Jonestown&#8217;s population of about a thousand people ranged from newborn infants to elderly seniors, with diverse needs to be met far away from regular medical hospital support. Under the responsibility of Marceline Jones and Phyllis Bloom (Chaikin), the department was staffed by Temple members who were trained and qualified in the health fields. Phyllis Bloom planned the curriculum for the classes.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><b>Health Clinics:<\/b>\u00a0Open clinics were held on Sunday several times each month for local Guyanese and Amerindians to come in for health consultation.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p align=\"left\"><b>.\u00a0<a name=\"greet\"><a href=\"http:\/\/jonestown.sdsu.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/10\/4-GreetinSundayPatientsJuly21.78.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Greeting Sunday Patient Guidelines (July 21, 1978)<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p align=\"left\"><b>Herb Garden &amp; Kitchen:<\/b>\u00a0Several were growing herbs and plants, investigating the medicinal as well as nutritional advantages that could be gained.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><b>Dental Consultation:<\/b>\u00a0Though there was no dentist in Jonestown, several hygienists kept track of tooth problems.\u00a0A Georgetown dentist who was impressed with Peoples Temple came to Jonestown several times for consultations and dental work.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><b>Medical \/ Specialist \/ Dental\u00a0Services in Georgetown and Caracas:<\/b>\u00a0For health problems beyond the scope of care in Jonestown, people were taken out specially for health consultations and medical care. Most of the visits that people made to Georgetown were health related.
