(Sighs) He\u2019s uh, he\u2019s in town tryin\u2019 to get us a big naval vessel. I mean a big boat, 350 ton. So in the meantime, he wa\u2013 he, he in\u2013 uh, he wouldn\u2019t have\u2013 it <i>wouldn\u2019t<\/i> have been his responsibility, it uh\u2013 <i>I<\/i> don\u2019t know. I said, I <i>presume<\/i>, it would be <i>Guy\u2019s<\/i> [Guy Mitchell] responsibility. <i>All<\/i> of them. Uh, <i>really<\/i>, it\u2019s <i>all<\/i> of your responsibility. You should <i>all<\/i> take it\u2013 and I\u2019m holdin\u2019 all of you responsible in the future. When you see that thing comin\u2019, if you don\u2019t see the uh, maintenance person, uh, the\u2013 the manager per\u2013 uh, uh, who\u2019s in charge, you\u2013 we will hold all of you responsible. Write it up.<\/p>\n<p><b>Crowd:<\/b> (Murmurs)<\/p>\n<p><b>Jones: <\/b>But I mean, bring it to <i>me<\/i>\u2013 Bring it into letter, \u2018cause that\u2013 See, if we woulda had a chance to clean that up\u2013 The <i>pigs<\/i> were swarmin\u2019 with files, inspection\u2013 They shoulda been dug so that the uh, water was not ha\u2013 uh, as muddy and murky as it was on that occasion. There should have been a <i>lot<\/i> of, uh, ins\u2013 uh, killing of flies <i>before<\/i> the Russians got down there. Inspection knew the tour, or they shoulda <i>asked<\/i> about the tour. And, uh, insecticide people should have asked about the tour\u2013 (Pause) It\u2019s <i>all<\/i> your responsibility to be <i>concerned<\/i> about that. Just like when I was faced Sunday night, sitting there at the table, talkin\u2019 to the Russians, on the most sensitive question of all: Why did you come to the United States? And I\u2019m trying to talk for <i>black<\/i> people, (Pause) alienated and how they woulda got into violence and got killed, and I\u2019m talkin\u2019, and there\u2019s nobody there to talk but <i>one<\/i>. That is baaad news. Baaad news. Some of you left me high and dry there, and that was <i>wrong<\/i>. He looked around\u2013 he <i>looked<\/i>, he took a look\u2013 I, I think I came through it reasonably, but he\u2013 he took a look around and he went, what the hell is this, you know.You can just see, he\u2019s a very observant person. I\u2019m trying to tell how black people would\u2019ve been killed in the streets, if they\u2019d have come in there with guns like they\u2019re doin\u2019 and done all these harassing things, that we\u2013 we would have <i>reacted<\/i>, and there would have been a <i>premature<\/i> violence that would have been <i>counter<\/i>-revolutionary because there was no revolutionary <i>ferment<\/i>, there was no revolutionary <i>coalition<\/i>. There was no <i>organization<\/i>. So <i>all<\/i> woulda happened would been bloodbath, and we were probably being set up to <i>create<\/i> that bloodbath. But everybody needs to s\u2013 feel like this place <i>belongs<\/i> to you, \u2018cause I don\u2019t give a damn what they do to me. Not one damn. All I want is the final translation out of this miserable thing called life. But people just go on about your lives like this damn place don\u2019t belong to you, and I\u2019m supposed to keep it. I been keepin\u2019 people for twenty-five years and more. For twenty-<i>eight<\/i> years, since I started the movement, I\u2019ve been keepin\u2019 people fulltime, and that\u2019s why I resent this damn thing as some of you people want to get into these shackin\u2019 situations, and no responsibility. Back to <i>that<\/i> point. I resent it because, you know, if a <i>fuck<\/i> was all that a person needed, I could maintain this organization by goin\u2019 down five\u2013 four hours and I\u2019d have mosta\u2013 of the people <i>fucked<\/i> that needed fucked. But that\u2019s not what people need\u2013 They need s\u2013 they need <i>talk<\/i>, they need <i>counsel<\/i>, they need <i>help<\/i>, they need, uh, someone to <i>hear<\/i> them, to <i>feel<\/i>, to <i>listen<\/i>\u2013<\/p>\n<p><b>Female in crowd: <\/b>That\u2019s right\u2013<\/p>\n<p><b>Jones: <\/b>\u2013by God. And uh, then\u2013 then the assistance with children. And I want it <i>very<\/i> understood and <i>clearly<\/i> understood situation on this thing, one time and for all, how we\u2019re going to <i>conduct<\/i> this situation, <i>what<\/i> are the limits of responsibility, <i>who<\/i> (draws out word) is going to be participant there at\u2013 We had a vote, but the vote\u2013 And I think\u2013 A lot of people think you voted against it, and so that gives you [the] right to do what the hell you <i>want<\/i>. We <i>said<\/i> that the majority would rule for six <i>months<\/i>\u2013<\/p>\n<p><b>Male in crowd: <\/b>That\u2019s right.<\/p>\n<p><b>Jones: <\/b>\u2013and <i>all<\/i> people would abide by that majority decision \u2013 I think it was six months \u2013 until it was reviewed.<\/p>\n<p><b>Male in crowd: <\/b>That\u2019s right.<\/p>\n<p><b>Jones: <\/b>And so <i>don\u2019t<\/i> try to think just \u2018cause you <i>voted<\/i> against the system \u2013 and a lot of people were not there so we\u2019ll take the vote <i>again<\/i>\u2013 And we want to understand <i>exactly<\/i> what\u2019s gonna happen in a relationship. We\u2019ll\u2013 <i>we\u2019ll<\/i> vote this again. But if the people are going to stay here\u2013 What\u2019s the matter? (speaks to someone off mike, unintelligible) (Back to mike) Yeah, well, I hope they don\u2019t wait there too long, because, uh, those press, that press will leave\u2013 (Pause) The press\u2019 idea?<\/p>\n<p><b>Woman:<\/b> I don\u2019t know\u2013 (unintelligible)<\/p>\n<p><b>Jones: <\/b>The press\u2019 idea? I want to know if it\u2019s the <i>press\u2019<\/i> idea. It\u2019s not the press\u2019 idea. They\u2019d have busy people. It\u2019s uh, end of the day. Five o\u2019clock\u2013 They ain\u2019t gonna stay\u2013 (Pause) <i>Press Democrat<\/i>. Good. That\u2019s good. They oughta arrive\u2013 (Pause) It\u2019s ridiculous to be constantly besieged with these bastards, and it won\u2019t come out right as it is\u2013 It won\u2019t come out right\u2013 Yes? (Pause) (Resolved tone) All right. I\u2019ve only gone on, it\u2019s about ten minutes. (Pause) If you are having a relationship\u2013 (Pause) Are we living together? If not, if we\u2019re going to have relationships that do not live together, I want <i>clear<\/i> definitions of what those relationships are gonna be. You have a child, you assume responsibility. If you don\u2019t have a child, you get your ass in that nursery. If you\u2019re a male and assume responsibility with children, you wash diapers (Pause) and you <i>deal<\/i> with children. This thing of go\u2013 wantin\u2019 to use people, I wish to hell, you\u2013 you\u2013 this is what it boils down to: A lot of you guys want sex and <i>no<\/i> responsibility.<\/p>\n<p><b>Crowd:<\/b> Right.<\/p>\n<p><b>Jones: <\/b>Now, I have never had that opportunity, and I got more sex to deal with than any of you got to deal with. N\u2013 <i>None<\/i> of you have had the problem that I\u2019ve had. I\u2019ve never been able to have sex without responsibility.<\/p>\n<p><b>Woman in crowd:<\/b> (unintelligible)<\/p>\n<p><b>Jones: <\/b>What is it? (unintelligible aside) (Pause)<\/p>\n<p>(Tape edit)<\/p>\n<p><b>Jones: <\/b>It has <i>fallen<\/i> into the Himalaya Mountains and promises to pour radiation debris that they have no <i>way<\/i> to calculate its lethal effect in the Ri\u2013 in the Ganges Ree\u2013 uh, River throughout India, and In\u2013 and all the Ganges River is used for drinking purposes, baptisms, bathing and all sorts of things. And drinking. (Pause) Three quarters of the population, yes, I was getting ready to say\u2013 I didn\u2019t know that exact statistics, so it, uh, was a sensory device to be able to tell what was happening in China, and it was done without the Indian government\u2019s <i>approval<\/i>. And now it\u2019s collapsed and gone into the\u2013 It collapsed in the mountains and promises to \u2013 with the rain, with the melting of the snow \u2013 it said, radiation debris would be pouring into the Ganges River. You can be <i>glad<\/i> that you are where you\u2019re at, and we want <i>work<\/i> to get our people here instead of infighting and <i>shit<\/i>, because it\u2019s gonna be over, friends. It\u2019s gonna be over.<\/p>\n<p><b>Male in crowd: <\/b>That\u2019s right\u2013<\/p>\n<p><b>Jones: <\/b>The Soviet Union today denounced their concept of peaceful detente. They said that it will not\u2013 it has proven since the time of Premier Kresh\u2013 [Nikita] Khrushchev, that it has been unacceptable, said it has opened us to many charges of <i>revisionism<\/i>, but we are now back to the position where we have had to face that you <i>cannot<\/i> deal with capitalism, that the concept of gradualism and that change can come through democracy and that coexistence is possible between capitalism and socialism is in grave <i>dispute<\/i> in the Soviet government. Now, I may be quoting just slightly off, but that\u2019s about it. Now, that\u2019s bad news, too. (Pause) They\u2019re on a <i>war<\/i> footing, honey. Don\u2019t know what the hell\u2019s going to come out of it all but that\u2019s\u2013 I don\u2019t know what else to say in the way of news. There\u2019s so damn much news we just can\u2019t keep up with all of it\u2013<\/p>\n<p>(Music from another track competes with conversation)<\/p>\n<p><b>Jones: <\/b>We will make significant impact ourselves, I had an opportunity to do something through this movement in Central America, and within a few days, I ought to be able to tell you something about it.<\/p>\n<p>(Music stops. Burst of static)<\/p>\n<p><b>Jones: <\/b>So we don\u2019t just sit here and idle our\u2013 I\u2019m tired of this idling shit and talkin\u2019 on news so we have, uh, devised certain uh\u2013 certain modus operandi that will hel\u2013 will help liberation in other places, at least to some degree.<\/p>\n<p><b>Crowd: <\/b>(Light applause)<\/p>\n<p><b>Jones: <\/b>Okay. I can\u2019t think of any other damn news that is relevant.<\/p>\n<p>(Drum\/Latin Music plays on separate track)<\/p>\n<p><b>Jones: <\/b>(Starts in mid-sentence) \u2013these uh, the ca\u2013 The Chinese seg\u2013 sector of the population of general in Vietnam is rebelling against, uh, People\u2019s Republic of China\u2019s renegade foreign policy, and the People\u2019s Republic was forced in Peking to say that they will withdraw from the camp Ho-Chi [phonetic] and uh, the uh, Vietnamese border dispute, but they are demanding that USSR stay out of Vietnam, and does\u2013 the USSR didn\u2019t even respond to them. They said they did not respond to them. But China still got her ass in Somalia, tryin\u2019 to back and further intensify and gave pledges of support to the aggressive, fascist regime of Somalia. Now that\u2019s a strange (draws out word) kind of goddamn communism. I know there\u2019re people here that appreciate communism in Guyana\u2013 in China, but I don\u2019t know how they can appreciate it any further than its domestic effects, because it has been, <i>not<\/i> and\u2013\u00a0lib\u2013 an international communism, it\u2019s been a nationalistic communism. If <i>we<\/i> were here <i>seated<\/i> in this Jonestown community without <i>any<\/i> consideration for the medical people \u2013 and some of you get a little impatient, you\u2019re not friendly, we have forty or fifty people, we don\u2019t know how in the hell we\u2019re going to afford it \u2013 but if you look at those precious, dear people waiting in medical lines, and we didn\u2019t offer them some of our free assistance, I don\u2019t know how we would <i>live<\/i> with ourselves. In spite of those CIA, that element that says in this government that we don\u2019t do it. We go ahead and do it and <i>fuck<\/i> them!<\/p>\n<p><b>Crowd:<\/b> Cheers and applause<\/p>\n<p><b>Jones: <\/b>If <i>we<\/i> were to maintain ourselves alone\u2013 certainly you have to de\u2013 defend your base. That was Leninist philosophy. That was his philosophy as opposed to Trotskyite views. [Leon] Trotsky said export revolution before it\u2019s even worked out in the Soviet Union. You\u2019ve <i>got<\/i> to build your own base. You\u2019ve got to deliver your own people, liberate them, sustain them, before you can extend help and assistance for liberation to other <i>quarters<\/i>. But if <i>we<\/i> in this particular time were to cut ourselves from giving assistance, our meals on Sunday, to these precious people who come in from outlaying areas, we would be guilty of the kind of policy that China is following. Although China\u2019s policies of communism is not as pure as ours, because their <i>ruling<\/i> class still have very special interest. They have special uh, facilities, homes and luxuries and uh, travel allowances, that\u2019s something you don\u2019t see me take. If you see me taking <i>any<\/i> privilege, you bring it out here, and I will deal with it. I don\u2019t know what it is\u2013 I don\u2019t know what it is\u2013 I\u2019m just damned near perfect as you can be. I know one thing: I do care and I do get myself involved and I sensitively listen and I don\u2019t follow my <i>ass<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p>(Music stops)<\/p>\n<p><b>Woman in crowd:<\/b> That\u2019s right!<\/p>\n<p><b>Jones: <\/b>I don\u2019t do that. I don\u2019t allow that to happen. And I <i>could<\/i>. That\u2019s what really disturbs me with someone like you. You think \u2018cause you\u2019re young and I\u2019m old, that you\u2013 you\u2013 you\u2019ve got the sex drive. You haven\u2019t got any sex drive, and I keep repeatin\u2019 it. I think they need something more than that. If you don\u2019t have a unit somewhere to br\u2013 to measure caring and sharing, I don\u2019t believe that this\u2013 that we can ever extend this on a larger basis. Now if you really want a free fuck, I think it ought to be, uh, <i>extended<\/i> to more than just a casual meeting. Then get a house, and let every man\u2019s wife be open season. (Pause) <i>All<\/i> women\u2013 and then you have to follow\u2013 you have to follow, except those who don\u2019t want any participation in it, but that will not be the man\u2019s decision. It\u2019s a criminal act of conspiracy to talk about coming in to a\u2013 a <i>sovereign<\/i> territory or <i>anyplace<\/i> and taking, by force, to kill, <i>dead<\/i> or alive, and take them back by mercenaries \u2013 mercenaries, everyone knows that mercenary means murderer \u2013 and if you don\u2019t get this thing under control and get your heads down to <i>zero<\/i>, where I\u2019m at, some of you fuckers, it carries over, I\u2019m tellin\u2019 ya.
