some shall come forth in this day and this dispensation, for God shall have his people. For this covenant hath worked too many centuries past even, in minor degree, for it to be stopped here, at the end, the consummation of the age. (Pause) Look back for a moment in retrospect and see from whence God hath brought it. Consider, if you will, for just a moment what he has done for us, when we have affirmed this conscious recognition of God’s presence. This is all we’re here to do, this is all we’re here to declare. The actuality of God’s personal presence which is in our midst mighty to deliver to the uttermost. The whole of our revelation could be summed in those few words, that we are here to make manifest a spirit of the conscious presence of God, which is the source of all supply and the satisfactor– satisfier of every good desire.

(Voice drops) That’s all of it in a nutshell. And that’s what I’m here to do. To cause mortal man to die and the Christ to live. First he’s got to die in me, before he can ever live in you. So I can never reproduce anything in you that’s not in myself. And certainly we wonder why we are here, we’re not taking the world. It’s because we haven’t even begun to do the slightest bit of building our feelings, and Mr. Freestone’s just one of the few misters and missuses in this room that has feelings on their shoulder. We’re living in a low realm of spiritual unfoldment. We know it. We’re not kidding anyone. We know the reservations that take place. Last night in our party, we have a– a– a little game which is an innocuous game, a game of some sort of black magic, and I sit there uh, trying to in– unfold in the spirit of– of merriment and pleasure, al– although in these times of cataclysmic forces that’re all around us, I find it a bit difficult to find any kind of recreational expression. But I was endeavoring to be a part and party to what was going on, and uh, someone was trying to learn some signal or key code or something about color that represented, I guess what uh, whatever this situation was. I wasn’t even following it in my mind. My mind was soon taken away from it, because a couple of people was beginning to say in their thoughts, well, he hasn’t got it yet, or something to that effect. Why doesn’t he know what the key is? And I thought, of all the places to test divine mind in a simple game. I have no time for child’s play. Nor do the messengers of truth have any time for child’s play. So I removed myself from the setting, because God did not give this gift to be toyed with. I rebuked you on one time for a fortune-telling game, which all of you seemed to enjoy with great uh– uh, (unintelligible). And I rebuked you again when we play in this kind of a game, for this kind of a truth is not to be played with or to be toyed with. For it is the voice of God, and the voice of God that has healed you from your wants and your lacks and your limitations. It’s the voice of God that has caused Dorothy [Worley] to stand before you this morning, when just a few weeks ago, the voice of this discernment called her out which was sharper than any two-edged sword and told her that she had a particular problem right then in her throat so she couldn’t swallow, and a heart attack was avoided in a moment of a twinkling of an eye.

Male: Amen.

Jones: Isn’t that divine revelation, as the woman spoke of this morning that removed a man’s blinded eye and caused him to see. And a woman that God has seen in mortal minds, long before we ever arrived at the time, that she was healed of a growth (unintelligible) to Mrs. [Eva] Pugh, our treasurer, testifying to the deliverance that had been with her for four long years. And you sit here in play and in play. (Voice climbs) And sometimes your singing is only a means of passing the time away because you are afraid to testify to the fundamental which you know and have (unintelligible word). (Pause) (Voice drops) (unintelligible) quietly. (unintelligible). Singing is wonderful if it’s inspirational. If it comes from the depths of a soul that’s spontaneously made glad, it is beautiful indeed. But if it is an excuse for worship or for creative thinking, then it is certainly on a low realm vibration. You say, what are you (unintelligible word) talk about? Surely, you should know what to talk about. Mrs. uh, [Rosie] Ijames did a beautiful job of talking. She didn’t say anything about personality. She talked about spiritual things of quality and of depth. We’re not talking about personality praise or to re– review all of the healings that we’ve had which would take ten thousand years to review them if we took time, painstakingly, for each one. But certainly an attitude of spiritual unfoldment could be with us, but we come in here like we’re– we’re just uh, coming out of obligation. (Voice climbs) I’m here to tell you that tonight you will not be in this assembly, for there will be no assembly meeting here tonight. You will find your place of spiritual unfoldment at home, and you will stay at home until you learn to find the creative Christ. (Pause) (Voice drops) For we are not playing. I have been sent from a world that you know not of, evidently, in some– some e– in some instances. (Pause)

We can’t live from week to week in the (unintelligible) breaking relationship and hope to continue to file our spiritual life, because to whom much is given, much is required. Last week it was affirmed here that there would be no more talking of sickness and tiredness and disappointment and grief, and yet, last evening every time I’d ask somebody how they were, it was well– well– (short laugh) all right. Or uh, you know what I’m talking about. (Pause) Or do you? (Pause) People, I hear you talking. I heard some conversation about uh, how hard times you’ve had since you’ve been here, the month you’ve been here. And we’ve got newcomers coming. You oughtn’t be talking like that, and then the newcomer himself, he doesn’t know what he– uh, should be here or shouldn’t be here. And I– I should tell you, if you don’t know, you’ll never really find out, ‘cause it in– infinitely requires faith, but it’s bad for those who do come, and they’ve only been here for a few days, for somebody else standing off bemoaning all the trials they’ve had since they’ve been here. You have been blessed by the word of God.

Scattered voices in Congregation: Yes.

Jones: (Voice rises) You were called from nothing to something. You were called from obscurity to the day breaking of spiritual life. You were called from self-centered– all (unintelligible) of self desire rampant around you. You lived in a smug little world where you couldn’t move without everything being fixed in (unintelligible word) relationship and God poured out all your (unintelligible word) from you, and sent you 2,500 miles to find your true karmic man. (Voice drops) That’s what he did. Took your jobs, but he was good to you. Whereas I promised you, as being his voice, I said none of you would be in want. And you all found jobs, homes and an abundance of every good desire with now over 25,000 dollars in the bank to do something for our cooperative. But you do not understand what’s in your midst. For you come with no– no real enthusiasm, and let us say loud “Amens” for this.

Murmured voices in Congregation: Amen.

Jones: Let us be truthful, when we’re in the presence of God. Instead of appreciating a man who couldn’t be imbibed or intimidated by a hundred thousand dollars and still go on– goes on telling you as the tender shepherd where you need to improve, a man gets hurt. Hmm?

Scattered voice in Congregation: (murmurs)

Jones: And I would say, and I go on record, the only portion of the money I could ever take is– and the church, which I don’t handle any money, and no one could ever give me money personally, surely we know that by now.

Male: Right.

Jones: That the only part of the money I’d ever accept would be your half, because I wouldn’t take a dime of Whitey Freestone’s money even in the church. Do you understand what I’m talking about?

Scattered voices in Congregation: Yes.

Jones: You understand what I’m talking about, Opal? You sure bear witness for what goes on in the home, the confusion, the ranting, the divisibility. You understand what I’m talking about. We want no dirty money in this cause.

Male: That’s right.

Jones: But uh, what usually comes out of these kind of talks is disgust with my hard saying. He’s so hard. Well, I tell you, when the elements are on fire, and the systems of men are falling like the Tower of Babel, you’re going to be grateful for some hard sayings that made you prepared for the advent of a new age. (Calls out) Don’t think we’re going to sit there and– like some earthworm into this new age without real transformation. We’re going to have to repent of the other world. You’re going to have to lay it aside. You’re going to have to be renewed and transformed by the renewing of your mind. Not conformed to the image of m– of the world thought or the mortal thought, but completely transformed. In this assembly, there’s so little of it. (unintelligible word) this week – and it was not brought to my attention – this week, as in I’m going to get down home so you need to get your ear, listening. This week when one of our young women who’s having a real conflict within and a conflict without and fighting for her life and she made some little suggestion that uh, uh, that seems uh, threatening to our old status image of what we considered the man-and-wife relationship and the boyfriend and the girlfriend relationship. She make something like this and the whole church is evidently thrown into some consternation. Now those that are (unintelligible), though no one brought it to my ear. You’re thrown into consternation because someone suggests that we uh– we need to share. I won’t go into it, because I have enemies afoot. I think you’ll– those of you that know what I’m talking about by now. You do know what I’m talking about. (Pause) It evolves around uh, uh– Judy [Merriam or Meade]– where are you?

Judy: (unintelligible)

Jones: Not anything you bore witness to me, but something I told you about. Is that not correct?

Judy: (unintelligible)

Jones: All right. But uh, we don’t– we don’t seem to understand that if we were where we ought to, we’d share everything we had. Oh, you say, my God. (unintelligible) where I stand now. For we cannot share in sex and we cannot uh, uh, emasculate uh, ourselves to the contempt of man, but if we were where we ought to be, the love of God would be free of distain to all and to every w– person in here. There would be tender care, love and devotion for every individual here.

Woman: Right.

Jones: (Calls out, pounds podium) When one was not sharing, we would be touched with a fuse of their infirmities and would bear it and would be happy to share whatever we had and possessed (calms) to the good and the welfare of every other person. I’m saying a hard saying that’ll cause many of you to wonder whether you’ve come the right way, but now is the time to wonder. At least you’ll never say in Jim Jones and uh, what’s he was saying and fundamental thought was.

It would be nice if some of the husbands, when a young woman who was once uh– been married and uh, has had to give up marriage and has had to give up to some degree uh, the comforts and security of– of close proximity, even though it’s a delusive dream, that it’d be nice if some man in the church occasionally might escort her – at least a man and woman – escort her out uh, to a uh, uh, some sort of uh, recreation or food or to a show, etcetera. It’s a very good thing to do. Too bad that she has to think of it, and we don’t think of it, because we should be touched by this. You’ll never know the nightmare and the anxiety that people like she goes through. And some of you need to have a great deal of tenderness and compassion, (voice builds) because there’s a feeling of rejection that comes upon us when we lose a home, and we’ve lost our wife or we’ve lost our husband. Uh– In spite of the lie, (stumbles over words) the elusive dream, it’s still that suggestion that comes. (Calms) We’re a misfit, we’re misplaced, or we’re displaced. (Pause) (Voice rises) There used to be far more empathy in this room than there is. There’s too much off-handed uh, joking about the fundamental. There’s still not enough appreciation for the seriousness of integration. You people try to placate me to my face but down within, you have not understood the totality of what I mean. This is not anything to be joking with. You should be crying with all the anxiety of your hearts. There should be a burden, a love, an outgoing compas– compensation of saying and feeling for the cause of the Negro, and some of you only feel around (voice drops) the skin of your (unintelligible word) or the skin of your uh, your uh, whatever the heck it is. It’s not important. Your pigmentation. That’s all the place you feel it. It’s (unintelligible word) superficial relationship, to please Jim Jones. You make him all kinds of offers of devotion and loyalty inside the assembly room. You try to give him money. It will not satisfy. (Voice climbs) For I do not want your money, nor I will not receive your money and I do not want anything but your devotion, selfless devotion to the “I am” principle, which I represent and (Voice calms) I have represented accurately. (Pause) And you cannot deny it. For I have not given myself to selfish devotion. I’ve given myself to the love principle. I work just as you work, and probably a little bit more of it often. I’ve traveled these mountains when they are treacherous indeed. These roads are like, uh, paradise, celestial streams compared to the roads that go to Boonville, when, during the rains, the rocks are there at every curve, at every crossroads, there’re big boulders facing me. And some of you ought to listen to what I’m doing, instead of trying to kid me. And some of you are trying to kid me, and I mean that seriously, you’re trying to kid me. You’re trying to play a foxy game with me. (Short laugh) (Pause) You think that I think you’re loyal when I just sit and listen to you. (Pause) You’re not kidding me, you’re kidding God. I hear great overtures of loyalty. I hear great overtures of loyalty of Christ Church of the Golden Rule, what they’re going to do and this, that and the other. But it never gets done. Hmm? Fear grips the human heart, and we’re afraid. We’re afraid of our position. We’re afraid of our place. We’re afraid of being pushed out or forced out from the comforts of the material, and so we just refrain from supporting that which we really down in our hearts believe is of a divine nature. If you’ll keep with me, everybody, there’s something– there’s a sermon here for everybody this morning, if you’ll uh, just keep in tune with me. (Pause) And don’t come up and ask me if you’re– and I alluded to the Christ Church of the Golden Rule. Don’t come up and ask me if it is I. If it is you, you know it. And if it isn’t you, you won’t have any questions. Right?

Congregation: Right.

Jones: For everybody here is not indicted. Neither in the Christ Church of the Golden Rule or of People’s Church, but I am telling you a compounding of what I have felt by revelation as I often have the spirit of discernment. As you’ve seen, in every meeting, something of revelation will come out. Things that happen, things that will happen, things that will take place, things that have taken place, in every meeting you’ve seen the unfoldment of people as last week that I’d never met, nor heard tell of, or as sister Ward said, uh– Worley [Dorothy Worley was married to Ward Worley] said I’ve never even mentioned to my husband. Names that I couldn’t even remember in mortal mind, or they’d’ve gone from my memory. This happens every meeting. Surely you know that the divine mind doesn’t just operate in this public room. No, it doesn’t operate to call. It won’t operate for the machinations of some kind of a game on Saturday nights play time. But it does operate often and more frequently sometimes than we’d like to consider perhaps. (Pause) As long as fear constrains us, manifestation of the true, the ideal, the noble, will not take place. As long as there’s any other affection or devotion between our consciousness and the saving principle or the conveyor of the saving principle. Not only will– must we have our way clean between– or clear between God and our soul, but my own instrumentalities between here and God that are bringing us revelation. Now I think that will fall on ears, and understand there’s no ego in this. And God help you if you blaspheme, because I’m speaking truth this morning. From the depths of my being, I’m speaking truth.
There’s little horror– There’s little chance for real accord in this valley, and I am in trepidation that someplace God’s going to remove some of us, all of us, or a part of us, for there’s very little chance for accord in this valley of indecision. I’m speaking as a prophet, now. See, I’m giving suggestion to mortal mind. All right, it’s whatever you want to call it. You know– you who know, you who are better able to judge this gift than I who’ve had it for fifteen years. I suppose you would say I was giving ro– room for mortal suggestion when I admonished and loved and warned about various things that have come to pass here. No, I was just speaking of that which our spiritual realm was going to bring to pass because of a lack of fulfilling purpose and objectivity, (voice picks up speed and strength) that if you go along a death route, you’re going to bring death results. If you go along a limitation route, you’re going to bring limitation results. If you lived in fear, lacks, wants, limitations, insecurities, greed, allow the incestuous jealousies that face mortal thought, (calms) you’re bound to reproduce it at the end of the rainbow. (Pause)
I know some of you are unsettled, and I’ve struck hard on some of you this morning. But you need it. And I hate with my mortal mind to do it. Because I have fear when it comes to ever striking out at you people. I love you, but I must be true to the “I am.” I’ve got to clean up all the debris that kind of holds from week to week. I’ve got to open the channels and get everything out and be just as expressive and as operative as I want you to be, for I’ve come to manifest God. I have come on the wings of this morning to make God manifest, to dwell in your midst. And I know that I have not counted some sort of principle that cannot be recreated or maximized in our midst. Because he said, when it was spoken of Jesus, why are you the– called the son of God? He said, is it not written that ye are Gods and sons of the most high? And did he not declare that he said these things shall you do and greater, because I go to the Father because I have come. He says it’s expedient that I go away as it’s always often expedious that the instrument for the moment goes away. He says it’s expedient that I go away, for if I go not away, the comforter will not come. Whether he, the comforter – and I notice I want you to catch the reference, he, the comforter – when he comes, he will lead you into (stretches word) all truth. He will teach you all things. How be it when the spirit of the comforter has come? When he has come, whom the father will send in my name (unintelligible). He will lead you and guide you into all truths. (Pause) Or for comfort a man in me, the spirit of courage, and uh– and if you were to ever refer to me and I would say in– in this instance, if you’d every refer to me I would re– re– re– refer– not to refer to me as prophet or some other kind of ennobling priestly label. I have merely been your courageous friend, for I have come in that spirit, and it’s in that spirit that I stand this morning as a friend of you and a friend of God, and a courageous one by determination. I have (unintelligible word) to be a courageous friend, and that’s all the comforter is. That’s all the Holy Spirit is. And whoever instrumentality of that Holy Spirit will be that which speaks courageously the things that he sees.

Let me say the Holy Ghost with you. He said he will not speak of himself. He’ll not speak of his mortal desires. He’ll not speak of the things that will make him of man a pleaser and esteemed by the body politic of man, but he will speak those things which he heareth it, and for Paul, those things which are to come. This is what I’ve come to do. And I’m in that spirit, as any other prophet has ever been at any time or any place or any dispensation. But the fact is that when you are looking around for something and you come and you read books or you philosophize about great miracles and you’re looking forward to some manifestation someplace, there is no higher manifestation [than] what’s taking place in this little valley. This is an honored place here, while it’s lasting. For out of all of the kingdoms of this world, this valley has been called upon to bring a perfectibility and a perfection. And way after it’s gone but a short time, people will cry out for its return. For when the voice of a Logos leaves this valley, dissolution and dissipation will be evident on every hand.

(End of tape)

Tape originally posted January 2011

If you use this material, please credit The Jonestown Institute.
