Part 1:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Jones:<\/strong> They want to be quiet for a minute. Uh, L.C. Norris passed on. I\u2019d warned him that his weight back in the States had<\/em> to be reduced, that it was dangerous. He had lost pounds here, but he was exceedingly overweight. Plus, the hospital that was listening last evening, I was there, I was soothing his brow. He was not calling on Father, he was calling on Jesus. Moreover, he has been talking about having individual power with God, individual gifts with God. Now the others uh, better take close, close look at this, because it has sad ramifications. He\u2019s had a good life with Emma [Jurado]. Emma is not responsible, give her a lot of\u2013 lot of love. You know, when some people die, I don\u2019t make mention of it other than to say, it\u2019s a natural process of living. We aren\u2019t going to condemn everyone that dies, because that would be asinine. He will have the opportunity of coming back, probably shortly, and we will know him again, so there\u2019s no separation. But it is essential that you throw your Bible away, which some have not done, (repeats more emphatically) which some have not done, and also, destroy all<\/em> religious literature and anything other than my<\/em> teachings, my<\/em> sayings, my words<\/em> by tape recorder. I urge you to listen to this.<\/p>\n

News will continue until I stop it. Then we\u2019ll go on into Russian, because we have to have a full comprehension of news each evening. So be there at the pavilion in your seat promptly at 7:30. And don\u2019t tell me you don\u2019t have room enough to see a film. We have a film on the horrors the way blacks are being treated, Indians, in England, and you can move up to the sides and see it, if you make an effort. So you must make the effort. Jones:<\/strong> \u2013tion, attention. The\u2013 Furthermore, L.C. Norris did not follow the instructions as best he could that I\u2019d given on one occasion. Furthermore, he\u2019s a casualty and a victim of US medicine, and we will grieve over him, and we will recognize the day of his passage, just as we do those that went before them. He had pancreatic cancer. Anybody with their right mind could\u2019ve caught that, but US medicine doesn\u2019t give a damn<\/em> about we who are poor whites, blacks and Indians. So they found nothing wrong with the man. And he died of pancreatic cancer. The wife wants to be assured<\/em> of that. We can be\u2013 we can pay and have it sent to Georgetown to confirm<\/em> this. He was filled with pancreatic cancer, which should\u2019ve been found by any<\/em> sensible doctor in the United States, but they did not give enough concern. No way did they show any concern. (Pause) Stand by. (Away from mike) You ready? What\u2019s it?<\/p>\n

Jones:<\/strong> Now, the\u2013 the\u2013 there\u2019s another matter that\u2019s giving me absolute grave concern. We have some people who are refusing the doctor [Larry Schacht] in giving the exam. That will stop immediately. I am your Father, Florine Dotson [Dyson] is one, you\u2019d better get in there, because if you don\u2019t, there\u2019s something there that could do you some harm. We know what we\u2019re doing. Don\u2019t carry over the lies of the Peace Mission and deprive yourself of good health. And I\u2019m prepared to pay for the best to take care of your need. So uh, no question about it, anybody that refuses the doctor to examine them, or the barefoot doctors, they\u2019re trained, from heretofore, you will be brought to discipline. And we\u2019ll report you to the U.S. Embassy, who will not have any time for you, other than to send you to a mental institution, and we\u2019ll report you to the Guyanese authorities. They both back this, and say no one else will be able to sneak out with our money without them being caught. They\u2019d see if they were caught, or doing anything else that was illegal. We will know the moment someone tries to goes out.<\/p>\n

So keep that in mind. You do what the doctor says. I trained him, through my will and power, I made him a doctor. When he was nothing but a catatonic, who could not move one leg or arm, he\u2019d put an arm in a certain way, it\u2019d stay that way. He has miraculously completely healed, after ten years of catastonic\u2013 catatonic schizophrenia, and came out of that shell to become an honorary student, a medical doctor, praised by doctors all through the United States, head of MARCO medical net, all the doctors on the amateur [radio], he had said that he recognized more cancer cells than any doctor out of 5000 that he talked. Dr. [Carlton] Goodlett called him brilliant. I could go on and on. Don Freed said he\u2019d never had such an examination in all of his life, he\u2019s that thorough. He\u2019s that thorough with all of you, but you\u2019ve got to get (unintelligible word) more to get these barefoot doctors trained so they can examine. \u2018Cause this is nonsense.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s true, if you come over here and put another God before Jim Jones, some other God before socialism, some false God that doesn\u2019t exist, when you put that before the body of socialism, then there\u2019s nothing I can do for you. When you call on Jesus and tell him of your own powers and your religious abilities or your so-called gifts, there\u2019s nothing I can do for you, but feel sorrow in my heart. So at this moment, let\u2019s have just a minute of silence, then we\u2019ll go back to the news.<\/p>\n

Jones:<\/strong> Your hand\u2019s up like you know something. You know what I\u2019m talking about?<\/p>\n

Jones:<\/strong> Well, you do or you\u2019re not. You\u2019re not\u2013 You think I\u2019m a fool. I\u2019m not going to call you out in front of the guest and make an ignoramus out of you. I\u2019m not going to ca\u2013 stand up and ask you questions. Do you know the Doctrine of China’s Three Worlds<\/a>, and have somebody stand up and say, uh, I don\u2019t know what, maybe that means uh, the moon and the world and uh, and uh, Mars. Uh, that\u2019d be what some silly-ass person liable to say. Or the moon shines brighter in China than it does here. You don\u2019t know what comes out some people\u2019s mouth. So we do it\u2013 we do it. (Pause) Stand by. (unintelligible sentence) Only unbearable, if we were where we oughta be, communists, and thought a little bit about those that were starving to death, it wouldn\u2019t be unbearable. It\u2019s a vicious circle that perpetuates the problem it is designed to prevent. We keep people in meetings every night to keep control. No, I don\u2019t. I do not. Because people can go\u2013 What the hell can a person, 16 hours, they don\u2019t work that hard around anyway, I was watching you slip around here. \u2018Cause there\u2019s gone be some more brought up in Public Service, we\u2019ll watch \u2018em better. Hell\u2019s fire, there ain\u2019t nobody tired\u2013 so tired at the end of 16 hours they can\u2019t take off. They end up gettin\u2019 killed by tiger, or sent back to us? Sure<\/em>. That\u2019s a fact. Or they\u2019ll get something, some bite or some infection like uh, uh, (unintelligible name) had on his neck. And I don\u2019t appreciate this goddamn innuendo\u2013<\/p>\n

Woman in crowd:<\/strong> Everybody else is working hard\u2013<\/p>\n

Jones:<\/strong> So? There no way you can keep people [from] going out. If they want to face the tigers and snakes, that\u2019s their damn business. All right. Where was I? (Pause) Learning Russian, uh\u2013 (Pause) Christine feels is not accomplished in these classes. I don\u2019t either. I agree with you. You\u2019ve talked (unintelligible word) I think it\u2019s going to have to be done. It\u2019s gonna have to be done in sentence form. It\u2019s gonna have to be done when the movie gets here, and I hope when uh\u2013 Will you ask them when those movies are coming? Have they talked to us? (unintelligible word) when the English part comes? So I have to do that under the big stri\u2013 uh, spring? Screen? And I don\u2019t think we\u2019re ever gonna learn, doing (pronounces Russian syllable). We\u2019re gonna have to learn certain phrases, that everybody has to use, like going to the toilet, or, I want bread, I want my breakfast, or I want to see the doctor. Phrases that every one of you could put in the suggestion box, phrases that everybody would use, and that\u2019s the only damn way you\u2019re ever gonna learn it, because you never will\u2013 never<\/em> in my opinion, will you learn\u2013 uh, yeah, sure<\/em>, you can memorize the alphabet, but what the hell do you\u2013 Uh\u2013 Here we are, several classes late, and we have still fucking around with the alphabet.<\/p>\n

Crowd:<\/strong> Murmurs<\/p>\n

Jones:<\/strong> But what the hell better time do we have? [You] Say, I want to sleep. Well, that\u2019s nice. There\u2019s a lot of black children like to\u2013 they\u2019d like to eat. And our tax dollars that we all help pay\u2013 I\u2019m not talking to these people up there, I\u2019m talkin\u2019 to a lot of others, the suckers that give me trouble about these meetings. They\u2013 They\u2013 They\u2019d like to eat<\/em>. (Pause) And what we do here, the more we make, the more we can take or do what with whatever we do, if we stay here. Whatever. Uh, more people grumblin\u2019 about goin\u2019. Maybe we can keep both these things going. I\u2019m tellin\u2019 you right now my feeling. I\u2019ll leave the place here for those that want to stay, but I am leaving.<\/p>\n

Crowd:<\/strong> Cheers and applause<\/p>\n

Jones:<\/strong> Peace. Peace. Peace. I\u2019m leaving for the primary reason, I don\u2019t mind responsibility\u2013 (Pause) I\u2019m leaving not because I don\u2019t want responsibility, but because I don\u2019t see how in the hell I can handle a situation like we\u2019ve got going on here, as well as in the USSR, they\u2019re going to build all the houses for us, 400 houses, gymnasium, sports center, you know, in\u2013 perhaps an indoor swimming pool. All kinds of damn stuff like this, they\u2013 Money don\u2019t make any difference, they don\u2019t care about our money, they don\u2019t care how much any money, anybody makes money. They want us to (unintelligible word). They want us for one reason. Some people thought it was because of human rights, US. No, no, they don\u2019t want no trouble with [President Jimmy] Carter \u2018cause they think he\u2019s a maniac. They think they whole damn trans\u2013 uh, trans\u2013 uh, what is it? Trilateral Commission is crazy. They want Africans to see, that if you will<\/em> be communists, you can live in the Soviet Union. They\u2019re having a lot of applications from the African students who come who are not<\/em> communist, who are not willing<\/em> to be communist, and want to get citizenship. But the most<\/em> of the Af\u2013 uh, the African men marrying the white Russian women \u2013 and it\u2019s mostly that way \u2013 take them back. So they let them do<\/em> it. They\u2019re a free people. So they need us as Communists<\/em>. Now, I\u2013 I\u2019ve convinced them that you\u2019re all pro-Soviet. Some of you don\u2019t know whether you are pro-green shit or brown shit.<\/p>\n

Crowd:<\/strong> Laughter<\/p>\n

Jones:<\/strong> So I\u2019m forced\u2013 I\u2019m forced, Christine, into meetings. I don\u2019t know any other way. Now we can break these things down, I think there are practical ways, but then you\u2019ve got to be very, very careful that you got tapes, or you\u2019ll end up with people with six different accents.<\/p>\n

Christine:<\/strong> I didn\u2019t disagree with meeting. I just explained it\u2019s a vicious circle.<\/p>\n

Jones:<\/strong> Well\u2013<\/p>\n

Christine:<\/strong> There were\u2013 They were needed for control, (unintelligible under Jones)<\/p>\n

Jones:<\/strong> They not\u2013 no, no, no.<\/p>\n

Christine:<\/strong> I\u2019m just\u2013 I\u2019m just\u2013 I\u2013 I\u2013<\/p>\n

Jones:<\/strong> I\u2019ll tell you\u2013 I\u2019ll tell you, no, no, no, it don\u2019t work out for control, it causes hostility. If you want\u2013 I don\u2019t like even being this frank. It causes more<\/em> danger than it does anything else. The least<\/em> trouble we had with people, I can now\u2013 it was when I went couple of weeks with hardly any meetings. (Pause)<\/p>\n

Christine:<\/strong> Well, that was just my interpretation at the time. I\u2019m not\u2013<\/p>\n

Jones:<\/strong> Well, psychologically I\u2019m gone tell you. You remember back to the time when we were kinda loose and light, and we had a guest, we had some guests here, and we\u2013 we had\u2013 went a long (unintelligible word), people were watching their damn music and fuckin\u2019 in the rafters and under the house, I don\u2019t know where in the hell they were, but nobody was bothering about anything. People get rebellious<\/em> when they are made to do anything. Even if there\u2019s a good reason, they get rebellious<\/em>. So you guys who think this is a control mechanism are wrong<\/em>. And I\u2019ll tell you when you\u2019re right. You\u2019re right<\/em> on the Russian. You\u2019re right<\/em>! We\u2019re not where we ought to be. I just\u2013 I\u2013 I said before you got<\/em> here, we are not learning Russian. In my opinion, we\u2019re not learning<\/em> it. And we\u2019ll never learn it\u2013 I speak it tomorrow, they put several sentences up there, every day we could learn couple of sentences<\/em>. I think you\u2019re pushin\u2019\u2013 and I\u2019d think we\u2019d be very happy to do that, and the Russians\u2019d be very pleased if we did<\/em>. Maybe somebody can learn five<\/em>. I\u2019m just talking about what I would say. Say, I can\u2019t learn anything. Oh, yes, you can, darlings, I got grandmothers here that\u2019ve learned\u2013 They greeted him [Feodor Timofeyev] in Russian, and he understood<\/em> them. So\u2013 I mean, in their eighties. So uh, we uh, put these sentences on that board, and then we\u2019ll have something to hold on<\/em> to, that has meaning<\/em>. Like you all say, \u201cThank you, Dad.\u201d You damn near e\u2013 everyone of you say, \u201cThank you, Dad.\u201d But I\u2019ve been so involved with crisis, I don\u2019t even know what in the hell you\u2019re saying to me. What is it? (pronounces \u201cthank you\u201d in Russian) what?<\/p>\n

Jones:<\/strong> (pronounces Russian word twice). Well, I\u2013 I don\u2019t know what you\u2019re saying, but I presume<\/em> that\u2019s what you\u2019re saying, \u2018cause I have been\u2013 Uh, you saw, last Thursday night, we\u2019ve had me here with a bunch of crisises. Tonight they got me here with a bunch of crisises. And you\u2013 you people don\u2019t need to feel the weight of it, there\u2019ll be other crisises following you. Unfortunately. Yes.<\/p>\n

Young man:<\/strong> I mean, as far as we\u2019re conditioned, I think, if we have pictures\u2013 I mean, people tend to catch on to pictures, and we have pictures of sentences, we could\u2013 I think we could learn them.<\/p>\n

Jones:<\/strong> Oh, we\u2013 we definitely have (stumbles over words). They asked twice, said they asked 8R1 [ham radio]. A\u2013 Ask them again, where in the hell they are. Send them by a plane, we\u2019ll meet them, whatever, we send them by the pilot, we\u2019ll meet the goddamn plane, we need the goddamn plane bad. No shit (unintelligible word). I remember you people that have been excused from lang\u2013 un, classes, you won\u2019t be bothered by this anymore. Do you understand? If you\u2019ve already been excused, you won\u2019t be bothered. I\u2019ve got to explain me because some people are misinterpreting me. I do not believe meetings control. Meetings uh, do the exact reverse. They cause hostility. And no matter how much some<\/em> of you understand, you\u2013 you\u2019re gonna get\u2013 there\u2019s gonna be an element \u2018s gonna be hostile. Now there are some of you can study Russian on your own<\/em>, you can study the constitution on your own<\/em>, and I\u2019m open to those suggestions. If you\u2019ll\u2013 So I can test you some way, be helpful if you gave me some ideas<\/em>. But we got to get other things done<\/em> here, \u2018cause we got three major things. We gotta be creative. That means somebody knows how to make brooms like Ken Norton, and others who\u2019ve got creative ideas. School Department \u2013 [Tom] Grubbs \u2013 some people who\u2019ve got to be out<\/em> of it. But I have got to teach current<\/em> events, that means Grubbs is gonna have to keen his ears at break\u2013 uh, morning or noon or at night to hear the news<\/em>, which I don\u2019t (unintelligible word) big problem, but I think he does, from the last test I saw. It was excellent. You\u2019ve got to keen your\u2013 uh, because they want us, and they\u2019re liable<\/em> to come through here and ask you questions about the news. (Pause) \u2018Cause it could sound a little staged. You follow what I mean?<\/p>\n

Jones:<\/strong> It was just a little too good, just a little too perfect. If I were a Soviet. And you get a middle aged Soviet who may be distrusting and in particularly been bombed out the hell by [Adolf] Hitler\u2019s Germany that was sent by USA, they\u2019re going to be somewhat uh, upset<\/em> with Americans in general. He said there wouldn\u2019t been no question this<\/em> far before he gave his approval<\/em>. He said the approval would come a long time ago, but he said, our people have not been able to trust Americans. Every American we take in gives us some shit. [Lee Harvey] Oswald was taken into the Soviet Union for two years, given a good job, 500 uh, rubles a month. He paid four rubles a month rent. Uh, he saved after food, clothing and everything, when he talked to me, I calculated, the man saved 338 rubles. Now ruble\u2019s worth more than a dollar<\/em>. What the sucker do? He went over there, all the time being a part of a plant, to try to make Russia look like she was in on the killing of [President John F.] Kennedy. They didn\u2019t throw him out, though he was shiftless, went from job to job. They let him<\/em> go, and they let his wife [Marina Oswald] go, didn\u2019t they? (Pause) Uh, and so uh, believe me, uh, I don\u2019t know\u2013 I don\u2019t know any other answer. To work and the education. You got some answers, put them in the pressure box\u2013 in the pressure box, that\u2019s it\u2013 that\u2019s (unintelligible word), \u2018cause some people\u2019s pressure (unintelligible word) nonsense. I mean you do pressure (unintelligible word) nonsense, don\u2019t matter what I say to some of you seniors, you will not quit it. So-and-so had more rice, so many\u2013 some\u2013 somebody had more rice at breakfast, wheat\u2013 wheat we\u2013 wheatmeal. I\u2019m so damn tired of that, I don\u2019t know what to do. (Pause) Now if there\u2019s that, bring it on the floor and solve<\/em> it there. All right. Now. We keep people in meetings every night, in her mind, to keep control. Learning Russian, she feels, is acon\u2013 not accomplished in these classes. Nah, I can\u2019t deny it. And it\u2019s a secondary purpose. But it isn\u2019t<\/em> a secondary purpose. It is a primary<\/em> purpose. It\u2019s what scares the hell out of me. We\u2019re gonna have to do it a primary<\/em> purpose, and if you can\u2019t come up with some sentences tomorrow that we can speak well, then I say bring people in here to listen to an hour of news<\/em>, and be done with it. \u2018Cause they won\u2019t listen out there. They will not do it. You\u2019ll have to make them. They pay no attention to my voice, they shut my goddamn voice out<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Jones:<\/strong> And I\u2019m<\/em> trying to be your<\/em> friend, to give you<\/em> some knowledge. I\u2019ve given that till my throat\u2013 I was so sluggish from sleep and so feverish, that I could hardly hold that damn uh, microphone in my hand. And I\u2019ve had to have somebody tape<\/em> that microphone in my hand. I was in tremors from this\u2013 in this emphysema (unintelligible word) disturbance that causes my\u2013 if I get slightly infected, to go over a hundred and five. I was at a hundred and five, and shaking like this (unintelligible phrase) eyeball of a child fall out, to give the news that I knew you people had to have. I\u2019ve always<\/em> known you had to have the news. If we\u2019re gonna get the kind of support we need. I didn\u2019t know what form it was gonna take. I\u2019m not gone tell you the story. But Yugoslavia\u2019s offered us uh, uh, refuge. And there\u2019s someplace else in Africa, which I\u2019m not gone talk about. But the point is, the Soviet Union is rich<\/em>. The Soviet Union is the only one that has never one<\/em> time asked me how many checks people have, they don\u2019t want to know<\/em> it. That\u2019s why I say, we can\u2013 uh, we can get suits from the government, we got \u2018em on all the newspapers been going our way last night. They going favorable to us. And we can win<\/em>. Perhaps 40 million dollar suit<\/em>. The government\u2019s on the run<\/em>. Say, aah, just talking about Jim Jones. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. He said the CIA is a vicious<\/em> people. We\u2019ve seen that from the news tonight. Said the CIA will only try to get you someplace else with an assassin\u2019s bullet, before you can even get to the safety of the Soviet Union<\/em>. They may give<\/em> you the 40 million, but they will do everything in their power to make you pay<\/em> for it. I said, we\u2019d like to give it all to the Soviet Union. We don\u2019t like to come into 400 houses, a gymnasium, a theater, and an indoor swimming pool without anything. He said, don\u2019t worry, don\u2019t worry. When you get there\u2013 you will\u2013 you will farm the land. You will do great things with the land. I said, well, there\u2019s some that want to be doctors. That\u2019s fine, Comrade Jim Jones. He said, I presume there\u2019s enough of you that wants the land. I hope there is.<\/p>\n

Jones:<\/strong> Well, I don\u2019t get much \u201cAmen\u2019s\u201d on that, (voice fades)<\/p>\n

Crowd:<\/strong> Louder murmurs, then light applause<\/p>\n

Jones:<\/strong> I saw Comrade Principal Grubbs, who is a teacher, put up his hand. I guess maybe some of us have already had a education. I\u2019m<\/em> going to hold the land. I don\u2019t want to be tripping into Moscow all the time. But you can<\/em>. The musical group will naturally travel. But we\u2019re going to have to get that up to 200 a year, get \u2018em trained, they gotta work<\/em>. We\u2019re gonna have to learn what work<\/em> is. We gotta learn to see that, when a kid goes out of a class, that teacher don\u2019t let him wander around for twenty\u2013 twenty-five minutes. That\u2019s no good. What\u2013 what\u2013 uh, what teacher was letting you run around? You\u2013 you weren\u2019t going\u2013 you were\u2013 you were on no<\/em> mission but trying to open gates, you were tryin\u2019 to open gates that were c\u2013 locked, you were going in between buildings. You people make me nervous. I can\u2019t sleep night or day for watchin\u2019 what the hell you up to. Wha\u2013 and what were in the hell you doing?<\/p>\n

Child:<\/strong> I went there to see if Chris Lund was there to\u2013<\/p>\n

Jones:<\/strong> Uh, Chris Lund underneath the damn warehouse?<\/p>\n

Child:<\/strong> Yes, he has a shop underneath\u2013 He has uh, an electricity shop underneath his shop.<\/p>\n

Jones:<\/strong> What\u2019d you want with him?<\/p>\n

Child:<\/strong> He was gonna give me some wire so I could make a bracelet.<\/p>\n

Jones:<\/strong> Was it time for you to make a bracelet? Who is your teacher?<\/p>\n

Child:<\/strong> Peter [Wotherspoon].<\/p>\n

Jones:<\/strong> Peter, was he supposed to be making wire? Clear the matter up for me. I know I\u2019ve seen a lot of others, though, (stumbles over words) I won\u2019t\u2013 He may be wrong, I want to be fair with anybody, but I saw one day seventeen children out here, just\u2013 just playing around, after\u2013 uh, during school hours, just playing. Just playing. I don\u2019t know whether some of them were on work<\/em>, Public Service, I don\u2019t know whether any were, but they out there just playing. And I don\u2019t mean recess on the\u2013 on the uh, playground.<\/p>\n

But oh, no way<\/em> will the Soviet Union be like it is here. You got an entirely different ball game, and you know it, if you stop to think about it. If you stop to think about it, you got an entirely ball\u2013 different ballgame, \u2018cause the Soviet Union is communist and supports communist laws, and the people live basic socialist principles. And they don\u2019t have any god\u2013 They got cities, for instance, whole cities that don\u2019t smoke cigarettes, whole cities where there\u2019s no alcohol. They don\u2019t have any drugs. They don\u2019t have any sexual perversion to children. It\u2019s an entirely different situation. But if you go to Georgetown, our people can run into any kind of dirt. (Pause) And often do.<\/p>\n

Uh\u2013 Is it\u2013 Uh, I know she doesn\u2019t take it, we don\u2019t allow much to take it, we don\u2019t believe in medication. But, I mean, is she asleep? Someone told me she\u2019s asleep.<\/p>\n

Jones:<\/strong> (unintelligible) goddamn thing settled once and forever.<\/p>\n

Jones:<\/strong> Is Mike uh, Touchette and uh, Joyce Touchette here? Please sit down (unintelligible word) .<\/p>\n

Woman 5:<\/strong> Yes. Yes. (pause) Um. Thank you.<\/p>\n

Jones:<\/strong> Now\u2013 Now that\u2019s it. The power I had was nothing. He died this afternoon. That\u2019s what they (unintelligible)\u2013 Now I want Emma Jurado set down too in a calm session, tell her we love her, it\u2019d be a new life, that (unintelligible) didn\u2019t commit suicide so he won\u2019t go back 500 generations, but I can\u2019t hear anybody that\u2019s calling on Jesus.<\/p>\n

(Voice too low)<\/p>\n

Jones:<\/strong> In the first place, uh\u2013 All of you ought to take a look at that. You want to go back to USA. Here\u2019s a man who just gets here, and through all the medical tests, anybody with their right mind could\u2019ve found that he was full of cancer. Filled<\/em> with it. And they didn\u2019t do it. And I suspected they got him in the hospital. Too late anyway. But he had to believe in me one thousand percent, and he didn\u2019t believe in me one thousand percent. He even called me reverend. You got to know who I am<\/em>, if you want things out of me. And I\u2019m sure not a reverend.<\/p>\n

Crowd:<\/strong> Yes.<\/p>\n

Jones:<\/strong> But what you say with your mouth is what you say with your heart. You better know your Redeemer liveth, (ministerial voice) and is standing a latter day upon this earth.<\/p>\n

Crowd:<\/strong> Calls out. Applause<\/p>\n

Jones:<\/strong> Last night, (unintelligible word) fall out, he was calling on that old<\/em> Jehovah and that old Jesus. Not Jim Jones name once. He was alert and conscious. I knew he was then done. I knew he was done. Okay. I love\u2013 So we love you, and you\u2019re a good worker, but you\u2013 you get mixed up with romance, you make mistakes. I\u2019ve made a few myself, too.<\/p>\n

Woman:<\/strong> Mm-hmm.<\/p>\n

Jones:<\/strong> This girl I fell in love with, and fell in love with her so hard that it was\u2013 I\u2019d done anything for her, and then one day, we were on a haymound ride and uh, she got close to the petting, and she wanted me to do<\/em> something to her, but that time, I thought, a young man should be as virtuous as a young woman, so I had a (unintelligible). She went and uh, fucked my so-called best friend who\u2019d asked me to fuck him, and he come in the whole high school assembly, and I coulda died. Wish I coulda disappeared. And dropped her panties with her initials on my desk. (Pause) She later met\u2013 I think it was Jack Beam that was in there, I don\u2019t know who it was with me, she later met me on the street, was it\u2013 You\u2013 you were with me.<\/p>\n

Beam: <\/strong>Yes.<\/p>\n

Jones:<\/strong> (unintelligible word) met me on the street in Richmond, Indiana. She wanted to get warm<\/em> then. It was too late then. I\u2019d been called on to socialism. But it\u2013 uh\u2013 That pi\u2013 Don\u2019t think\u2013 Everybody\u2019s been rejected. I\u2019m glad I felt it. I\u2019m glad she did that to me. It opened doors to me like I never saw. People laughed at me and teased me and did that for three weeks, till I got out of that school. And, by getting out of that school, I got the job in Richmond High School, I moved from Lynn where this happened, to Richmond, and became the head of all the male nurses, and also the chief of oxygen therapy. I was so well trained at that time, they offered me \u2013 with only two years \u2013 to become a hospital administrator that normally takes seven. So I\u2019m glad it happened. But it liked to kill me when it did. We\u2019ll have this happen to us invariably, but sometime you\u2019ll fall in love with somebody or care about them, (unintelligible word) people grow out of their narcissism and out of their self-centeredness, that will care for you<\/em> in that same way<\/em>. Not if you\u2013 Uh\u2013 Usually life\u2013 Every\u2013 If it doesn\u2019t happen to you, you\u2013 It may have all\u2013 If it hasn\u2019t happened to you, it should. If\u2013 If\u2013 If you haven\u2019t had somebody you wanted that didn\u2019t want you, you have not grown up.<\/p>\n

Crowd:<\/strong> Right.<\/p>\n

Jones:<\/strong> I\u2019m telling ya. I guess all of you thought your\u2013 the guy you wanted or the woman you wanted, wanted you. Have you ever met now a guy or a woman you wanted that didn\u2019t want you?<\/p>\n

Crowd:<\/strong> Yes.<\/p>\n

Jones:<\/strong> Okay. And that isn\u2019t\u2013 He\u2019s concerned, though, that you be fair. He don\u2019t\u2013 He\u2013 He doesn\u2019t\u2013 He\u2019s fair with you. He\u2019s got nothing against you. He just don\u2019t want anything to do with that. See what I\u2019m saying?<\/p>\n

Walker:<\/strong> Mm-hmm.<\/p>\n

Jones:<\/strong> Now, I understand that, Bonnie. That\u2019s strength. That\u2019s leadership. You\u2013 And I understand you admire that, but from afar. He\u2019s pressed. Too many people pressure him now. Hear what I say? It\u2019s nothing against you personally. Okay. I don\u2019t know why you can\u2019t speak and say hello, but he has not wanted it. Just\u2013 You know, he just\u2013 burdened with me, always having to say hello. He may not hear<\/em> you. Or he may be\u2013 Or his mind preoccupied, but I\u2019m sure he\u2019ll try to say hello to her. Right.<\/p>\n

Scattered:<\/strong> Right.<\/p>\n

Jones:<\/strong> (unintelligible) Huh?<\/p>\n

Walker:<\/strong> I don\u2019t want to\u2013 I don\u2019t want to\u2013 I don\u2019t want to talk to him.<\/p>\n

Jones:<\/strong> You shouldn\u2019t feel that way. You\u2019re a comrade, you\u2019re under the same community. Now you\u2019re being belligerent<\/em> again, and you can\u2019t be an anarchist and be a communist. What do you mean, you can\u2019t say hello?<\/p>\n

Walker:<\/strong> I said\u2013 I didn\u2019t say I couldn\u2019t<\/em>, I said I don\u2019t want<\/em> to. Okay, I\u2019ll do it. I\u2019ll do it.<\/p>\n

Jones:<\/strong> Uh, that\u2019s good, that\u2019s good. Do it. Speak to everybody. That\u2019s what we\u2019re all supposed to, we\u2019re supposed to speak to everybody. If some don\u2019t speak back, and some of you ought to report them, and they don\u2019t<\/em>. They get no fight, report them when they don\u2019t. \u2018Cause some of \u2018em won\u2019t speak<\/em> back, I know they won\u2019t.<\/p>\n

Crowd:<\/strong> Right.<\/p>\n

Jones:<\/strong> But you did a good job with those seniors, and you did a good job in that medical, and write. I want to see that (unintelligible) I want to see her writing. If she can write, she can help very much with Dick Tropp, she can help very<\/em> much with Dick Tropp, but if we got a writer, and I remember some of her poetry that was very good.<\/p>\n
