McCoy: <\/b>(Sounds nervous) Uh, yeah, is Mr. uh, Joe Mazor in? (Pause) Uh, Carol McCoy. Yes. (Pause) Uh, well, I\u2019d really\u2019d<\/i> just talk to him, if possible. Okay. (Pause) (Whispered) Pen.<\/p>\n

Mazor: <\/b>Hello.<\/p>\n

McCoy: <\/b> Uh, Mr. Mazor?<\/p>\n

Mazor: <\/b>Yup.<\/p>\n

McCoy: <\/b> Uh, my name is Carol McCoy. Uh, I\u2019m calling from Los Angeles, and uh, I\u2019ve got a problem and I was just wondering if you could possibly help me with it. Um, I\u2019ve been a member of Peoples Temple, and my children, uh, have been sent to Guyana, uh, and I\u2019d like to get them back, and uh, I\u2019ve uh, I\u2019d like to know if there\u2019s any way that you could help me, or that you could uh, uh, possibly recommend somebody.<\/p>\n

Mazor: <\/b>(Unintelligible) child in Guyana.<\/p>\n

McCoy: <\/b> Uh, my mother. Uh, my mother had guardianship over them, and uh, she uh, she was taking care of them, and uh, (matter of fact tone) she sent them off.<\/p>\n

Mazor: <\/b>Are you married?<\/p>\n

McCoy: <\/b>Uh, no.<\/p>\n

Mazor: <\/b>(Pause) (Sighs) Well. (Pause) Yeah, there\u2019s a couple of things you can do to get them back. Did your mother go to Guyana too?<\/p>\n

McCoy: <\/b>Uh, no, she\u2019s still in San Francisco.<\/p>\n

Mazor: <\/b>She is?<\/p>\n

McCoy: <\/b>Yes.<\/p>\n

Mazor: <\/b>Uh, that\u2019s<\/i> interesting. Okay. What do you want me to do?<\/p>\n

McCoy: <\/b>Well, that\u2019s kinda what I wanted to know<\/i>, uh, what I wanted you to tell me<\/i>, was, you know, who I could, uh, you know, what I could do, or \u2014<\/p>\n

Mazor: <\/b>What you could do (unintelligible) to get your children back?<\/p>\n

McCoy: <\/b>Well, you have any suggestions on what\u2014 as to what? (Pause) I mean, I, you know, I, I, I\u2019ve been<\/i> uptight about this situation for a long time and I\u2019ve been in a pretty bad situation<\/i> and so, (Sighs) I just finally said, you know, the heck<\/i> with this, I\u2019ve got to do something, um, I\u2019ve tried to talk to my children on the radio, they wouldn\u2019t let me. Uh, I\u2019ve tried to get letters from them, they wouldn\u2019t let me. And um, uh, they let me, very recently, uh, you know, recently, I don\u2019t know, but about four weeks ago, uh, I talked to, uh, my little girl<\/i>, and uh, the oldest one\u2019s 13, and the youngest one\u2019s seven. She was seven yesterday. (Unintelligible word) (Pause)<\/p>\n

Mazor: <\/b>(Pause) (Unintelligible)<\/p>\n

McCoy: <\/b>Well, um, I know\u2014 I know about you from the articles and um, um, what uh, um, things I\u2019ve had with my mom and uh, stuff like that. (Pause) See, my mom<\/i> is a, a very active member, you know, and uh, I, I attended the church off and on, until about three weeks ago, and then I just \u2014 I just finally said the hell<\/i> with them. I\u2019m tired of it. I\u2019m tired of all this shit. I want, I want my kids<\/i>, I want \u2014 and I want to do what I<\/i> want to do. You know? Um, I want my kids back, and I\u2019m willing to try to do anything to get them back.<\/p>\n

Mazor: <\/b>Have you got any copies of any of the papers with you?<\/p>\n

McCoy: <\/b>Uh, I\u2019ve got uh\u2014<\/p>\n

Mazor: <\/b>Guardian (unintelligible)<\/p>\n

McCoy: <\/b>Uh, no I don\u2019t. My mom\u2019s got them all.<\/p>\n

Mazor: <\/b>(Unintelligible)<\/p>\n

McCoy: <\/b>See, I lived in\u2014 See, I\u2014 I<\/i> was living in L.A. for two years and uh, that\u2019s when I signed guardianship over to her, and uh, then um, um, I decided to try to make it up in San Francisco for a while, but my mom still insisted on me keeping the kids \u2014 or on her<\/i> keeping the kids. And um, so then um, so then um, I\u2014 when I came back down to L.A. for a while, that\u2019s when they shipped them over. This was about three months ago.<\/p>\n

Mazor: <\/b>Did you give permission for them to go over?<\/p>\n

McCoy: <\/b>No, I did not.<\/p>\n

Mazor: <\/b>Did you give them permission to go (unintelligible word) to Guyana?<\/p>\n

McCoy: <\/b>No.<\/p>\n

(Pause)<\/p>\n

Mazor: <\/b>Well, I think there are several<\/i> things we could do. I, I\u2019m not trying to be overly (sigh) more than optimistic or pessimistic<\/i> right now \u2014<\/p>\n

McCoy: <\/b>Yeah.<\/p>\n

Mazor: <\/b>But I think there are several things you could do, uh, all the way from getting a court order, stopping, you know, demanding the children back, going to the D.A.\u2019s office, several things. You seem to be in a terrible position for any one of them.<\/p>\n

McCoy: <\/b>Yeah, that sounds pretty good.<\/p>\n

Mazor: <\/b>But, you know, before I could recommend anything, or before I see what we could do, I\u2019d have to talk to you in person. (Unintelligible sentence)<\/p>\n

McCoy: <\/b>Yeah, well, I could<\/i> understand that. Um, um. Well, when could I meet<\/i> with you?<\/p>\n

Mazor: <\/b>Well, when do you want to come up to San Francisco?<\/p>\n

McCoy: <\/b>Uh, possible \u2014 uh, well, I don\u2019t know, I could probably make it close to uh, the weekend or the first part of next week. Uh, I\u2019ve got, uh \u2014 I\u2019m not (unintelligible word), taking some uh, um \u2014 I\u2019ve been taking some therapy for my back, and um, I\u2019ve got uh, an appointment Thursday and Friday, and uh, I would rather be here\u00a0for that. Um, I might be able to plan after that, um, possibly make it, uh, on the weekend or Monday.<\/p>\n

Mazor: <\/b>Can you hold on (unintelligible\u2014 probably “a minute” or “a moment”)?<\/p>\n

McCoy: <\/b>Yes.<\/p>\n

(Long silence)<\/p>\n

Mazor: <\/b>Well, I\u2019m open both Saturday and<\/i> Monday. So whichever you want, I\u2019ll let you talk with my secretary. Uh, she will give you whichever day you want it to be and timewise \u2014<\/p>\n

McCoy: <\/b>Okay.<\/p>\n

Mazor: <\/b>\u2014 and uh, take your name and your phone number, if we have to call you and tell you we have to cancel for some reason or the other.<\/p>\n

McCoy: <\/b>Okay.<\/p>\n

Mazor: <\/b>Okay?<\/p>\n

McCoy: <\/b>Okay.<\/p>\n

Mazor: <\/b>All right, hold on just a second.<\/p>\n

McCoy: <\/b>Okay. Thank you.<\/p>\n

Secretary: <\/b>Hi.<\/p>\n

McCoy: <\/b>Well, uh, that\u2019d be all right.<\/p>\n
