On November 20, 1978, individual who wishes his [word handwritten; word \u201cher\u201d deleted from original<\/span>] identity to be kept strictly confidential within the FBI, appeared at the Carrollton, Texas [deleted in duplicate]<\/span> PD and, through efforts of detective there, was interviewed by Bureau agents. Source [original includes words: \u201cindicates she was [deleted word\u201d; duplicate deletes original and substitutes: \u201cgave information on\u201d<\/span>] inner circle of Peoples Temple church operated by<\/p>\n

Reverend Jimmy Jones in Indianapolis, Indiana; Reno, Nevada; Ukiah, California, and San Francisco, California, from period [deleted date in original; duplicate reads: \u201c1961 through 1973\u201d<\/span>]. Source was extremely reluctant to furnish any information initially but did state [\u201cshe\u201d deleted in duplicate<\/span>] was appalled at recent events which had transpired regarding Congressman Ryan and mass suicides of Jones\u2019 followers. Source stated [deleted information] [words added in duplicate: \u201cknew of persons\u201d<\/span>] whose identities [\u201cshe\u201d deleted in duplicate<\/span>] would not furnish, had been members of 14-15 person inner circle which was the ruling body for the Peoples Temple church. Source advised [\u201cshe\u201d deleted in duplicate<\/span>] had intimate knowledge of numerous illegal and illicit activities in which Peoples Temple church followers involved, including [deleted word] knowledge of at least eight murders which occurred from 1970 to 1973 in San Francisco, California; Southern Oregon; Reno, Nevada; Southern California; and in state of Washington. Source advised [deleted information] [duplicate reads: \u201c[deleted word] was aware of planning\u201d<\/span>] all of these murders [deleted information] [duplicate reads \u201cwith at least [deleted information]\u201d<\/span>]: and source stated [\u201cshe\u201d deleted in duplicate<\/span>] [deleted line] [duplicate provides line: knew someone who helped procure \u201chardware\u201d used to accomplish murders\u201d<\/span>]. Source stated [\u201cshe\u201d deleted in duplicate<\/span>] was told by Jones and other individuals involved in Peoples Temple church that these murders actually occurred and [\u201cshe\u201d deleted in duplicate<\/span>] does have general knowledge as to the disposition of some bodies.<\/p>\n

[Deleted paragraph] Duplicate includes partial paragraph: \u201cSource, along with [deleted name], fled from Jones [deleted word] and took documentary evidence [deleted word] re crimes in which Jones and his followers involved. [Deleted information] tape recordings of various \u201cPlanning Sessions” meetings in which illegal activities discussed. Source also indicated [deleted pronoun] had other documentary evidence which [deleted pronoun] would not disclose.<\/span><\/p>\n

Source interviewed for approximately three hours on this date but is extremely fearful for [\u201cher own\u201d deleted in duplicate<\/span>] physical safety, the safety of [\u201cher immediate\u201d deleted in duplicate<\/span>] family, [balance of paragraph deleted in duplicate] and her fear of prosecution for her participation in various crimes in which she was involved with Jones.<\/span><\/p>\n

Source appeared extremely knowledgeable of identities of various church members whose names appear in Dallas area papers as a result of publicity resulting from captioned matter. Interviewing agents [deleted in duplicate: \u201cand Carrollton police detective strongly of\u201d<\/span>] opinion potential evidentiary information in [deleted in duplicate: \u201cher possession\u201d<\/span>] is probably valid [deleted in duplicate: \u201cand she is what she claims to be.\u201d<\/span>]<\/p>\n

[deleted in duplicate: \u201cCarrollton police detective\u201d<\/span>] prior to interview and would not permit notes to be taken during interview. Source undecided upon termination of the interview as to whether [\u201cshe\u201d deleted in duplicate<\/span>] all would further cooperate with law enforcement in this matter. Source indicated [\u201cshe\u201d deleted in duplicate<\/span>] [duplicate adds: \u201cfurnished Jones on a continuing basis with various drugs [one line deleted]\u201d<\/span>].<\/p>\n

Through discreet investigation it was determined source using name [deleted name] and is residing in [deleted location] since [deleted date]. Source employed at [deleted name]. [duplicate deletes previous sentence<\/span>] This information should not, under any circumstances, be disseminated to anyone who does not have need to know as source indicated followers of Jones have in the past tried to locate [duplicate deletes \u201cher and other two female defectors\u201d<\/span>] and have threatened their lives.<\/p>\n

Dallas will maintain contact with source as source has indicated [\u201cshe\u201d deleted in duplicate<\/span>] will decide whether to furnish information to the Bureau in the near future.<\/p>\n

[Duplicate adds following text: \u201cThe FBI, in conjunction with our investigation of the death of Congressman Ryan, will conduct investigation to corroborate the information from this source. Armed and dangerous.\u201d Duplicate then deletes balance of serial.]<\/span><\/p>\n

The Bureau and receiving officers are requested to advise the following information: 1) Have any past investigations of<\/p>\n

Peoples Temple revealed possibility that certain church followers may have been murdered; 2) Is it known whether [deleted information] members of Peoples Temple defected from church in 1973 and, if so, identities of these individuals.<\/p>\n

San Francisco advised Dallas if any past investigations of Peoples Temple church in San Francisco or Ukiah, California areas have revealed that person possibly identical to source and possessing a [deleted information] did in fact belong to Peoples Temple church in past, noting source claims to have graduated from the school.<\/p>\n

Investigation continuing at Dallas.<\/p>\n
