Beam left Peoples Temple (PT) in 1975 because of excesses of Jones but has remained in contact with former members of PT through the Human Freedom Center in Berkeley, California, and a group called Concerned Relatives, the latter organization strictly concerned with the PT members in Guyana. Most information furnished by Beam is heresay [hearsay] in nature and not direct. Beam’s father, mother and sister, Eleanor Beam, died in Guyana as did his wife’s mother, Lois Ponts. Beam knows a great deal about historical background

PAGE TWO (LA 89-436) UNCLAS

of PT and of Jones.

Beam furnished list of following named individuals whom he described as dangerous and on the personal staff of PT:

Terry Buford, white female presently in the United States.
Carolyn Layton, whereabouts unknown.
Mike Prokes, in Guyana.
Steven [Stephan] Jones, in Guyana.
Lee Ingram, in Guyana.
Archie Ijames, in San Francisco.
Sandy Bradshaw, in San Francisco.
Tim Carter, in Guyana.
Harriet Tropp, whereabouts unknown.
Gene Chaiken, a lawyer, whereabouts unknown.
Don and Bonnie Beck, whereabouts unknown.
Jim McElvane, whereabouts unknown.
Helen Swinney, possibly on PT boat.
Joyce Touchette, whereabouts unknown.

PAGE THREE (LA 89-436) UNCLAS

Debbie and Mike Touchette, in Guyana.
Charlie Touchette, possibly on PT boat.
Paula Adams, in Guyana.
Tim Tucker Jones, security head, Guyana.
Jim Jones, Jr., a male black adopted son of Jones, in Guyana.

Beam also had a list of other close members of PT but did not describe them as dangerous. In Beam’s opinion, none of the above persons, regardless of public statements, would reject the teachings of Jones and was still adhere to the principles ordered by Jones even though deceased.

Beam advised his sister, [deleted information on Joyce Parks] was in Venezuela in a clinic for the last two and one half months but is now in the United States living with Beam’s aunt and uncle [names deleted], Lodi, California, telephone number [withheld]. Beam requested [Joyce Parks] be contacted in advance for arrangements for interview and that her whereabouts not be disclosed because of press interest in locating her and because of her

PAGE FOUR (LA 89-436) UNCLAS

fear for her personal safety.
