Marge.<\/p>\n<p>(Pause)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarite:<\/strong> Hello?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caller:<\/strong> Is this uh, Mar\u2013 Margarite, a little girl who babysits?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarite:<\/strong> Uh, yes it is.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caller:<\/strong> Well, this is Raydi Holsom, and I\u2019m\u00a0 sorry to bother you, honey, it\u2019s so late, but a lady gave me your number, said you did babysittin\u2019 work, and I have a\u2013 two little girls I was tryin\u2019 to get a babysitter for, and I wonder what you\u2019d charge me for something like that.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarite:<\/strong> Well, I usually charge a dollar an hour.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caller:<\/strong> A dollar an hour?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarite:<\/strong>\u00a0 Uh-huh [Yes].<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caller:<\/strong> Uh\u2013 uh\u2013 lady, I just met her, she\u2019s real nice and she gave me your number, I reckon you know who she is, so\u2013 tryin\u2019 to think of her name now\u2013 (Laughs) But Miss uh\u2013 Miss Joetta?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarite:<\/strong> Yeah, Gossie.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caller:<\/strong> Gossie, yeah, that was she. She said you\u2019d taken such good care of <em>her<\/em> children.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarite:<\/strong> Uh-huh.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caller:<\/strong> See, I have <em>three<\/em> girls, and she has one little boy, don\u2019t she?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarite:<\/strong> Right.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caller:<\/strong> Yeah, she and I had\u2013 she was to given me your name, told me you\u2019d been such a babysit\u2013 good babysitter, and\u2013 What nights do you babysit for her on, honey?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarite:<\/strong> Uh, well, usually when her husband\u2019s home, uh, whenever they wanna go out on Sat\u2013 like on Saturday or Friday night. And uh\u2013 Well, she calls it babysitting, I don\u2019t, but when I take her out to the grocery store and stuff, uh, uh, that\u2019s when I usually babysit for her.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caller:<\/strong> Uh-hmm. She was telling me her husband\u2019s in uh, government work.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarite:<\/strong> Yeah, he\u2019s Civil Service, like my dad.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caller:<\/strong> Boy, that <em>really<\/em> sounds interestin\u2019. Is\u2013 Is your dad in this\u2013 the same group he\u2013 they\u2019re in?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarite:<\/strong> Yeah, exact same thing.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caller:<\/strong> For heaven sakes! She was tellin\u2019 me about that, I thought that sounded so interestin\u2019. What they call that group, honey?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarite:<\/strong> Uh\u2013 I\u2013 I don\u2019t know.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caller:<\/strong> (interrupts) Is it T\u2013<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarite:<\/strong> The DNI Squadron.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caller:<\/strong> They\u2019re what, honey?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarite:<\/strong> Uh, they were in the DNI squadron\u2013<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caller:<\/strong> Uh-huh\u2013<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarite:<\/strong> On base, but I don\u2019t know what they\u2019re in now, they got transferred to some new office.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caller:<\/strong> Oh, for heaven sake. And your daddy is a Espos\u2013 Esposito.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarite:<\/strong> Uh-hmm [Yes].<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caller:<\/strong> Well, she was tellin\u2019 me her husband\u2019s in the TDY group or somethin\u2019 like that.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarite:<\/strong> Yeah, well, that\u2019s what they\u2019re on now, they\u2019re on TDY.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caller:<\/strong> What does that mean, TDY?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarite:<\/strong> Uh\u00ad\u2013 temporary duty.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caller:<\/strong> Oh, temporary duty away?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarite:<\/strong> Yeah.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caller:<\/strong> Oh, the Y stands for away, isn\u2019t that somethin\u2019?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarite:<\/strong> Yeah.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caller:<\/strong> Well, for heaven s\u2013 does your dad go with her husband like out to those kind of jobs?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarite:<\/strong> Yeah.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caller:<\/strong> She tells me her husband travels all over the world.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarite:<\/strong> Yeah, my dad does, too.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caller:<\/strong> That\u2013 It sounds really interestin\u2019. I wish my husband would get in somethin\u2019 like that. Where\u2013 Where\u2013 Does your daddy go uh, to a different state?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarite:<\/strong> Yeah.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caller:<\/strong> Well\u2013<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarite:<\/strong> Uh, right now, let\u2019s see, he\u2019s over in uh, Italy or some place like that.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caller:<\/strong> Your daddy is?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarite:<\/strong> Yeah.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caller:<\/strong> Isn\u2019t that\u2013 Boy, wouldn\u2019t you love to do that kind of work?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarite:<\/strong> I\u2019d love it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caller:<\/strong> Well, what kind of\u2013 What do they do when they go away like that?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarite:<\/strong> Okay, the last time I heard, they were fixing it\u2013 they had some sort of interference, you know, and so forth\u2013<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caller:<\/strong> Um-hmm\u2013<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarite:<\/strong> \u2013with the radar, and they go figure out what\u2019s wrong and tell \u2018em what to do and how to do it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caller:<\/strong> Interference with the radar.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarite:<\/strong> Yeah.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caller:<\/strong> I thought that they\u2013 she said they did somethin\u2019 about phones.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarite:<\/strong> Yeah, well, that\u2019s the same stuff.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caller:<\/strong> Oh, I see.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarite:<\/strong> Uh, phones and uh, radios and radar, you know, it\u2019s all considered the same stuff.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caller:<\/strong> Uh-huh. Is\u2013 Is that government, you know, work? The Civil Service work?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarite:<\/strong> Yeah, that\u2019s Civil Service work.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caller:<\/strong> Is that\u2013 are these men with the uh, Air Force, are they just\u2013<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarite:<\/strong> Yeah, they\u2019re\u2013 they\u2019re uh, attached to the Air Force, yeah.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caller:<\/strong> Isn\u2019t that\u2013 Can you tell me uh, a name of it, \u2018cause it sounded like somethin\u2019 that my friend was in, but it had a different name than TDY, it was uh\u2013 EMC1315 branch.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarite:<\/strong> EMC branch?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caller:<\/strong> Uh-huh.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarite:<\/strong> Yeah, that\u2019s\u2013 That\u2019s what they\u2019re also associated with.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caller:<\/strong> What is\u2013 What\u2019s that called?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarite:<\/strong> I don\u2019t know. (Laughs).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caller:<\/strong> It\u2019s M C or EMC?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarite:<\/strong> EMC.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caller:<\/strong> EMC branch.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarite:<\/strong> Right. That\u2019s uh, uh\u2013 Mr. Uh\u2013 Oh, I can\u2019t remember his name\u2013 (Long pause). Berge\u2013 Mr. Burgess is our office. He\u2019s the head of that.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caller:<\/strong> Oh, is Mr. Burgess out here at uh, Kessler?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarite:<\/strong> Yeah, he\u2019s out here (unintelligible end of sentence).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caller:<\/strong> Well, then, uh, she was\u2013 she said that the Ste\u2013 Senator [John] Stennis, is he the uh, head of this whole thing?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarite:<\/strong> Yeah, he\u2019s the sen\u2013 uh, he\u2019s the senator that\u2019s keeping us down here.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caller:<\/strong> Oh, he\u2019s keepin\u2019 you there.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarite:<\/strong> Yeah.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caller:<\/strong> Well, isn\u2019t that somethin\u2019? I guess he\u2019s getting\u2019 up in years, isn\u2019t he?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarite:<\/strong> Yeah, and if he ever gets uh, out of\u2013 out of the Senate, uh, we get shipped some place.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caller:<\/strong> You get shipped some place?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarite:<\/strong> Yeah.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caller:<\/strong> How come, honey?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarite:<\/strong> Because, uh\u2013 well, they\u2013 they don\u2019t really want us down here now (Unintelligible word). That\u2019s all that\u2019s keeping us down here.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caller:<\/strong> Who\u2013 Who don\u2019t want it\u2013 who don\u2019t want ya, honey?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarite:<\/strong> Uh\u2013 I don\u2019t know, I really don\u2019t know who doesn\u2019t but\u2013 they just, you know, don\u2019t want us down here, because they want us someplace else like\u2013 when we were transferred down here, uh\u2013 like some of \u2018em were sent to Rome, New York, others were sent, uh, out in the middle of nowhere, I don\u2019t\u2013 can\u2019t remember the name of the place.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caller:<\/strong> Where was your daddy before ya\u2019all came here?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarite:<\/strong> In Sacramento.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caller:<\/strong> Sacramento.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarite:<\/strong> California.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caller:<\/strong> Oh, California! Lord, that\u2019s a long ways away, isn\u2019t it?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarite:<\/strong> Yeah.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caller:<\/strong> Well, then, uh, this uh, Senator uh, Stennis is keeping ya\u2019all here in Mississippi, right?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarite:<\/strong> Right.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caller:<\/strong> Well\u2013 well, he probably likes ya bein\u2019 here, don\u2019t he?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarite:<\/strong> Yeah.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caller:<\/strong> Wonder where the home base is for all these people.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarite:<\/strong> I really don\u2019t know.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caller:<\/strong> It must be a nice group. What\u2019s in Sacramento? Is that a group, too?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarite:<\/strong> Uh, that\u2019s\u2013 it was uh, sort\u2013 some sort of uh, organization\u2013 organization called GIA, and they broke it up into these little, uh\u2013 little things, and so forth.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caller:<\/strong> The group\u2013 The group\u2013 The group in Sacramento was called the GIA.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarite:<\/strong> Yeah, yeah, right.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caller:<\/strong> Oh, and they broke that up into little groups to go all over the world.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarite:<\/strong> Right.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caller:<\/strong> Well, isn\u2019t that interestin\u2019. And\u2013 And now is this\u2013 Is Burgess like a lieutenant or\u2013?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarite:<\/strong> Uh\u2013 I don\u2019t know what he is.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caller:<\/strong> Well, that\u2019s nice that that\u2013 I wonder how many men\u2019s in there.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarite:<\/strong> Oh well, let\u2019s see, I know, uh\u2013 I don\u2019t know, about eight, uh different people in that\u2013 that uh, little\u2013 whatever it\u2019s called, squadron or whatever it is, I don\u2019t know.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caller:<\/strong> It\u2019s called a TDY.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarite:<\/strong> Yeah.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caller:<\/strong> Isn\u2019t that somethin\u2019. Well, I just uh\u2013 Course, you know, they have so many (Unintelligible word), I suppose they just all men employed there, not many of (Unintelligible word) women, huh?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarite:<\/strong> Yeah, they\u2013 they have the women, uh, there just to do the secretarial work.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caller:<\/strong> The men do the regular work.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarite:<\/strong> Right.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caller:<\/strong> Men do the\u2013 Well, I couldn\u2019t figure out when she said phones, so it\u2019s\u2013 it\u2019s radar equipment they repair or phones?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarite:<\/strong> Uh, they\u2019re all the same stuff. They\u2013 they classify probably under radar\u2013 uh, interference and transmission.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caller:<\/strong> Uh-hmm.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarite:<\/strong> You know like, if\u2013 if like, uh, something\u2019s interfering with the radar, they have to find out what it is.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caller:<\/strong> Uh-hmm.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarite:<\/strong> And uh, if\u2013 if it happens to be like a\u2013 well, it could be anything, really. (laughs) And they just fix it. Like it could be an interference of some radio station or something like that, or a\u2013 a piece of equipment\u2019s gone bad, and they tell \u2018em what to do and how to do it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caller:<\/strong> Oh, I guess I misunder\u2013 I thought she said telephones.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarite:<\/strong> Yeah, well, it\u2019s the same stuff. It\u2019s\u2013 It\u2019s radar and telephones and\u2013 uh, just communications, totally.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caller:<\/strong> Yeah, yeah, I suppose your\u2013 your mother\u2019s one of those TDY widows, too, huh?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarite:<\/strong> Yeah, sorta.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caller:<\/strong> What does the Y stand for? That don\u2019t\u2013 that\u2019s temporary duty away?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarite:<\/strong> I really don\u2019t know, all I know is it\u2019s temporary duty.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caller:<\/strong> Well, it\u2019s interestin\u2019 to learn all those things. I wanted to get back to this babysittin\u2019. Do you think that, could you babysit like on a all day Saturday?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarite:<\/strong> Uh\u2013 <em>some<\/em> Saturdays I could.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Caller:<\/strong> Okay. Well, I\u2019d like to talk to my husband about this and uh, I\u2019ll give you a call back and a dollar isn\u2019t very much. I think it\u2019d be worth a dollar and a <em>half<\/em>.
