“Sharon was a neighbor a few blocks away from me in Burlingame, CA and I passed her house each day I walked to school. She and her family were loved by all who knew them and always greeted everyone with a warm smile and hello. ” - Mark Schon

“I sat next to Sharon in History at Mills High School. She was a very nice, peaceful person. I hope she is at peace now. ” - Mike Gill

“Although I was a little older, I was in Girl Scouts with Sharon and we used to meet at her house. She was very pretty and sweet with freckles, always smiling. Her mother was always nice to us too and I remember we always had fun. God Bless Her. ” - Tina (Cain) Melendez

“I met Sharon in middle school when we were 12. We were instantly best friends and had remained so through high school. I graduated from Mills High with her. She was always soul searching - trying to find her purpose in life and felt bad for the underdog. My family grew up on welfare and she always helped me with school projects as she had all the materials/supplies needed to do them and I didn't She was very bright. Her parents we're always worried about her leaving the house not dressed right and she didn't care. She didn't want to be materialistic and showy and her parents were always yelling at her. When she graduated from Mills High School, she went on to Humbolt State College where she became involved with Jim Jones and his cult. I remember when his cult moved to San Francisco and they became Peoples Temple. I went to see Sharon as we heard rumors that they were planning on moving to Guyana. They wouldn't let us see her. I have lots of fond memories of Sharon and often think of her and how she could have become so brainwashed. She has been truly missed. ” - Jeanette Goodwin

Memories of Sharon Kislingbury ” - Jeanette Goodwin

“Sharon and I were friends at Mills High School. I just finished viewing a special on TV re: Jim Jones: What Happened? It just reminded me of the night I learned of Sharon being one of his followers and that she had passed away in Guyana. It was at a New Years eve party in the early 80's. I remember being so upset of the news, I left the party and went home crying. I just could not believe that she would do that willingly. I still remember her soft, fun easy way and smile. She was friendly to everyone. When I read what Jeanette Goodwin wrote, it brought back many memories of just how sweet Sharon was. I remember her also being very good friends with Sherry Posnick. When I look at her photos on this site it reminds me of how innocent we all were at that time in our lives. I will be 62 this month and think of all the years I had my life, she would have made so many people happy in those years. I truly feel she would have made a difference somewhere. What I also liked about her was she was her own person, didn't have to wear makeup, dressed her own style kind of hippy and cool at the same time. If her folks are still alive today I wish them peace because the pain of that loss never goes away.” - Joanne Del Bene
