Part I<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Jones:\u00a0<\/strong>What we want to get done is the youth to go there and I\u2013 Uh, how many of the youth are in the File Committee?<\/span><\/p>\n

Jones:\u00a0<\/strong>I\u2019d like to see a\u2013 a new program enhanced there as a model\u00a0<\/em>kind of city, model community, to make one of you the treasurer of that group. Turn all your income over that\u2013 over\u2013 over to\u00a0<\/em>the one treasurer, then decide what each one needs as good comrades for their minimal expenses. Then turn all that into the central fund and channel all your expenses through\u00a0<\/em>the central fund, so that we can see what one apostolic home can do. We have a lot of things to consider these times. We\u2019re a thinking people. I\u2019m reading a magazine and hear it from Africa, saying that Americans of every variety, the rich blacks are making investments in Africa, knowing what\u2019s ahead. Well, we should have something there. We have to carry on our work here, and we have to carry it on in the Bay Area. But we have to be prepared for every situation, and there\u2019re better\u00a0<\/em>ways to making money than we\u2019re doing. And it would be good for us to set up these cooperatives very soon. I\u2013 I was thinking that there\u2019s two lots down there. If we don\u2019t uh, find some emergency this election, we should undertake a\u00a0building\u00a0<\/em>program probably and bring people into a common community, make this the dining room during the day, so that all income could go into a central fund. And I can assure\u00a0<\/em>you, that if we would try this kind of work, we would amaze everyone what we could do.<\/span><\/p>\n

Voices in Congregation:\u00a0<\/strong>(Quietly) That\u2019s right. Amen. That\u2019s right. Amen.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jones:\u00a0<\/strong>You give structure for children, certainly, and structure for adults. At least let\u2019s make a good start over here in this home. Let\u2019s utilize every bed that can be utilized without hampering the fine workers that\u2019re going to make the project.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jones:\u00a0<\/strong>Un-hmm [Yes]. Well, I don\u2019t know\u2013 don\u2019t know (unintelligible phrase) and put, as I say, as many in as you can without hampering yourself, but really make a go\u00a0<\/em>with this. I don\u2019t know uh, what\u2019s your common feeling is about the treasurer back there of the group. How many are going in over there\u2013 uh, the youth\u2013 how many youth are going in?<\/span><\/p>\n

Jones:\u00a0<\/strong>Yes, you oughtta be over there, Judy, if you can. (unintelligible word) Oughtta be with\u2013 oughtta be able to have some way to do more than that. Can we get some others that are free to try this and put some income into this situation and some cooperation building that\u2013 finishing that file room off. (Pause) Very well. (Pause) Uh, it is my\u00a0<\/em>suggestion that you decide on a treasurer amongst yourself\u2013 amongst yourselves and let me know tonight who it is. If I don\u2019t approve\u2013 I can\u2019t imagine that happening, but if I don\u2019t, I\u2019ll let you know. But the best budgetarian, the one that\u2019ll be the most careful, get\u2013 get right now. Get st\u2013 let\u2019s get started, \u2018cause if we put our combined income\u2013 What does your combined income represent there? Now, the few that are in it already.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jones:\u00a0<\/strong>Um-hmm. (Pause) And of course, you\u2019ve got driving expenses. work expenses, (clears throat) but I\u2019d like to see you set an example for the rest for this\u2013 this\u2013 this family. By cutting cost to the\u2013 the barest to show what we\u2019re going to have to do. (Pause) I wish we right now had a million dollars in Africa. You say, well, you talk about here and you talk about it there. Well, you gotta s\u2013 you got to have\u00a0<\/em>businesses like that before you can\u00a0do\u00a0<\/em>anything anyplace else. You\u2019ve got to have a financial base. We\u2019ve got some money that is in readiness for such an endeavor. (Pause) I would like also tonight in the matter of business, the Mill College, saying (unintelligible word)\u2013<\/span><\/p>\n

Jones:\u00a0<\/strong>Mills College is planning a trip to Africa. Behind it some of this planning is\u2013 it\u2019s in January, 28 days. And I think we need to have some to go, if I cannot go myself. I don\u2019t know uh, who\u2019ll go. We\u2019ll\u2013 we not decide that tonight in a minute. I think we need to ma\u2013 we make\u2013 it\u2019s a 28-day trip for around 600 dollars, and it\u2019s not enough to talk about any tr\u2013 any pleasure trip. We\u2019re talking about someone to go over there and see\u2013 There\u2019re three or four countries being visited during that 28 days. And I think we oughtta plan as a church to have some representatives to go. Let\u2019s be thinking ahead. You\u2019ll be guests in African homes, and uh, you\u2019ll learn the habitat, the lifestyle of each of these countries. You\u2019ll be right in contact with the mainstream of the people, and certainly we want to make that on our agenda. And uh, someone from San Francisco, one of the secretaries should see me to pursue more information on that trip tonight. Is any of the secretaries here? I didn\u2019t uh\u2013 I didn\u2019t notice\u00a0any\u00a0<\/em>secretary. Hm? Leona [Collier]? Yeah, good, well, it\u2019s good to have her\u00a0<\/em>home.<\/span><\/p>\n

Congregation:\u00a0<\/strong>Applause.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jones:\u00a0<\/strong>Good to have her\u00a0<\/em>home. (Pause) She didn\u2019t want us to bother her while she was there. She didn\u2019t want us to take our time to do\u00a0<\/em>so, which was tremendous dedication. But we\u2013 we\u2019re so tempted so many times to do so many things in her direction, but she was adamant about that. So we\u2019re glad to see her here in the assembly. Well, what we want to know is something about Mills College program to Africa January 1 to twenty-eighth, I think. Tonight we will take our offering, I think, at this\u2013 at this particular junction. We have run into another opportunity in the Bay Area on this building. We can get the mortgage, but it\u2019ll require a little bit more cash if we move. We can buy out from under the realtors, and get the building for just what\u2019s owed\u00a0<\/em>on it, which is about half what the people paid\u00a0<\/em>for it. And so we\u2013 we\u2019re forced\u00a0<\/em>to take that kind of an opportunity. Certainly don\u2019t want to pay 150,000 for a building, when you can pay 90,000\u00a0<\/em>for a building, and a building at 90,000, if we can get it, that would uh, seat all of our people, and we\u2019ll build a community there. You that are vol\u2013 we have those already that are volunteering to live in the apartment of this building that we\u2019re negotiating in San Francisco, and to convert other rooms to make it a commune of the same type of thing, a common treasure. Jane Mutschmann, I remember, uh, Lorraine Smith, (unintelligible first name) Flowers, Sheila, Bea Morton, to name some that are wi\u2013 willing to go together. It\u2019s vital\u00a0<\/em>that we do it. (Pause) And I got some of the minutes of the caucus of the Democrat convention today, and it made me rather disturbed\u00a0<\/em>to see how many of our own people\u00a0<\/em>even sell us out. (Pause) Our own leaders, how they sell us out, every one, practically. The only one that didn\u2019t sell out\u2013 it wasn\u2019t a sell-out in the actual process of the convention, according to this writer, a white writer, was [U.S. Rep. Ron] Dellums. But even he\u2013 they weren\u2019t\u2013 they weren\u2019t too sure what he was doing behind the scenes. Doesn\u2019t make one too happy. What I\u2019m saying in so many words, if we don\u2019t look after ourselves, then nobody going to look after us.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jones:\u00a0<\/strong>Now what I want you to do is to stand up, each of you, and tell what you\u2019re going to give right now.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jones:\u00a0<\/strong>But pretty generally it\u2019s a blanchee, and when I say blanchee, that means white, or Prayto [phonetic], that means white and uh, Honkey or Mickey Mouse, or something else, you know. Old Faye, Charlie, (chuckles) the Man. I\u2013 I ca\u2013 I want to have peace\u00a0<\/em>when I come to the assembly tonight. I don\u2019t want to see folk I\u2019ve been looking at. They\u2019ve been putting their boot on the neck of people that\u2019ve been poor, or poor whites, black or brown. I don\u2019t want to see them. I don\u2019t want to see them. There\u2019s no respect of persons in God, and I don\u2019t want to see people that are prejudiced when I gather together.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jones:\u00a0<\/strong>I don\u2019t\u2013 Now you be sure you get\u2013 you get us to understand what you\u2019re doing when you bring people here. If there\u2019s somebody wants to vouch for any\u2013 any honkey, you do\u00a0<\/em>so. You vouch for him right now, and we\u2019ll receive him. You vouch for them that they will let my black son [Jim Jones Jr.] grow up and marry their daughter,\u00a0<\/em>if he wants to. He\u2019ll probably won\u2019t. I want you to vouch for \u2018em, and then we\u2019ll let \u2018em in<\/em>. Until I know something about them, we\u2019re not letting \u2018em in. You understand that? You make that quite clear. One thing about us, we\u2019re not poor niggers over here. We\u2019ve got enough to make us get along, we don\u2019t need any honkeys offering unless they\u2019re one of us.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jones:\u00a0<\/strong>Says you cannot love God whom you have not seen. You love not your brother whom you have seen. And God\u2019s no respecter of person. Out of one blood made all nations to dwell on the face of the earth. That means together. That means for the blood to flow together, and for them to integrate\u00a0<\/em>and amalgamate and assimilate\u2013 assimilate all\u00a0<\/em>the characteristics of every group. And I want to find out where people are. When you come in here with anybody that is of light complexion. I want to know who\u00a0<\/em>they are. Some of them here they uh, uh, they just want a little nookie, and uh, bald on the top. (Pause)See, at times you pray\u2013 When you\u2019re\u2013 When you\u2019re a prophet, you see too much.<\/span><\/p>\n

Now what we\u2019re saying is in so many words, darling, is there\u2019s some black folk here got some white folks out there, and those white folks are out there until the black folks stand up and tell us who you\u00a0<\/em>are. And when we find out you\u2019re free, then we\u2019ll let your white folks in.<\/span><\/p>\n

And, if you know something about her, we want to know something about you<\/em>. Jones:\u00a0<\/strong>I truly say this, and I mean this. We\u2019re\u2013 Everyone\u2019s welcomed here that loves all people. And we don\u2019t know anybody that loves all people, unless you make better record of their testimony. I don\u2019t want to have to discern their situation. I don\u2019t want to have to discern their situation. You let me know. I\u2019m saying\u2013 anybody want to claim that\u2013 that light-complected sister to the right. She was standing there a while ago, till I sing \u201cBy and By When the Morning Comes.\u201d Now if anybody here wants to claim\u00a0<\/em>her, then we\u2019ll\u2013 we\u2019ll go over there and convert her on her own<\/em>, but if anybody wants to claim her\u2013 Now she\u2019s supposed to be here with some black\u00a0<\/em>people. No black people got a white folk out there that\u2019s lost.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jones:\u00a0<\/strong>S\u2019all right, that\u2019s what\u2013 That\u2019s right. Mighty God. Well, if she says what she\u2013 uh, she don\u2019t know where she\u2019s at, and you don\u2019t know where she\u2019s at, and Love Life don\u2019t know where she\u2019s at either. But it\u2019s all right anyway, Love Life. (Pause) I read some of the ridiculous schemes uh, afoot this afternoon, some communiques that are not readily available to other people, uh, to harm my little ones not here particularly, but all my black and precious golden brown and yellow little\u00a0<\/em>ones. And I read too many schemes<\/em>, (Pause) and I\u2019m tired of the insensitivity to\u2013 to our people. And I\u2019m opening up this ark to those that are truly niggers<\/em>, in the sense that they have become identified with the suffering of all\u00a0<\/em>fellow men. If you are not identifying, if you feel that you\u2019re somebody, then you\u2019re nobody here.<\/span><\/p>\n

Congregation:\u00a0<\/strong>Scattered calls.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jones:\u00a0<\/strong>And if you think you know something, you don\u2019t know anything like you ought to know it. And if you feel like you\u2019re content in what you have, you\u2019re in the wrong place. Because there\u2019re people that\u2019re suffering, they\u2019re all around this land today. And we want only the people here that are touched\u00a0<\/em>by the feeling\u00a0<\/em>of their brothers\u2019 and sisters\u2019 infirmities. And that word means\u2013 that\u2013 that one of the words we\u2019re using in a good\u00a0<\/em>sense. We\u2019re\u2013 I\u2019m making a conversion\u00a0<\/em>of the word \u201cNigger.\u201d It means the oppression that\u2019s around us. I\u2019m converting\u00a0<\/em>that word. See, God can convert a word if he chooses<\/em>. He can use the words that pleases him. God is God<\/em>, you have said. And if you didn\u2019t\u00a0<\/em>say it, he is.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jones:\u00a0<\/strong>If I\u2019m privileged\u00a0<\/em>or allowed by you to raise the dead, if you permit\u00a0<\/em>me, as you did last Sunday to raise the dead, and to heal every known disease and the cancers to be spit up all around us, and a man crippled by a truck, he couldn\u2019t move his hand, to be relieved\u00a0<\/em>of pain so he could move\u00a0<\/em>his hand. If you permit me to do that, if you permit me to stop\u00a0<\/em>the accidents, stop people by two\u00a0<\/em>minutes from being run all over the highway with seven or nine people laying dead, if I\u2019m permitted\u00a0<\/em>to do that, then I\u2019m permitted to take a word that I wish to use, and make it for a good purpose, even though you\u2019ve known if for a bad purpose. I\u2019ll take that word and use it as it pleases\u00a0<\/em>me.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jones:\u00a0<\/strong>It\u2019s sweet. Now we\u2019re\u2013 we\u2019re\u2013 Did we pass those plates of offerings? Did they all get passed? Did everybody get their offering in it? As quickly as they might? Now just here a breather of last Mon\u2013 uh, Sunday morning sermon. Everybody, give us\u2013 all the change you can, will you please? (Pause) Now I\u2013 I knew\u00a0<\/em>I had a reason to stop these folk. I<\/em>don\u2019t want no Jehovah Witnesses in here. I just broke\u2013 I just broke\u2013 I just broke this wi\u2013 spell of witchcraft on this woman that was put on by a Jehovah Witness. I knew\u00a0<\/em>what I was doing.<\/span><\/p>\n

Voice in Congregation:\u00a0<\/strong>That\u2019s right.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jones:\u00a0<\/strong>When I get indignant, I got reason\u00a0<\/em>to be indignant. Move on out, but in this Spirit and consciousness, no matter what you feel, you know that God is ever-present, (moderates slowly) and is temperate and moderate, and that moderation will solve every problem. (Pause) (Quiet) Very well. And the honesty is, I\u2019ll do it during an offering, but the truth is the truth. If you\u2019ve got enough principle you won\u2019t be bothered by this\u00a0<\/em>heat. I\u2019ve been in the hot\u2013 the hottest places of the Amazon area. And I did not get concerned about the heat, and I\u2019ve been in the coldest places of the world<\/em>, and did not get concerned about the intemperance of the cold<\/em>, without\u2013 with nothing but a shirt on. And I\u2019ve taken that cancer and learned how to speak through my own chest, and to project words through my mouth without the o\u2013 usual instruments that you have. You can stay alive\u00a0<\/em>when there\u2019s no way to stay alive, but through the Spirit of universal God, good socialism, you can find a way\u00a0<\/em>when you\u2019re sick to rise up and say (calls out) I am well.<\/span><\/p>\n

And then there was another Sister Price, how beautiful it was, she uh\u2013 she spoke that uh, meeting, I called her out a year ago, told her to go to a doctor, that what she had been told by the doctor was wrong, that when she went back, she\u2019d find it was not so, and so she did, and then, exactly as it was spoken, that was the case. She\u2019s probably in the room someplace now. Yes. Bless you. And so it was, that when she went back, the doctor said, \u201cWell, you don\u2019t have\u00a0<\/em>what I thought\u2013 Heart trouble, the heart trouble is not there.\u201d Now some today I come to in that manner, and they receive me, as the one there did, and receive me in faith and know that I have come in the name of Jesus, in the name of God, all of the great supreme bon homme ideals. And thus what happens when you do? You reincarnate the same spirit. Others I came to today in love, and they were unfriendly, they were cold and indifferent. When I gave them an offer of help, they would not receive it, and even lied to me. I may not act like I know what\u2019s going on in you, but I know what\u2019s going on in you.<\/span><\/p>\n

Some of it often has been portrayed by the media and by man and his traditions and the system and Mickey Mouse has been portraying something that you could never identify with. And so when he came, he came to his own and his own received him not. But I\u2019m not going to uh, start lying\u00a0<\/em>to you, just because you\u2019re not ready to accept\u00a0<\/em>the facts\u00a0<\/em>of the matter<\/em>. I said, I came down and I healed them. You\u2019ve seen them in their wheelchairs here, when their bones were like pretzels, turned and crippled. You\u2019ve seen them bent over, and you\u2019ve seen them raised. You\u2019ve seen the blind eyes. As one sister lot\u2013 long ago on the aisle, right down in the front, right here in Los Angeles, just a few weeks ago, blind from birth. You have seen\u00a0<\/em>that, and I said I healed\u00a0<\/em>her. And you say, give God the glory. And I said I just did<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n

People disagree with me on matters of the temporal and earthly things. We have a very good interchange and exchange of views. Jones:\u00a0<\/strong>And so the people, as we came down the bus\u2013 down the bus route, they were not surprised to see the skies clear and the beautiful wind that blowed away the smog. Never has<\/em> been smog up until this time. In all these long periods of months and months that we\u2019ve come, not once has there been smog when we\u2019ve been here. Now do you think that somebody representing something can do that? Somebody has to be in contact with the laws and cosmic forces of nature<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jones:\u00a0<\/strong>Someone has to be in harmony with everything that is created. I would be glad to tell you that it is not so, because it\u2019s a great responsibility, and it causes great wrath\u00a0<\/em>and persecution<\/em>. But I\u2019m not here to tell you I\u2019m representing anything. I\u2019m here to tell you I am\u00a0<\/em>that something.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jones:\u00a0<\/strong>And when you\u2019re able to receive it, as you heard the sister\u2013 that Sister Reverend Davis, the Pentecostal ministry that just testified. She said I looked out on the ocean, along with others, and she looked out there and then in Mexico where we took our vacations together, and in Canada where we took our vacations together. We always do\u00a0<\/em>that, because I am one with you. There I sit and here you\u00a0<\/em>stand. We are one. We are in the creative nature of God \u2013 (aside) It\u2019s all right. I don\u2019t need it, thank you. Very sweet of you. (Returns to congregation) We are one\u00a0<\/em>spirit. We\u2019re not going to be uh\u2013 we\u2019re not going to be divided. The pure hearts\u2013 blessed are the pure in heart, for they see\u00a0<\/em>God.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jones:\u00a0<\/strong>We came down to Mexico, and some have never had a vacation. Every year I take our people on a vacation. They\u2013 They\u2019d never seen a vacation, never been in the ocean. And the sharks\u00a0<\/em>were everywhere. Just\u2013 Shhh! Just as rampant as they could be, floating up and down, right up near the shore. Almost as if it seemed they were right in the sand. Just taking over the whole beach. And I said, this cannot be. And so a little bit later, people looked out and they saw me out on the water.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jones:\u00a0<\/strong>I did not\u2013 I did not personally\u00a0<\/em>use any kind of raft or device \u2013 I did not need\u00a0<\/em>to \u2013 because I was so deeply\u00a0<\/em>in love with my people at that moment, and they so deeply believed\u00a0<\/em>in what I am<\/em>\u2013 and that\u2019s the key \u2013 that I was able to go out on the waters, and people saw me literally walking out on the water above the ocean waves, above the surf. I lie not. I tell you the truth. Those that you just heard, you heard Reverend Davis say it, it\u2019s the truth.<\/span><\/p>\n

Congregation:\u00a0<\/strong>Applause.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jones:\u00a0<\/strong>And our people can tell you that there were no sharks. There were no sharks all\u00a0<\/em>those three days. They stayed completely away until we left. And after we were packing up the camp and beginning to roll our buses away and packing our tents and our knapsacks, they came back, almost as if it were to say farewell, until we see you again.<\/span><\/p>\n

Congregation:\u00a0<\/strong>Applause.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jones:\u00a0<\/strong>There are some in this audience that not prepared to see\u00a0<\/em>that kind of a manifestation. That\u2019s perfectly all right. You\u2019ll keep waiting, and you\u2019ll wait till you\u2019re sixty or seventy, and die, \u2018cause you have to have it in that way. You\u2019ve got to die to go to heaven, to stand before a throne and see Jesus. That\u2019s what you\u2019ve been taught, that\u2019s what you wish to believe. And I\u2019m not going to argue with you, I\u2019m not going to struggle with you, because if you wish to die and go to heaven to see Jesus, that\u2019s your privilege. But to those that want to hear the word of God and live, he said (calls out) blessed are the pure in heart.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jones:\u00a0<\/strong>(Calls out) Didn\u2019t say tomorrow, but he said, blessed\u00a0<\/em>are the pure\u00a0<\/em>in heart, for they shall see\u00a0<\/em>God. And they shall know\u00a0<\/em>their God and do exploits. (calms) Jesus said all things may change but Jesus never. I\u2019m the same today, yesterday, and forever, the God that changeth\u00a0<\/em>not. He said, Lo, I am with you always even unto the end of the world. I will never leave you. I will never forsake you, not even unto the end of the world. That\u2019s what he said. And if he\u2019d left you, he\u2019s a liar<\/em>. If there\u2019s ever been a time that Jesus hasn\u2019t had a body, he was a liar, because he said I\u00a0<\/em>will never leave you\u00a0<\/em>and I <\/em>will never forsake\u00a0<\/em>you, not even unto the end of the world.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jones:\u00a0<\/strong>Solomon looked out and saw him, and said his hair was as black as a raven. Described his own personal body, and said he had hair as black as a razor [raven]. Isaiah 7:20 said in the last days, he would come and God would manifest himself. And said God would s\u2013 after that day, shave\u00a0<\/em>with a razor just like you. He said in that day, God\u00a0<\/em>said. God, the body of God would shave with a razor. Don\u2019t think it\u2019s in the scripture? Don\u2019t look so puzzled, Sister. Isaiah 7:20\u2013 Isaiah 7:20 says, after that day God\u00a0<\/em>will shave with a razor. Don\u2019t u\u2013 don\u2019t\u2013 don\u2019t question it until you read\u00a0<\/em>it. Ahab saw him, (unintelligible) saw him, Moab saw him. Manoah and his wife saw him. Nebuchadnezzar \u2013 a evil racist king \u2013 saw him open the furnace door and looked and he said, \u201cI put three in there and now I see one as is two, the form of the son of God.\u201d He said I put three in there, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego,and now I see Jesus Christ in there.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jones:\u00a0<\/strong>(full preaching mode) Do you think blessed, blessed black people, blessed Jewish people, blessed poor people, blessed white, the poorest of God\u2019s creation, that\u2019ve suffered so much, that you\u2019ve given up so much, do you think an old evil king Nebuchadnezzar is going to have the privilege of seeing Jesus Christ, and you\u2019re not going to be able to have that same privilege? Do you think that Solomon is going to be able to look out with all of his regal spender, and all of his wealth, and all of his kingly estate, do you think Solomon\u2019s going to be able to look out and say, I saw God, I met God today, and his hair is as black as a raven. Do you think that God is going to do something for an old king Nebuchadnezzar that he\u2019s not going to do for you? No, if you\u2019ve got a spiritual eye, you\u2019ll open them this morning, you\u2019ll open them this afternoon and (cries out) you will see God.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jones:\u00a0<\/strong>(Calms) You say I\u2019m afraid. Man wanted you to stay afraid. The systems wanted you to stay afraid, because these piker representatives up and down the streets, they want to be able to represent God. Know nothing, can\u2019t heal the sick, can\u2019t discern a spirit, can never tell you what\u2019s in the thoughts of the mind. Every week, every day, I tell you the intents of the heart, tell you your thoughts, go back to the time you were born, as we did with one sister last night, healed her of cancer, pain went away instantly.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jones:\u00a0<\/strong>You want to be represented by the real<\/em>, or you want somebody that says, I\u2019m telling you a history\u00a0<\/em>book? I\u2019m going to give you a story<\/em>. I\u2019m going to tell you what\u2019s going to be<\/em>, and they never give you any proof that they know anything<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jones:\u00a0<\/strong>They tell you that Jesus is getting ready to come soon, and outside they got a Cadillac parked in the space, or they\u2019ve got a Lincoln Continental or a Rolls Royce, and after the service is over, those preachers that say they\u2019re representing God, they go driving off to the bu\u2013 the hills\u00a0<\/em>someplace, to Beverly [Hills] or something beyond that now, way above the smog. And they say Jesus\u00a0<\/em>is coming soon. You don\u2019t have any proof. They don\u2019t act like Jesus is coming soon, \u2018cause they\u2019re gettin\u2019 more money and gettin\u2019 more clothes. The robe I have on is just a used robe, given to me this weekend. I don\u2019t have any new clothes, never buy any. Don\u2019t own a car, never bought a new pair of shoes in my born days. And I\u2019m nearly a great grandfather, I\u2019m a grandfather, won\u2019t be too long before I\u2019ll be a great grandfather. Never have I ever bought a new pair of shoes. I tell you nothing about Jesus\u2019 coming, I tell you that God is here, Christ is in\u00a0you<\/em>, the hope of glory.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jones:\u00a0<\/strong>(inaudible side conversation with Marceline Jones, return to congregation) So at least\u00a0<\/em>you oughtta be someplace where, if they tell you Jesus is coming, if Jesus is coming, what does a preacher need with a Cadillac and a Rolls Royce?<\/span><\/p>\n

Jones:\u00a0<\/strong>What\u2019s you need with all that stuff? He tell you, he\u2019s coming soon. And they tell you to give your money and give your money, and they come dressing up in the finest suits and the best clothes, and drum\u2013 drum up all the money, so that they can have nicer homes. One of the homes of a preacher in San Francisco in the Bay Area, one of these holiness preachers, he\u2019s got 50,000 dollars\u2019 worth of antiques, came out just recently. Fifty thousand dollars antiques \u2013 he mentioned on his radio broadcast \u2013 50,000 dollars\u2019 worth of antiques, said God had blessed him with. What do you need with antiques if you\u2019re going to see Jesus?<\/span><\/p>\n

Congregation:\u00a0<\/strong>Laughter and applause.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jones:\u00a0<\/strong>Yeah\u2013 See, they lie\u00a0<\/em>to you. And I tell you the truth, and you\u2019re so used to hearing the lie, that you can\u2019t believe\u00a0<\/em>it. What reason would I have to tell this? Because I\u2019ve been\u2013 that\u2019s why everybody\u2019s persecuting me, because I tell the truth. And the\u2013 the good scriptures tell you that they live in that principle, godly in Christ Jesus, they will suffer persecution. They say, all manner of things falsely against him for their namesake, \u00a0persecute them, revile them, deliver them before the council, the synagogues, and even finally kill them, thinking they do God a service. Surely\u00a0<\/em>we\u2019re getting all this storm because I declare the truth. And who wants to tell the truth, other than the truth demands that it be told. I don\u2019t like the responsibility of being what I am, but I am what I am. I am what I am.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jones:\u00a0<\/strong>And the fruits\u00a0<\/em>of my work show\u00a0<\/em>what I am, and the fruits of those that tell you Jesus is coming soon<\/em>, show you that they\u2019re liars. Because if Jesus was coming soon, they would do like I<\/em>do. They would adopt, as I have, seven babies and reared thirteen. They would take in every stranger, they would ease the heavy burdens on everyone\u2019s back. They would never tur\u2013 turn away a senior citizen. And I never do, not a one I don\u2019t take in. There\u2019s not a person in prison, I don\u2019t re\u2013 go and rescue, or attempt to. I minister to everyone in jails or out of jails, wherever they are. I send my workers, my ambassadors, my emissaries. There\u2019s never\u2013 never a time when we\u2019ve said there\u2019s no more room in Redwood Valley. Never. We always find a way to squeeze a youngster in, particularly. Never turn away a child. Because we believe that Jesus is not\u00a0<\/em>coming soon. He has arrived.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jones:\u00a0<\/strong>But you say, those that believe he\u2019s coming soon, they ought to act that much more<\/em>, if he\u2019s really coming soon. They ought to act like it in deeds and actions and do the work of the people, instead of taking the money for houses and lands and fine clothes and jewelry. I do not own a watch, I do not own any jewelry. I do not even own a wedding band. The one that I had was a stone of offence to someone. It cost one dollar and ninety-eight cents, and I gave it up, because it bothered someone. And if it\u2013 anything on me tonight bothers you, I\u2019ll take this\u00a0<\/em>off, but remember, this was used, as I said. These things here were just given. But if they bother you, I\u2019ll take them off. If it bothered enough, I would come in gunny sacks, because I wish you to see Christ. And I would be glad to tell you that I\u2019m the other\u00a0<\/em>fellow, but that would be terrible because then you wouldn\u2019t have faith to have any great works\u00a0<\/em>done. I\u2019d be glad to say I\u2019m nothing, but if you see\u00a0<\/em>me as nothing, you\u00a0<\/em>will register a great big fat zero.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jones:\u00a0<\/strong>If I tell you I\u2019m nothing \u2013 I\u2019ll be glad to do that \u2013 but you\u2019ll\u00a0<\/em>be nothing. But if I tell you what I am, then you can be what I am, and if you take a picture\u00a0<\/em>of what I am, you can become (calls out) greater\u00a0<\/em>than what I am, because that\u2019s the nature of God. He said these things shall you do and greater, because I go to the Father. That\u2019s the nature of God every time he comes on the scene. This is a greater day in Jesus. Jesus said\u00a0<\/em>it was. He said these things shall you do and greater, because I go to the Father. \u00a0And so it is with me. Take a picture of me \u2013 and I hope you will \u2013 take cognizance of my teachings, reproduce\u00a0<\/em>my spirit, and you\u2019ll become greater than what I am. That\u2019s my ambition\u00a0<\/em>for you. If I told you I was nothing, I would not only be a liar, but I would deprive you of liberty. I\u2019m telling you, that I am that which was and is\u00a0<\/em>to come. I am <\/em>the Alpha, I am\u00a0<\/em>the Omega, I am the Beginning, I am the End.<\/span><\/p>\n

(Conversational) I do not often write, but occasionally I do, and I put this [The Letter Killeth<\/a><\/em>]<\/span> together for honest\u00a0<\/em>people that want to know the truth. You\u2019re going to have to have the truth, or you won\u2019t be set free. Without the truth, you are finished. Now you see, even though I will not be personally taking anything from this offering\u2013 It\u2019ll all go for our children, our beautiful children\u2019s home on 40 acres that we\u2019re paying for monthly, or our senior citizens homes, four of them, or our convalescent homes that are the most beautiful places you ever wanted to see.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jones:\u00a0<\/strong>And our four college dormitories, and 109 students that are being educated, or 200 children that we gave shoes, that were starving, that had no food until I fed them in an orphanage. Yet I\u2019m not taking any offering yet. I\u2019m giving you the truth\u00a0<\/em>first because I want you to\u00a0know\u00a0<\/em>what you\u2019re supporting. I will not ever<\/em>\u2013 (Tape edit, slight repetition) I\u2019m giving you the truth\u00a0<\/em>first because I want you to know\u00a0<\/em>what you\u2019re supporting. I will not ever\u00a0<\/em>give you a misrepresentation. No one can ever say I\u2019ve ever lied to them. I\u2019m not a liar, I\u2019m a truth bearer. It\u2019s a truth that\u2019ll never fail you. It\u2019s hard sayings, because sometimes I\u2019ll tell you strong sayings. You come to my Wednesday night meetings in the church government meetings, some of you oughtta make a purpose to uh\u2013 Thanksgiving, by the way, we\u2019re having a great rally up in Redwood Valley, and we want Los Angeles to try to make a trip so they could get up there Wednesday night, some of you. And be\u2013 on Wednesday evening before\u00a0<\/em>Thanksgiving, to be in the government\u00a0<\/em>meetings, because there you\u2019ve seen a different kind of administration than you\u2019ll see at any other time. Only\u00a0<\/em>members are permitted to come to that meeting. And we hope\u00a0<\/em>that the Temple family will come up\u00a0<\/em>for Thanksgiving. We\u2019re going to have a lovely weekend on Thanksgiving, Wednesday night, Thursday, and Friday, and we\u2019ll come back Friday night to San Francisco and back here Saturday and Sunday. And you\u2019ll have free housing, good food. I\u2019ll guarantee you\u2013 you\u2013 we won\u2019t tell you have to wait to sit around the holy communion table, you won\u2019t have to wait to feast on the manna up in heaven in a pearly white city. I\u2019ll tell you, you\u2019ll eat\u00a0<\/em>when you come to Redwood Valley on Thanksgiving. Without money or price.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jones:\u00a0<\/strong>Last holidays, we had so many people they run out of meat<\/em>. (Pause) This is the truth. May a lightning bolt strike me dead. May the (short laugh) breath that I breathe cease<\/em>\u2013 How many know this to be the truth? \u2013 that the meat run out, and I said, there shall be bread\u00a0<\/em>and meat\u00a0<\/em>on my table of plenty. And they went back and great big roasts were sitting. (Cries out) Oh God, my God.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jones:\u00a0<\/strong>(Excitedly) Great big beautiful\u00a0<\/em>roasts that looked like they had been planned in a vision, were sitting on the cabinet, filled from one end to the other. Roasts were sitting\u00a0<\/em>there, just as I said\u00a0<\/em>it would be. There would be meat a-plenty on my father\u2019s table.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jones:\u00a0<\/strong>(Moderates) And we ate, and there was meat till the last person wished to have food to eat. And that\u2019s the beauty\u2013<\/span><\/p>\n

Jones:\u00a0<\/strong>\u2013that\u2019s the beauty, that\u2019s the beauty of living in heaven now.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jones:\u00a0<\/strong>Say, what are you doing? You\u2019re taking people\u2019s hope\u00a0<\/em>away. No, I\u2019m coming to expose you that\u2019ve told them to wait<\/em>. I\u2019ve come to expose you devils<\/em>, you charlatans that\u2019ve told them, you that\u2013 shenanigans you\u2019ve preached, you told them to wait, and you took their money and you drive around in Cadillacs, and you belong to the finest yacht clubs, and you\u2019ve got fine boats, you\u2019ve got fine suits<\/em>. Oh, I\u2019ve come to expose\u00a0<\/em>you. I\u2019ve come to tell you\u00a0<\/em>what you are. You are liars\u00a0<\/em>from the beginning. My people have no food<\/em>, they have no housing<\/em>, they live under the boot of racism. They\u2019re not free<\/em>. They live under subjugation, they live under discrimination, and you\u2019ve told them to wait\u00a0<\/em>while you take their money and drive Cadillacs. (cries out) You\u2019re the liar! I have come to give them what they deserve.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jones:\u00a0<\/strong>While people are living in this country and having gout from eating too much meat, and uric acid problems from overabundance of food, and cholesterol, dying from too many of the sweets of life. In America, Indians and blacks\u2013 Some in this\u00a0room\u00a0<\/em>before they came, some, as my son who stood and told you he was starving to death. You missed\u00a0<\/em>that, my young son. The one of my old\u2013 my oldest adopted son, Lew Jones. He was starving\u00a0<\/em>when I got him, because people were going around telling him, by and by, when Jesus\u00a0<\/em>comes, things will get better.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jones:\u00a0<\/strong>People in this room that never had a hope\u00a0<\/em>for a home. Now every member in this family, you will not be without a home. I have come pledging you that. That you will always have a home, that you will always have food<\/em>, you will eat as long as I eat, and I intend to eat awhile yet.<\/span><\/p>\n

You\u2019ve always\u2013 Ever since I was a child, they\u2019ve been saying it\u2019s going to come soon, he\u2019s coming soon, he\u2019s coming soon. (Voice climbs) You\u2019ve always been giving them that lie. And we\u2019ve got more racism today, we\u2019ve got more heartache today, we\u2019ve got more poverty today, more homeless senior citizens than ever before, more hungry children, two out of three going to bed hungry every day, white, black, and yellow. And you keep telling them to wait? I say we shall wait no longer. (Calls out)Today is the day of salvation.<\/span><\/p>\n

You that come along\u2013 The only reason I\u2019m here today is because a king of England took the holy writ and misinterpreted the holy writ, took the words of God that I have always spoken in purity and justice, took\u00a0<\/em>the words that has been spoken by this spirit, the same spirit that is here since the beginning, the same spirit was there, the same spirit that is here today in Los Angeles at Alvarado and Hoover, is the spirit that said, let there be light and let there be dry land, the same spirit that was there when the (cries out) morning\u00a0<\/em>star sang together is here right\u00a0<\/em>now addressing you.<\/span><\/p>\n

King James of England, a drunken alcoholic, took eighty other drunks like him and wrote the last interpretation of the Bible called the King James Version. Now you sit in now. You\u2019re gonna get a little preachin\u2019\u00a0<\/em>before you get healed, and if you get what I\u2019m saying, you will\u00a0<\/em>get healed. (Voice climbs) When you go out of here, if you get what I am saying, you will not be dead\u00a0<\/em>any longer, but you will be (cries) alive. Child, I could walk out of here, and I could be in Redwood Valley tomorrow, if I needed to without any benefit of an automobile. (Voice builds) So I\u2019m not worrying\u00a0<\/em>about keeping Cadillacs. You see, I\u2019m in the place of pure\u00a0spirit<\/em>. Scripture speaks of this. There are truths\u00a0<\/em>in the scripture, but it says how can you hear without a prophet or a preacher, and how can he preach lest he be sent. It said faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God. It didn\u2019t say faith cometh by reading the Bible and (Calms) faith cometh by hearing the King James Version. But it said faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God. Well, you say, what is<\/em>the word of God? (Pause)<\/span><\/p>\n

Jones:\u00a0<\/strong>Just watch if somebody dies, as they have 52 times this year, see\u00a0<\/em>what the word does. What is the word of God? Hebrews 4:12. It\u2019s a little misinterpreted, but it is reasonably accurate. Hebrews 4:12 says that the word of God will do what? It\u2019s sharper than a two-edged sword. Already you\u2019ve felt its sharpness. It\u2019ll cut away your old foggy prejudices. It says it\u2019s sharper\u00a0<\/em>than a two-edged sword. It\u2019s mighty to the pulling down of strongholds, it\u2019s quick\u00a0<\/em>and it\u2019s powerful. It\u2019ll separate the bone\u00a0<\/em>from the marrow, that it did last night and last week. A woman with four inches leg shorter than the other, and a moment\u2013 in the moment that I touched her, her leg came out and she was normal (unintelligible word)<\/span><\/p>\n

Jones:\u00a0<\/strong>Hebrews 4:12 said that the word of God is quick\u00a0<\/em>and powerful. It will separate soul\u00a0<\/em>from spirit. Three people stood up in one of our meetings not long ago and rebuked\u00a0<\/em>and touched\u00a0<\/em>the anointed. They lied to me. (Pause)<\/span><\/p>\n

Jones:\u00a0<\/strong>I went by a young man today<\/em>, that he better watch himself, because he\u2019s in here criticizing my spirit, and I\u2019m trying to give him love. I<\/em>know all about his nature. I know about his attitudes. I know about his feeling of threatening and insecurity, he wants to turn me off, because he wants to hold on to something he doesn\u2019t have to deal with. He didn\u2019t want to have to face\u00a0<\/em>me, head away, he wants to hold on to some little old guru. \u00a0(Pause)<\/span><\/p>\n

Jones:\u00a0<\/strong>He wants to hold on to some little old phony guru that\u2019s using up the people\u2019s money, while people in India starve. He wants to hold on to that, because it\u2019s easier\u00a0<\/em>to go that way. But I got his number, and I want to love him and want to take him in as a child and care and show him the way to salvation, but he\u2019s on dangerous ground.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jones:\u00a0<\/strong>\u2018Cause I\u2019m aware of what you do. I\u2019m aware when you speak\u00a0<\/em>or when you think. Nobody tells me anything as a person. I don\u2019t have\u00a0<\/em>to. I ask them not\u00a0<\/em>to. Someone just came up a while ago, wanted to tell me something. No, just wait. Just wait. The spirit\u2019ll take care of it. If it\u2019s their day, if they know God, they\u2019ll get their deliverance<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jones:\u00a0<\/strong>Many people\u2019ll go down the aisle, and say I don\u2019t get anything. \u2018Cause you\u2019re not aware of what\u2019s going on<\/em>. I\u2019ll go down the aisle. and you\u2019ll say, the Lord bless\u00a0<\/em>me. (Pause) That shows you\u2019ve got a limitation, you see. You tell the Lord to bless me<\/em>. You see the mystery. First place, that\u2019s a word that was put in by King James of England. It\u2019s a bad word. \u201cLord\u201d means the owner of slaves. \u201cLord\u201d means the one that controls the manor, that controls the old feudal estate, that had the slaves under his control. I will not use\u00a0<\/em>such a term. I say God, good or Allah or Jehovah or Christ. Christ means \u201canointing,\u201d but I will not use\u00a0<\/em>the word \u201cLord.\u201d Only to suit us\u2013 to suit sometimes your need if you\u2019re talking about, I won\u2019t correct you, because there\u2019s no use to it. You can\u2019t teach some old dogs new tricks.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jones:\u00a0<\/strong>Can\u2019t teach them. We\u2019ve been given a slave mentality, and it\u2019s very difficult to disrupt it. How do you suppose we got here? And it\u2019s good that we\u2019re here tonight in one way, but think about all the loved ones, all the precious loved ones. My people and your people that died by lynch mobs and in chains. Do you know who sent the first slave ship? Do you know who did it? That fellow you love so much, you\u2019re holding between your arms back there. One of the sisters is squeezing onto it. That King James. He\u2019s\u00a0<\/em>the one that sent the Good Ship Jesus to Africa to bring back slaves, telling them that they were going to go to school<\/em>, telling them they were going to have a new life, and tricked\u00a0<\/em>them into chains and put\u00a0<\/em>them on the boat. But before he put the adults on the boat, he took our babies. Took our black babies, and had all of his henchmen, his army, his navy throw them down into the rocks to die. Pregnant mothers that could not travel across the Atlantic were killed, and you hold on to King James. It\u2019s a shame\u00a0<\/em>in 1972, that we\u2019re still so stupid\u00a0<\/em>as we are. King James\u00a0<\/em>did this. King James of England<\/em>. The one that has taken the Scriptures and misinterpreted them. You say, what am I to do? What am I to do? What should you worry about what you\u2019re to do, when God\u2019s on the scene to tell you what\u2019s going on.<\/span><\/p>\n

Let my nature infiltrate you, and you won\u2019t have any need of any books when you get through\u00a0<\/em>being around me a little while. You\u2019ll lay your books aside, because you know you won\u2019t need any book any more.<\/span><\/p>\n

Yes, and so did your great granddaddy get fooled into coming over here on a slave\u00a0<\/em>ship too. Your granddaddy and mine\u00a0listened\u00a0<\/em>to their lies, listened\u00a0<\/em>to their smiles, listened\u00a0<\/em>to them as they prayed from their black book, and listened\u00a0<\/em>to what they had to say, and followed them right into the slave ship. So I don\u2019t care, just because your granddaddy did it. Our granddaddies did some pretty dumb things. (Pause) (ministerial fervor) I said our granddaddy shoulda stood up on their legs and resisted the devils and never come over here.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jones:\u00a0<\/strong>(Calms) I don\u2019t know what anybody going to be bragging about, all the things that their granddaddies and their grandmothers did. Sure, they\u2019re precious and we love them, but don\u2019t say that that makes them all right. We would live\u00a0<\/em>for them, we\u2019d give our life\u00a0<\/em>for them, we\u2019d feed\u00a0<\/em>them, we\u2013 we would never let them be without home or substance. Gracious day, no. Never. As one (unintelligible phrase)\u2013 One day you\u2019re going to have to deal\u2013 deal with cancer. [Jane] Mutschmann, see that they\u2019re talked to. One day it\u2019ll\u2013 that\u2019s what it\u2019ll be, if they don\u2019t get the help that they need. Better go out. Better be good, you better be nice. (Pause) They kept looking for Santa Claus who was coming to town. He never come to town even once. He never even once\u00a0<\/em>ever been seen by anybody, and for hundreds and thousands of years, everybody believing in Santa Claus, and he ain\u2019t never coming, because he never been here.<\/span><\/p>\n

You would have the life you\u2019re seeking. You\u2019d walk out like a free man and woman. The chains would fall off your back. You\u2019d be free in mind and spirit. If there were one error, my son, my daughter, it would be sufficient for you to listen to what I\u2019m saying. But there are thousands and thousands. Take Matthew 1:16, and Luke 3:23. That tells you about the most important thing in all the Bible. Jesus\u2019 birth. One of those l\u2013 chapters tells you\u2013 Both of them agree that Joseph was the father of Jesus. But from there on, you can\u2019t make heads nor tails out of it. One writer says that Joseph\u2019s father was Heli<\/em>. The other one says it was Jacob. The other one says that Joseph\u2019s great-grandfather was Jacob\u2013 yeah, Matthon rather. The other one says Matti\u2013 Matthon\u2013 Matthat \u2013 M-a-t-t-h-a-t, as opposed to M-a-t-t-h-a-n. Can\u2019t even spell right. And then you\u2019ll trace back Luke 3, and Matthew the first chapter, you trace Jesus\u2019 birth back \u2013 it\u2019s right in here \u2013 and you\u2019ll see, as it takes him back to David and Abraham on one\u2013 One chapter has 15 more grandfathers than the other. Now if I come here today, and tell you that tonight, I say oh, my granddaddy was uh, (clicks tongue) Jeremiah, that\u2019s one of my grandparents, and the other time, I\u2019d\u2013 I\u2019d say to you, John Thurman. You\u2019d say what in the world is matter with that\u2013 that guy don\u2019t know who his grandfather is. Well, you say maybe he\u2019s tracing it through the mother, and maybe he\u2019s tracing it through the father. Now better listen to me, (more deliberate) better listen to me close, better listen to me close, \u2018cause everybody today\u2013 This is a very unusual sermon and you\u2019ve got a grave responsibility, so chastise everyone to listen very, very closely. And that means that I\u2019m what you can be, what you should be, and what you will be. And it\u2019s not just an accident that I am named (deliberate) Jim Jones. Nor was it an accident that he was named Jesus, \u2018cause Jesus was a common name, a people\u2019s name. And I don\u2019t know of anybody that there\u2019re more of than the Jones\u2019. (Pause) All right. Now as I said, if you cannot possibly, child, read the Bible and figure out who Jesus\u2019 grandparents are, and you take it and read this, this\u2019ll shock\u00a0<\/em>you. Then you\u2019ll know, you\u2019re gonna have to do some re-learning. I would think you\u2019d be able to know it without\u00a0<\/em>that. (chuckles) You get all kinds of things in the Bible. Is it Judges 1, first chapter of Judges, the fifteenth [nineteenth] verse, it says, God was able to take care of the inhabitants of what? He was able to rid them\u2013 rid them in\u2013 in the self of the enemies, the inhabitants of the\u2013 the valley, was it? The mountain? You know that scripture? Where is that scripture? I\u2019m not interested in it anymore. I\u2019m tired of your fairy tale book, and I\u2019ve laid it aside. I\u2019ve laid it aside. I\u2019ve seen so many fairy tales that I\u2019m tired of them. Now there only one preacher I\u2019ve met lately that I liked, that brother from Bakersfield that got healed, the only one that I like, \u2018cause (tape distortion) he let the truth come out of him, and uh, that\u2019s where I\u2019m trying to bring you. It\u2019s to let you\u00a0<\/em>become the living epistles, read and known of all men. I want you\u00a0<\/em>to become the Bible. I want you\u00a0<\/em>to become the Christ, because if you don\u2019t, the world\u2019s going to go on to hell. You\u2019re going to have to become the deliverer. What kind of God is it that cannot drive out a bunch of people, because they got chariots made a iron? You better give him up. No, I\u2019ll tell you the God I serve, the God that I represent here, the God that I am incarnate and manifesting, he can do exceedingly, abundantly, above all that you are able to ask or to think. (Pause) (Calms) So why tell the people this? It\u2019ll hurt\u00a0<\/em>them. Now, that\u2019s interesting, I wonder how much of a more hurt we can be. Um-hmm [yes]. You look at the election on December\u2013 on November seventh, and you look where we\u2019re going, you look at the mess that\u2019s in this country. Man right down here in Los Angeles in jail, because he told the truth about the Pentagon Papers, how we\u2019ve been lied to, that there never was a Vietnam attack [reference to Daniel Ellsberg]. We\u2019ve been just lied to, and he ends up in jail for that. Newsmen being thrown in jail now, because they won\u2019t give the sources of the news, and there\u2019s censorship of the press. And in July they slapped another law on us. You know you can\u2019t take your money across the line. If you take more than 5000 dollars across the line, you violated a crime, unless you report it to Big Brother.Do you know that every time you write a check now, that the government takes a photograph of your checks as of July. We\u2019re in a mess. There\u2019re all kinds of laws that are taking away our freedoms, while these bunch of jacklegs get up and say, well, it\u2019s all right now, honey, just keep waiting on, wait on, \u2018cause Jesus gonna come pretty soon and take us out of this mess. What I\u2019m trying to say to you, nobody gonna take you out of this mess until (cries out) you do something about this mess you\u2019re gonna stay in this mess.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jones:\u00a0<\/strong>There\u2019re people here\u2013 One of the young brothers that\u2019ll leads a song, \u201cWalk a mile in my shoes.\u201d That brother, I\u2013 was in prison three years ago. I said, you will not go to prison again. I\u2019ll go to courts. This time you\u2019ll be free. Even though he was a three-time loser, and they said there was no hope, the District Attorney said there was no hope. He\u2019s free. (Claps hands once) Up and down here they\u2019re drow\u2013 drug pushers, criminals, murderers that are now converted, because I cared to go in and fight their battle. And one of them that was such a criminal, had been beat half to death as a child because of the color of his skin. He was abused, he was a foster child placed in a home, and they beat\u00a0<\/em>him merely because his\u2013 his color was different than the others. And they beat him, and beat him and that\u2019d make a criminal out of anybody.<\/span><\/p>\n

Congregation:\u00a0<\/strong>Murmurs.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jones:\u00a0<\/strong>So I have been there to try to help people, and don\u2019t think I would take up your time today, if I wasn\u2019t interested in helping you. I wouldn\u2019t do it, \u2018cause I don\u2019t have a car, and I don\u2019t have any new suits, and I don\u2019t have a new home. There\u2019s nothing I want, but your freedom. I\u2019m just here to get you free in mind and spirit.<\/span><\/p>\n

Congregation:\u00a0<\/strong>Applause.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jones:\u00a0<\/strong>Just take this, child, and read it. Read it closely. Then you\u2019ll see what I\u2019m saying. Every reason you\u2019re judging me right now, is because\u00a0<\/em>of something you\u2019ve been told. And it all comes out of King James. That\u2019s where the myths and the history comes, out of King James. And it was King James that took our great-grandfathers and mothers, those wonderful people, and lied to them, and brought them in the Good Ship Jesus. Not only did he lie to them with a book, but he took the first ship that brought the people here in slavery was the Good Ship Jesus. Well, you say, I\u2019m white. He didn\u2019t do anything to me. Oh, yes, he did. The first white settlers, the first white settlers, the first ones were persecuted by King James. The Indians that were persecuted? King James, his armies, his legions. Don\u2019t tell me. You\u2019ve all\u00a0<\/em>been lied to by King James.<\/span><\/p>\n

Congregation:\u00a0<\/strong>Scattered applause.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jones:\u00a0<\/strong>And I know that there (tape edit) some of you out here, sitting in this room saying, I believe every word that\u2019s in that book. (Pause) All right, do you now? Let\u2019s see. Ephesians 6:5. Slaves? That\u2019s the way it is originally, servants. Many of you are servants. You\u2019ve been working as servants. We\u2019ve been made servants. Says servants \u2013 originally it says slaves \u2013 be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trem\u2013 trembling in singleness of your heart. I can see some of you folk that are servants in house, are you going to tremble when you look at that master? Pause) You know better, and I\u2019m glad you wouldn\u2019t. That\u2019s what it says you\u2019re supposed to do. Any one of you work as a servant in the house? Oh, come on, now, I know you folk. Yeah, you\u2019re just one like me, so don\u2019t act like you\u2013 don\u2019t act like you working on Wall Street. I<\/em>know where you folk work.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jones:\u00a0<\/strong>It says servants, be obedient to them, you that\u2013 your masters, according to the flesh with fear\u00a0<\/em>and trembling. It says whatever state you find yourself \u2013 in Colossians 3:22 \u2013 slaves, obey in all\u00a0<\/em>things your master according to the flay\u2013 the flesh, not with eyeservice but in a singleness of heart, fearing God \u00a0(Tches) Slaves, exhort slaves to be obedient unto their own masters \u2013 Titus 2:9 \u2013 and to please them well in all things. Always be faithful to them. Slaves \u2013 First Peter 2:18 \u2013 be subject to your masters with all fear, not only to the good and gentle\u2013 Aren\u2019t you glad Harriet Tubman didn\u2019t believe this? Aren\u2019t you glad that Frederick Douglass didn\u2019t believe this? Aren\u2019t you glad that [George] Washington Carver didn\u2019t believe this?<\/span><\/p>\n

Congregation:\u00a0<\/strong>Applause.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jones:\u00a0<\/strong>It says slaves be subject to your masters with all fear, not only to the good and gentle, but also to the forward, for this is thankworthy, if a man for conscience towards God endure grief suffering wrongfully. Now I want to say, if we had listened to that tripe, we would still being\u2013 being lynched. We would still\u00a0<\/em>have no name. We would still not be able to have property. They could still come and take our children away from us, as they did our great-grandparents, snatched them away, and we never saw them again. Separate husband from wife. What a horrible, horrible thing. And there\u2019re people today that say they believe it. You\u00a0<\/em>don\u2019t believe that. Now some of you sisters in here\u2013 The brothers have been pretty open today. I haven\u2019t had any brother looking nasty at me, but some of you sisters are really frowning out there. And I want to say, sisters, do you believe that\u2013 all the Bible? Yeah, I see you raising your hand all right. It says women, (enunciates each syllable) obey your husbands.<\/span><\/p>\n

Congregation:\u00a0<\/strong>Laughter and applause.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jones:\u00a0<\/strong>You women, you know\u2013 You take what you want, and you\u00a0 leave what you want. And it says something else. It said you women\u2013 And you know, I\u2019m glad you\u2013 you don\u2019t\u00a0<\/em>do what this verse says, it says women\u2013 (emphasizes) women keep silence. In (draws out word) all the churches suffer not a woman to speak<\/em>. Suffer not a woman to teach. Now what would happen if a woman shut her mouth. What would happen?<\/span><\/p>\n

Congregation:\u00a0<\/strong>Applause.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jones:\u00a0<\/strong>The world would be a much less blessed place. It\u2019d be a much less free\u00a0<\/em>place, and it would certainly drive all the women crazy and the men too<\/em>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jones:\u00a0<\/strong>They couldn\u2019t possibly\u00a0<\/em>be shut, you couldn\u2019t shut your mouth. But that\u2019s what King James says. Women keep silence. That means, honey, if you don\u2019t understand plain English, shut your cotton-pickin\u2019 mouth.<\/span><\/p>\n
