          Jim Jones conducts a healing service in Los Angeles. The date of the service is unknown.<\/p>\n

          The service was recorded for use elsewhere, possibly on for radio broadcast on a local station. An announcer often provides commentary when there would otherwise only be the sound of the audience \u2013 sometimes just stirring, more often cheering \u2013 and reports on the miracle cures Jones has effected.<\/p>\n

          The pattern of the cures is similar to that in other such services: Jones calls someone out of the audience. He establishes that they have never met and that he knows nothing about them personally, and that the information he has about them \u2013 the type of cleanser they use, the number of dogs in the household, or (more significantly) the number of tragedies the person has experienced \u2013 comes from the Spirit of God. He then refers to a medical ailment that they have, and after a few whispered words of glossolalia, pronounces them cured. One woman is escorted to the bathroom to pass a cancer, and when she returns, he asks that \u201cthe enormity of that awful growth that\u2019s left the body\u201d be passed around the congregation \u201cfor you to see and to smell.\u201d<\/p>\n

          Some of the miracles are preventative: the cloth he has given will prevent the heart attack that was going to happen in a few days, or the accident which would have killed them.<\/p>\n

          He works in the name of Jesus Christ, and the only two scriptural references he makes comes from the New Testament. The latter is in the context of his own role as working as an agent of God rather than of the devil. \u201cThe Destroyer never, never heals anybody. He never cared,\u201d he says midway through. \u201cHow can a devil cast out a devil?\u201d<\/p>\n

          The most remarkable aspect of this service is that Jones turns water into wine.<\/p>\n

          In connection with the Federal Bureau of Investigation\u2019s investigation into the assassination of U.S. Congressman LEO J. RYAN at Port Kaituma, Guyana, South America, on November 18, 1978, a tape recording was obtained. This tape recording was located in Jonestown, Guyana, South America, and was turned over to U.S. Officials in Guyana and subsequently transported to the United States.<\/p>\n

          On June 14, 1979, Special Agent (name deleted) reviewed the tape numbered 1B107-15. This tape was found to contain the following:<\/p>\n

          JIM JONES offering prayers and curing physical ailments such as back, heart and eye ailments at \u201chealing service.\u201d<\/p>\n
