It goes into the life of Peoples Temple itself, presenting film footage from the Temple\u2019s history \u2026 with an artistic twist.<\/p>\n<p>The song had already been made before as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=YLaIbMQg2NY\">video<\/a> directed by Patrick Hoelck featuring Emma Roberts as a woman who steps \u2013 however briefly \u2013 from a television screen into the fantasy life of David Franco.<\/p>\n<p>This edition of <em>the jonestown report<\/em> includes <a href=\"http:\/\/jonestown.sdsu.edu\/?page_id=29274\">A Director Under the Influence of History<\/a>, an article by video director Isaiah Seret who discusses the creation of \u2013 and response to \u2013 the recent video. In <a href=\"http:\/\/jonestown.sdsu.edu\/?page_id=29273\">Talking with Cults: Conversations with a Video Director<\/a>, former Temple member Don Beck (who met Seret under his online name of Eiredon), writes about his interactions with the director since he first came upon the video in a Google search.<\/p>\n<p>The video premiered on <a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20251017132207\/https:\/\/boingboing.net\/2020\/11\/18\/on-todays-anniversary-of-jonestown-here-is-a-moving-music-video-using-footage-from-the-peoples-temple.html\">Boing Boing<\/a>, although it also appears elsewhere. The lyrics to the song appear on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lyricsmania.com\/go_out%C2%ADside_lyrics_cults.html\">lyricsmania<\/a> website.<\/p>\n<p>A number of reviews and critiques of \u201cGo Outside\u201d appeared in the weeks following the video\u2019s release. Among them:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u2022 A <a href=\"http:\/\/latimesblogs.latimes.com\/music_blog\/2011\/07\/live-review-cults-at-the-echo.html\">review<\/a> of a live performance in <em>The Los Angles Times<\/em> on 28 July 2011.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/turnstyle\/cults-video-director-find_b_907017.html\">Cults Video Director Finds Muse In Jonestown Massacre<\/a>, in <em>The Huffington Post<\/em> on 22 July 2011. <\/p>\n<p>\u2022 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sfgate.com\/entertainment\/article\/cults-indie-pop-duo-draws-flock-of-followers-2353647.php\">Cults: Indie pop duo draws flock of followers<\/a>, in <em>The San Francisco Chronicle<\/em> on 21 July 2011.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.straight.com\/blogra\/cults-go-outside-music-video-incorporates-jonestown-footage\">Cults\u2019 \u201cGo Outside\u201d music video incorporates Jonestown footage<\/a>, at <em>Straight.com<\/em> on 15 July 2011. \u201cSo, no bodies are shown, but the video\u2026 creates a profoundly creepy sense of foreboding.
