This takes some re-education, as so far as the world ever knew, the only enmity in play was that of Jim Jones against Leo Ryan.\u00a0 That Jones didn\u2019t want exposure; he wanted absolute control; that Jonestown was a hell hole, an armed camp, dangerous fanatics, whatever.\u00a0 That Ryan threatened Jones and Jones wanted him gone.<\/p>\n
It was never even broached if the Congressman had other enemies<\/em><\/strong>; much less if Jim Jones had enemies for other reasons<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n The reality was, as we will reveal, that Ryan and Jones had an enemy in common:\u00a0 the CIA<\/strong>.\u00a0 With the rare chance to do whatever they will in a remote foreign jungle where no one would investigate.\u00a0 Thus not just a frame, but a \u201ckill two birds with one stone\u201d:\u00a0 the Congressman and the cult leader both.<\/strong><\/p>\n But mightn\u2019t that endanger a thousand innocent lives as well?\u00a0 The sinister answer being:\u00a0 Yes, of course!<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n A \u201cKill Two Birds With One Stone\u201d Frame?<\/strong><\/p>\n To clarify, many frames ARE \u201ckill two birds with one stone.\u201d\u00a0 Let\u2019s say you want to X someone off the scene.\u00a0 You might frame them for let\u2019s say, the unsolved killing of a stranger, yes.\u00a0 But with political assassinations, maybe you kill the prime target, then frame it on whomever you want to take the fall.<\/p>\n In a scenario of collusion, you may have even commissioned<\/em><\/strong> the secondary target to kill the first.\u00a0 Dupe, use, then kill the killers rather than reward them.\u00a0 The public, of course, never learning the truth as there would be no one left to try or defend.<\/p>\n Or you could just go \u201cbang, bang, they did it so we killed them,\u201d with no one left to offer up any conflicting story or defense.<\/p>\n Bad enough.\u00a0 Two dead, one framed for killing the other, the real killers go free.\u00a0 But usually there are NOT another thousand, wholly innocent family people whom you write off as \u201ccollateral damage.\u201d\u00a0 That\u2019s beyond bad — it\u2019s unimaginable.<\/p>\n Moreover, with Jonestown, there was no way to count on having the community kill the Congressman.\u00a0 Even with enmity red-hot, the Temple was historically non-violent, with this community virtually unarmed!\u00a0 (As both American and Guyanese authorities confirmed in tragedy\u2019s wake.)<\/p>\n Moreover, the visit of the Congressman was hardly solicited.\u00a0 It was dreaded, but endured in the hopes of \u201cpassing inspection.\u201d\u00a0 Every intent before the Congressman arrived was to put their best foot forward, however<\/strong> anyone felt about the intrusion.<\/p>\n The climate only shifted when long-time Temple members opted to leave.\u00a0 Something that the soon-to-be killers of the Congressman could not have even counted on.<\/p>\n Indeed, if not for the cover of a remote foreign jungle, this was the ultimate \u201call bets are off.\u201d<\/p>\n Well, it was actually one step worse.\u00a0 Even with the Kennedy assassination, let\u2019s say, \u201cthe usual suspects\u201d (that is, aside from the as-soon-as-possible-killed-off Lee Harvey Oswald) ranged from the CIA, Naval Intelligence, the Cubans, the Mafia or some intertwining thereof.<\/p>\n So even for those who did not \u201cbuy\u201d that Lee Harvey Oswald was one lone assassin, there was confusion, conflict, with no one clear claim as to who had<\/strong> to be the guilty party and why.<\/p>\n But with the killing of Congressman Ryan, not so.\u00a0 The enmity between him and the CIA was well-known.\u00a0 Well, fatefully, except to Peoples Temple — tucked away in a jungle, it was not<\/strong> known to them, even suspected.\u00a0 But it was known to the Ryan camp, and to Washington generally.<\/p>\n I.e., had the \u201ckill two birds with one stone\u201d scenario not<\/strong> fallen into place, only one suspect would have been left standing:\u00a0 the CIA<\/strong>.\u00a0 A U.S. government agency standing accused of killing a U.S. Congressman.<\/p>\n Thus were there not only unpredictable, even uncontrollable factors, but the hugest stakes at play.\u00a0 With game plan still unknown had the assassination and\/or the mass deaths at Jonestown not gone so \u201cperfectly\u201d for them.\u00a0 (\u201cPerfectly,\u201d of course, spoken in its most diabolical sense.)<\/p>\n And could any of the above have been second-guessed by either side? — the Congressman\u2019s party or the community at Jonestown?\u00a0 Conceivably, if the two parties had only realized that they had a mutual enemy.\u00a0 But there was no trail of bread crumbs thrown in one or the other\u2019s face — to the contrary!<\/p>\n And if they<\/strong> each didn\u2019t know that they were mutually targeted by the CIA, and the people around them didn\u2019t know, then what of the public in the aftermath?\u00a0 It never even hit the public radar!<\/p>\n This was an \u201cop\u201d that was historically unprecedented to boot, so it might not have been on anyone\u2019s<\/strong> radar:\u00a0 First U.S. Congressman ever killed in the line of duty, with a cult leader going over the cliff and offing his own.\u00a0 And a huge number of people it was — nearly a thousand, including children.\u00a0 The body count alone knocked \u201chow,\u201c much less \u2018why,\u201d out of the ballpark of stunned disbelief.<\/p>\n That\u2019s just an over-the-top catastrophe.\u00a0 The last thing anyone ever thought was to call it was an \u201cop.\u201d\u00a0 Much less to look for other culprits with such a scary one at hand:\u00a0 Jim Jones.<\/p>\n That\u2019s why the first step, even decades later, is re-education.\u00a0 All the public saw was the brave champion of frightened relatives against the evil cult leader.\u00a0 Not even a hint that forces far more powerful were at play, more akin to a war.\u00a0 (The very \u201cCold<\/em><\/strong> War\u201d?\u00a0 That would play a key role, yes.)<\/p>\n Let\u2019s first clarify why EACH party, Leo Ryan and Jim Jones both, was targeted by the CIA; and why such a bloody scenario was their course of choice.<\/p>\n What Jim Jones and Leo Ryan Didn\u2019t Know About Each Other, But Which Put BOTH in the Sites of the CIA [1]<\/a> <\/strong><\/p>\n Leo Ryan and Jim Jones were pitted against each other, Jones in defense of his community, Ryan in defense of defectors trying to force their relatives\u2019 return to the States.<\/p>\n That\u2019s what the public saw.\u00a0 But even more:\u00a0 It\u2019s what Leo Ryan and Jim Jones themselves saw!\u00a0 Which was also all that the people they led saw!<\/p>\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Neither the Congressman nor the cult leader had any idea that the other was in the sites of the CIA.<\/strong><\/p>\n To Leo Ryan, Jim Jones was just a cult leader whom he believed to be unlawfully holding another couple\u2019s child.\u00a0 Politics was downplayed to him as nothing more than a side show.<\/p>\n To Jim Jones, Leo Ryan was just (as he put it) \u201ca fascist Congressman calling the shots.\u201d\u00a0 Jones was trapped in a jungle without even a phone, much less research capacity.\u00a0\u00a0 He had someone Stateside do the most cursory \u201cresearch\u201d on Congressman Ryan.\u00a0 A single vote was discovered on South Africa that Jones believed favored (at that time) a continued apartheid regime; and he labeled Ryan \u201ca fascist Congressman calling the shots.\u201d<\/p>\n The rest of Ryan\u2019s record was completely unknown to Jones or to the Temple.<\/p>\n What they did not know about each other:<\/p>\n Ryan had no idea that Peoples Temple it was not just about \u201ccult\u201d at all, but politics:\u00a0 Jones\u2019 forays into communist Cuba and socialist Grenada; his welcoming of displaced refugees from Pinochet\u2019s Chile; not to mention avowed American black communist Angela Davis, the Soviet-American Friendship Society, Daniel Ellsberg of Pentagon Papers fame (a key branch of the Watergate scandal), the American Indian Movement, and so many other icons of the left into the Temple in San Francisco.<\/p>\n Nor even about the group\u2019s planned re-relocation of his group to the dreaded then-USSR by the time of the tragedy!\u00a0 Indeed, a scouting trip had been planned for late November or early December to look into banking and land in the Soviet Union.\u00a0 To the CIA, Jim Jones was a dangerous man.\u00a0 He had to be stopped.<\/p>\n Jones, meanwhile, had no idea of the likes of the Hughes-Ryan<\/em><\/strong> Amendment of 1974 forcing the CIA to report covert \u201cblack ops\u201d to Congress, or that Ryan had been on the tail of the CIA for years with exposes of their Angolan involvement, their role in the MK Ultra mind control experiments, and the like.<\/p>\n The Problem Wasn\u2019t the Enmity, It Was What They Had in Common<\/strong><\/p>\n Understand, that for the CIA, the enmity between Ryan and Jones was not a problem — it was an asset!\u00a0\u00a0 But for the two principals, Ryan and Jones, the danger was not their opposition, but what they had in common<\/strong> — both targeted by the CIA.<\/p>\n Had these two ever coordinated and realized that they had that enemy in common, NEITHER ONE<\/strong> might have opted for the Congressional visit.<\/p>\n Too high a risk of a frame!\u00a0 Kill one, frame it on the other.\u00a0 \u201cKill two birds with one stone.\u201c<\/p>\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cWhat Leo Ryan and Jim Jones Didn\u2019t Know About Each Other, But Which Put BOTH in the Sites of the C.I.A.\u201d<\/strong> gives documentary back-up from news coverage of the day.<\/p>\n Set up From the Outside; Set Up From the Inside [2]<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n The Great Temptation<\/strong><\/p>\n Yes, to some diabolical Cold War mind, this might have seemed irresistible:\u00a0 Have the hated anti-CIA Congressman killed in a remote foreign jungle where no one would investigate; frame it on the pro-Cuba \u201ccult crazies\u201d trying to re-relocate to the dreaded then-USSR.<\/p>\n The Frame That Was Feared<\/strong><\/p>\n Jim Jones, of course, was inherently paranoid — by temperament, by psychology.\u00a0 But no.\u00a0 He wasn\u2019t expecting this<\/strong>.\u00a0 He was just (vaguely) expecting, let\u2019s say, a more \u201cstandard\u201d frame.\u00a0 Indeed, in an excruciating irony, he spelled out his worst fear, that of a frame<\/strong>, in a letter written to the President of the United States and Congress in March, 1978:<\/p>\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cAll that has been done is to get people to believe in society\u2026\u00a0 Our people had been so alienated.\u00a0 All that they can see in this is a set-up, a classic scenario:\u00a0 first muddy our name\u2026\u00a0 whip up attacks in the press, and then:\u00a0 by the time you reach the classic ending, the frame-ups, the \u201ckill,\u201c no one even cares.\u00a0 \u2026And they think that the press has already done its job with slander and smears, and so no one will care about the frame-ups\u2026\u201c<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n Well, it\u2019s true that the Temple was smeared long-distance in the press (the original piece appearing in an early Rupert Murdoch publication, New West.<\/em><\/strong>)\u00a0 This had been a group of impeccable reputation as \u201cthe darlings of the left\u201d upon departure.\u00a0 After their exodus, that reputation was shredded in the press, and by then there was no one left Stateside to defend their name.<\/p>\n Yet for most at Jonestown, it was still an amazing escape from ghetto life in the States.\u00a0 Yes, they felt progressively under siege and their leader was deteriorating before their eyes.\u00a0 We can speculate forever as to how or why no one wrestled the reins away from a leader even too ill physically by the end to lead.<\/p>\n But these were by-and-large people who did not<\/strong> want to be forced back Stateside.\u00a0 And many undoubtedly shared Jones\u2019 paranoia to at least some degree.\u00a0 They might have well feared a frame.\u00a0 They just weren\u2019t looking for this<\/strong> frame.<\/p>\n But there are two factors not even alluded to in the March, 1978 letter quoted above which laid the groundwork for this frame:\u00a0 One was that they were set up from the outside; the other that they set themselves up from the inside:<\/p>\n Set Up From the Outside<\/strong><\/p>\n \u201cSet up from the outside\u201d means that Jonestown, although Peoples Temple had been historically unfailingly NON-violent, was being portrayed as an armed camp.\u00a0 A key defector, Deborah Layton, was persuaded to swear out an affidavit that she had see 325 guns in Jonestown.\u00a0 It is unclear how she could claim this since they weren\u2019t there!\u00a0\u00a0 Neither the Guyanese nor American<\/strong> authorities found more than 39 small arms in tragedy\u2019s wake.<\/p>\n This community was really<\/em><\/strong> poorly-armed!\u00a0 Militarily defenseless!\u00a0 However, by the time of the tragedy, they had been portrayed as \u201can armed camp\u201d; so naturally, if something violent happened, it would be on them<\/strong>.<\/p>\n And the rationale for portraying a group as an armed camp when they are not?\u00a0 You are not<\/strong> either planning to attack them militarily and claim that they<\/em><\/strong> provoked it; or doing something violent yourselves and about to accuse them<\/strong> of the violence?<\/p>\n Otherwise, look:\u00a0 If you really want to retrieve people from a hostile environment, but you know full well that they are not<\/strong> well-armed, isn\u2019t the more likely route one of, let\u2019s say, negotiation?\u00a0 Why paint a community as armed when it\u2019s not, unless you want to either commit violence against<\/em><\/strong>them or to blame your own violent acts on<\/em><\/strong> them?<\/p>\n Even more fundamentally, if you care about the safety of people whom you say you want to retrieve, why steer the conversation to violence at all?\u00a0 Even hostage negotiators don\u2019t make violence their first resort.\u00a0 But this was a group that was even threatened publicly with mercenaries (see<\/em> [3-6]<\/a><\/strong>.)<\/p>\n Set Up From the Inside<\/strong><\/p>\n Thus that side of the set-up, the myth of \u201can armed camp,\u201d was rolled out to the public before the Congressman ever arrived.<\/p>\n But worse, the community had set itself up from the inside as well.\u00a0 For Jim Jones himself had turned the community into \u201csitting ducks\u201d:<\/p>\n Namely, although he wasn\u2019t threatening violence against anyone else, he was threatening violence against his own<\/strong> — a threat of mass suicide made to the Guyanese government if anyone tried to forcefully remove his son John, whose mother was a parishioner now defected and suing to retrieve the child.<\/p>\n That mass suicide threat was virtually acknowledged (and defiantly so!) in a public statement made from the community in April, 1978:<\/p>\n \u201c\u2026about some statement supposedly issued\u2026.by Peoples Temple whose contents we here are unaware of.\u00a0 It is supposed to be to the effect that we prefer to resist\u2026. harassment and persecution even if it means death\u2026\u00a0 \u2026we have decided to defend the integrity of our community and our pledge to do this.\u00a0 We are confident that people of conscience and principle understand our position.\u00a0 We make no apologies for it.\u201d<\/strong><\/p><\/blockquote>\n One could read this statement in many ways.\u00a0 \u201cResist. . . .even if it means death\u201d could mean passive resistance or even armed resistance.\u00a0 It certainly would not have to mean the draconian path of mass suicide.\u00a0 But from personal knowledge (although not yet known to me at that time), the \u201cstatement supposedly issued\u201d was<\/em><\/strong> the mass suicide threat.<\/p>\n Best surmisal is that the community felt knee-jerked into releasing the statement above because when Deborah Layton defected, she disclosed the previous threat; and Jones wanted it to seem a) like they were not<\/strong> admitting it; but also b) that even if it were so, it was justifiable!<\/p>\n At the least, a dangerous game!\u00a0 Along with a treacherous added edge:\u00a0 that the community had turned itself<\/em><\/strong> into sitting ducks!\u00a0 I mean, if you are already geographically trapped and militarily defenseless in a remote jungle, and you think that people are out to kill you, then why in the world would you be threatening to do away with yourselves<\/strong>??<\/p>\n As for Deborah Layton, her allegation of \u201c325 guns,\u201d i.e., a well-armed camp, was false\u2026.. and damaging<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0 \u201cSet Up From the Outside.\u201c\u00a0 <\/strong>But that the community had threatened mass suicide was true\u2026..\u00a0\u00a0 and also damaging<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0 \u201cSet Up From the Inside.\u201d\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n Thus whether the harm was coming from without or from within (it was clearly coming from both!), the prognosis for this community was not good.<\/p>\n Or worse:\u00a0 Whatever<\/em><\/strong> happened, who would be blamed?\u00a0 After all, if outsiders are killed, the (allegedly heavily armed) Temple must have been the homicidal party.\u00a0 If insiders die, the Temple (with the leader threatening to off them all) is the suicidal party.\u00a0 \u201cMade to order\u201d however it plays out.\u00a0 Whoever dies, however it happened, the Temple must have done it.<\/p>\n Though one does also wonder, in retrospect, about the anti-Temple faction too.\u00a0 If their appropriate next move was really to shove their way in, bringing media that it had been agreed to not bring!\u00a0\u00a0 If you really think that people are that dangerous (and with innocents at stake, to boot), why would you further enrage them?<\/p>\n Then at the last, add in two factors not<\/strong> predictable in advance, but the deadliest of all:<\/p>\n a)\u00a0 that the community bought into its own frame; and b) that Jim Jones, believing that guilt for the airstrip killings would bring an imminent military invasion, knee-jerked into what his psychology predisposed him to anyway:\u00a0 Off his own in an act of (alleged) martyrs\u2019 defiance.<\/p>\n Oh, it was by no means a certainty that all of the above would happen.\u00a0 A LOT<\/strong> of things had to go wrong on the Temple side for that to happen.\u00a0 A LOT<\/strong> of things have to go wrong for people to buy into their own frame, which was indeed the trigger<\/strong> for the mass deaths at Jonestown.\u00a0 (Note proximity of \u201cThe Congressman has been murdered\u201d and \u201cBring the vats\u201d on the final tape.)<\/p>\n Moreover, people will generally not do that anyway<\/em>:<\/strong>\u00a0 i.e., buy into their own frame.\u00a0 It\u2019s an aberration.\u00a0 Here there was apparently violent intent of the part of some (though very<\/em><\/strong> few) from the Temple, combined with no knowledge of intruders into the area and a lightning-quick here-and-gone attack.\u00a0 Thus it became, \u201cWho else could it have been?\u201d<\/p>\n But still, it\u2019s an aberration.\u00a0 Something that twisted is incomprehensible on its face, much less any happenstance that could be counted on to happen.<\/p>\n It is only perhaps matched by a twist of equal force on the part of the CIA:\u00a0 Namely, that they could not count on that bizarre twist happening at all.\u00a0 Thus:\u00a0 What if it hadn\u2019t?\u00a0 What if the community did NOT buy into its own frame?\u00a0 What of the prospect of a thousand ready-made alibis?\u00a0 What then?<\/strong><\/p>\n We will revisit those particular twists and turns.\u00a0 But the focus of this section of the project is operational<\/strong>.\u00a0 The pre-planning and execution, with both short-range and long-range cover-ups of the frame.<\/p>\n We Already Have a Backdrop of Damning Physical Evidence<\/strong><\/p>\n Much physical evidence has already been downloaded onto \u201cIn Plain Sight\u201d\u00a0 Namely, a) the NBC on-site film footage showing vehicles and assassins which do not match<\/strong> any profile from Jonestown; and b) the rampant mismatches of the alleged \u201ceyewitness i.d.\u2019s\u201d in the official report from the FBI.<\/p>\n Added to that is also \u201cThe Master Schematic\u201d providing proof that there had to be TWO<\/em><\/strong> tractor-trailers on the airstrip at the time of the shootings; as per not this researcher, but as per the two most reputable sources on site:\u00a0 namely, reporter Tim Reiterman and the surviving NBC film footage.<\/p>\n In other words, by now it is not even in doubt that a key criminal means in play was vehicle duplication<\/strong>.\u00a0 We just need an explanation of how that happened and done by whom.<\/p>\n Since that is also the one factor of pre-planning that would have to have been done by an actual person on-site in Jonestown (the rest of the pre-planning being behinds the scenes and out of sight) the \u201cBEFORE:<\/em>\u00a0 Pre-Planning the Frame\u201d <\/strong>section will be devoted to that.<\/p>\n Motive, Means and Opportunity<\/strong><\/p>\n Standard trio for criminal guilt:\u00a0 motive, means and opportunity.<\/p>\n Ryan and Jones both being targeted by the CIA gives us motive.\u00a0 The opportunity was the departure of the Congressman at the airstrip, obviously.<\/p>\n Now we need to address the means, which were operationally complex, ranging across BEFORE:<\/em> Pre-Planning the Frame; DURING:<\/em> Logistics and Execution; THE IMMEDIATE AFTERMATH:<\/em>\u00a0 Barring Rescue and Precluding Investigation; and THE DISINFORMATION COVER-UP:<\/em>\u00a0 The Lie That Sealed Pandora\u2019s Box.<\/strong><\/p>\n Thus we will trace the evidentiary trail through not just a top-professional \u201cop\u201c; but also the role of the Guyana Airways pilot; the military security on site which, mysteriously and to the shock of the victims, \u201crefused to intervene\u201d on their behalf; and the odd moves of a man suspected to be the CIA handler on site.<\/p>\n All of the above pre-planning behind the scenes<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0 But there was one critical piece of pre-planning that had to be accomplished through the front door:<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0 advance entry into Jonestown to photograph the Temple vehicles to be duplicated for use in a look-alike frame.<\/p>\n Now that\u2019s an oddly unique spec for a military op!\u00a0 Proof of which might easily remain concealed.\u00a0 Like let\u2019s say someone had visited the community, taken innocent-seeming pictures, then passed them on to some nefarious party.\u00a0 We could then just call it a surmisal<\/em><\/strong> — when did it even happen and who did it?<\/p>\n OR. . . . <\/strong>\u00a0it could have been some incredibly twisty tale of deceit to get a dangerous opponent through the front door!<\/p>\n Well, we can pick the latter with certainty.\u00a0 There was indeed a twisted charade that got the job done.<\/p>\n Thus we move to the next step, complete with the shocking evidence that follows:\u00a0 \u201cWhat Dangerous Opponent Got Into Jonestown With a Camera?\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n What Dangerous Opponent Got into Jonestown With a Camera?\u00a0 ([3-1]<\/a>, [3-2]<\/a>, [3-3]<\/a>, [3-4]<\/a>, [3-5]<\/a>, [3-6]<\/a>, [3-7]<\/a>, [3-8]<\/a>, [3-9]<\/a>) <\/strong><\/p>\n Since this was crafted as a look-alike frame (\u201clook-alike\u201d referring to Temple vehicles<\/em><\/strong> — they\u2018d not have known what \u201cTemple assassins\u201d to mimic, save for dressing assassins as civilians), we need to know how photographs were obtained from that remote community upon which to model the look-alikes.<\/p>\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Namely, what dangerous opponent got into Jonestown with a camera?\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n It\u2019s also invaluable to resolve because a look-alike frame seems so fantastical and this grounds it as valid.\u00a0 After all, this was a hands-on, face-to-face ground operation.\u00a0 It wasn\u2019t like someone shooting from a school book depository or from a distance at all.\u00a0 Pretty risky to go duplicating equipment designed to fool onlookers in plain sight!<\/p>\n And you couldn\u2019t just access those vehicles on Main Street USA either.\u00a0 This locale was remote.\u00a0 You wouldn\u2019t even know what vehicles to duplicate unless you were there.\u00a0 Unless you had yourself saw which vehicle was used to shuttle visitors back and forth between the airstrip and the community.\u00a0 That it was a tractor-trailer.\u00a0 Then which<\/em><\/strong> tractor.\u00a0 Which<\/em><\/strong> trailer.\u00a0 There was more than one of each.<\/p>\n (Note<\/strong>:\u00a0 There was also more than one means of transport to and from the airstrip.\u00a0 But the six-wheel-drive dump truck [also at the airstrip at the end] was only used for larger parties, like that of the Congressman.\u00a0 The trip to \u201ccase\u201d Jonestown in September, 1978, was just too sophisticated to undertake from just verbal descriptions.<\/p>\n The tractor used for shuttling to and from the airstrip was fairly standard for that day:\u00a0 a Massey Ferguson 178.\u00a0 The trailer was more makeshift, as is common for such vehicles; with removable panels of a specific number, a specific coloration, a specific design.<\/p>\n As the previous sections confirming the vehicle duplications suggest, the military-issue tractor (albeit based on the original model) required costly, specific structural rebuilds, which however upon inspection, are a dead giveaway that it was Trailer.\u201d)<\/strong><\/p>\n The giveaway on the trailer was accidental misassembly with the panels upside-down; and a single hitch between tractor and trailer instead of the double on the real vehicle as filmed by NBC.\u00a0 Producing a visibly, identifiably different<\/em><\/strong> vehicle.<\/p>\n The giveaway on the tractor was blatantly structural and only possible by military issue:\u00a0 The signature open step-in for the tractor driver was covered over with solid metal.\u00a0 A rebuilt frame!\u00a0 With the elevated steering wheel deleted, to boot.\u00a0 This vehicle was navigated with the driver not visible at all!\u00a0 (A tractor modified to drive like a tank?\u00a0 Maybe.\u00a0 \u201cThe Vehicle Used in the Attack:\u00a0 The Tractor\u201d<\/strong> highlights a modified appendage where the exhaust pipe would be, possibly a periscope.)<\/p>\n No guesswork in play either.\u00a0 The NBC camera caught the vehicle broadside in bright sunlight; to boot, at rest — no obstructions, no mistake.<\/p>\n Who did such a thing?\u00a0 Who would, who could, who had the resources to take a farm vehicle and rebuild it for military use?<\/p>\n Indeed, the tractor-trailer used in the attack was a different<\/em><\/strong>vehicle than the one from Jonestown.\u00a0 Those differences not<\/strong> \u201cspeculative,\u201d but a) engraved into the on-site NBC film footage; and b) that this was NOT EXPLAINABLE EXCEPT IF<\/strong> a dangerous opponent had gotten into Jonestown with freedom to take photos.<\/p>\n But the public never learned of any<\/strong> opponent gaining entry prior to the Congressional visit.\u00a0 In fact, that was the complaint:\u00a0 That this was a secret community (even though it had tons of supportive<\/em> visitors!) that no outsider could enter.<\/p>\n This leaves a gap to be filled\u00a0 If such a fantastical thing was done as to quasi-duplicate the Jonestown tractor and trailer, how were on site photographs<\/strong> obtained to get it done?<\/p>\n If that part of the story is revealed and makes sense, indeed is verifiable<\/em>,<\/strong> then (and maybe only then for some) is it hands-on tangible real.<\/p>\n Well, that\u2019s exactly what we have.\u00a0 A most suspect character with ploys to get into Jonestown with a camera!!\u00a0\u00a0 A perfect con, perfectly timed; bogus, otherwise inexplicable ploys (\u201ccover stories,\u201c I believe it\u2019s called) which however, resulted in a highly dangerous character coming to Jonestown with a camera<\/strong> just two months before the end.<\/p>\n What we can now reveal, complete with background and methods of operation, is who conned his way into Jonestown to assess physical logistics and to photograph the vehicles to be duplicated for this covert \u201cblack op.\u201d<\/p>\n We can nail this by examining the disturbing, many-hatted presence of one Joseph Mazor.<\/strong>\u00a0 (Note:\u00a0 Mazor is reportedly long-since murdered, allegedly by Disgruntled ex-members phoning up Rupert Murdoch to be featured in his then-fledgling magazine New West?<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n Guess again.\u00a0 The Berkeley Barb<\/em><\/strong> (not Peoples Temple) researched exactly<\/em><\/strong>how it happened, as revealed in its expose of September 23, 1977:<\/p>\n \u201cA Barb investigation has revealed that one individual working behind the scenes to discredit Peoples Temple is a San Francisco investigator who somehow managed to obtain a state investigator\u2019s license after being released from prison in 1976. Wait a minute.\u00a0 This man had never set foot in Peoples Temple.\u00a0 Nor did he know anyone from Peoples Temple.\u00a0 Yet he had some \u201coutsider\u201d employer funding him to \u201chire[d] one of the largest public relations firms in San Francisco and then asked them to coordinate a publicity campaign against the Temple and its minister, Reverend Jim Jones\u201d??<\/p>\n The Barb went on to quote that \u201cBob Kenney, an account executive at Russom, Lowry and Leeper\u201d confirmed that they had been hired by Mazor for just that purpose.\u00a0 Then he \u201creferred further inquiries to Mazor himself, whose only comment on Kenney\u2019s role was, \u2018I don\u2019t think that\u2019s any of your business.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n Yeah, I\u2019ll bet that\u2019s what he said. . . . .<\/p>\n [3-2]<\/a>\u00a0 <\/strong>MAZOR 2:\u00a0 MULTIPLE FELON turned MAZOR 3: LICENSED PRIVATE INVESTIGATOR (upon his umpteenth release from prison)<\/strong><\/p>\n I have printed a summary of Mazor\u2019s prison record, alongside the response from the California State Bureau of Collection and Investigative Services as to how a flagrant repeat offender for fraud, of all things, including numerous parole violations, could possibly have been granted a State investigator\u2019s license complete with bonding.\u00a0 (Just in time to investigate Peoples Temple, we might add!) \u201cIn Mr. Mazor\u2019s case, the Bureau received character references from many persons in law enforcement and the legal profession, attesting to his qualifications and fitness for a license.\u201d\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n Then they were full of assurances:<\/p>\n \u201c\u2026 many provisions of the Private Investigator and Adjuster Act\u2026. as well as Bureau regulations\u2026. are designed to curb abusive practices by private investigators, and include remedies for impersonation, invasion of privacy, and fraud.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Excuse me.\u00a0 This multiple repeat offender FOR fraud, bogus checks, impersonation and the like, is last released from prison in 1976<\/em> and then is granted a private investigator\u2019s license <\/strong>in\u2026\u2026. 1977(!!)<\/em>, to the tune of high praise from \u201cpersons in law enforcement and the legal profession\u201d??<\/strong><\/p>\n Does this give new meaning to, \u201cThey said it with a straight face\u201d?<\/p>\n And as if that were not enough. . . . .<\/p>\n [3-3]<\/a>\u00a0 MAZOR 4.\u00a0 INTERPOL AGENT (the last piece of \u201cThe Resume from Hell\u201d)<\/strong><\/p>\n In January, 1978, it was printed in The Peoples Forum,<\/em><\/strong> the Temple\u2019s local newspaper that Mazor\u2019s Interpol identification number was now known.\u00a0 The Temple researcher told me that she had seen it personally.\u00a0 I had no reason to doubt her word.\u00a0 It was a private conversation unrelated to public PR.<\/p>\n Let me see.\u00a0 Where are we now with Joseph Mazor?\u00a0 O.k.\u00a0 Instigated the press smears using large sums from unknown parties, neither he nor they linked to the Temple at all.\u00a0 Had a long criminal record, all for con artist crimes.\u00a0 Was mysteriously granted a private investigator\u2019s license upon discharge from his third parole violation.\u00a0\u00a0 Now discovered to be an Interpol agent.<\/p>\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Why would anyone trust this person??\u00a0 <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n [3-4]<\/a> [3-5]\u00a0<\/a> Two Panels:\u00a0 What Baits and Ploys Did Mazor Use with the Un-Briefed, Gullible Players on September 5, 1978 to Con His Way Into Jonestown?<\/strong><\/p>\n Again, Why would anyone trust this person?? <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n In less critical straits, a big \u201cno.\u201d\u00a0 But Jim Jones was by now failing physically, deteriorating mentally, desperate for intelligence, assaulted in the press, pursued by a Congressman, trapped in a jungle, with the hoped-for escape to the then-USSR being blocked.<\/p>\n Combine this with a meager over-worked staff Stateside, with whatever instructions conveyed by\u2026\u2026 ham radio across continents!<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n
\n\u201cJoseph A. Mazor,<\/strong> the detective, has a lengthy criminal record including at least eight arrests in three states for various bogus check and fraud charges, six convictions, several jail and prison terms, and has been returned to confinement three times for violating probation and parole by committing new crimes.
\n\u201cA confidential, 16-page California Adult Authority report on Mazor, written in 1970, was recently obtained by the Barb.\u00a0 \u2019[He] is a smooth con-man with an insatiable appetite to get ahead,\u2019 concludes the\u00a0 report.\u00a0 \u2019He is bright, well-educated, and so well-versed in the law that he had five attorneys in the Pomona area convinced that he had a law degree.

\n\u201cMazor had admitted to The Barb that he was first employed to investigate the Peoples Temple in November, 1976, eight months before publication of the first New West article.\u00a0 But he refuses to say who retained him.
