Music of the Jonestown Express

Song 1: “I feel like making love to you” by Roberta Flack

–And the feeling starts to flow
Oo-oo-ooh, that’s the time
I feel like making love to you
That’s the time
I feel like making dreams come true
Oh babe
In the restaurant
Holding hands by candlelight
When I’m touchin’ you
Wanting you with all my might
Oo-oo-ooh
That’s the time
I feel like makin’ love to you
That’s the time
I feel like makin’ dreams come true
Oh babe
[Instrumental break]
Oo-oo-ooh, that’s the time
I feel like making love to you
That’s the time
I feel like making dreams come true
Oh babe
Strollin’ in the park
Watchin’ winter turn to spring
Walkin’ in the dark
Seein’ lovers do their thing
Oo-oo-ooh
That’s the time
I feel like makin’ love to you
That’s the time
I feel like makin’ dreams come true
Oh babe
That’s the time
You know I feel like makin’ love to you, babe
That’s the time
You know I feel like makin’ love to you, babe
That’s the time
You know I feel like makin’ love to you, babe

Song 2: “Love Song” by Elton John

The words I have to say will be simple but they’re true
Until you give your love
There’s nothing else that we can do

Love is the opening door
Love is what we came here for
No one could offer you more
Do you know what I mean?
Have your eyes ever seen?

You say it’s very hard
To leave behind the life we knew
But there’s no other way
And now it’s really up to, to you

Love is the opening door
Love is what we came here for
No one can offer you more
Do you know what I mean?
Have your eyes ever seen?

Love is the key we must turn
Truth, it’s the flame we must burn
Freedom is the word we must learn
You know what I mean
Have your eyes ever seen?

Love is the opening door
Love is what we came here for
No one can offer you more
Do you know what I mean?
Have your eyes ever seen?

Love is the key we must turn
Truth is the flame we must burn
Freedom the lesson we must learn
You know what I mean
Have your eyes ever seen?
Have your eyes ever seen?
Do you know what I mean
Do you know what I mean
Have your eyes ever seen?

Crowd: Applause.

Song 3: “I Got Sunshine”/Imagination” (sung by Poncho Johnson)

I’ve got sunshine on a cloudy day
When it’s cold outside
I’ve got the month of May
Ooh, I guess you’d say
What can make me feel this way

My girl
Talkin’ ’bout my girl, yeah

I’ve got so much money
The bees envy me, yeah,
I’ve got a sweeter song, sweeter song, yes I have now
Than the birds in the trees
And I guess you’d say
What can make me feel this way

My girl
Talkin’ ’bout my girl

Oh right out my window, I watch her as she passes by
I say to myself, I’m such a lucky guy
To have a girl like her, is truly a dream come true
Out of all the fellas in the world, she belongs to you.
Oh, It was just my imagination
Just my imagination
Just my imagination
Runnin’ away with me
Runnin’ away (calls out) Let the band play

[Instrumental break]

Yeah, I’ve got sunshine on a cloudy day
Do you believe me now?
When it’s cold– When it’s cold outside
I’ve even got the month of May
Yes I have now.
I guess you’d say, yeah,
What can make me feel this way
My girl, my girl
Talkin’ ’bout my girl, my girl, my girl

It was just my imagination
Runnin’ away with me
Yes it was now,
Oh, each night I go to bed
I know it’s my imagination
Yes it is,
Because my girl she’s gone,
I said my girl she’s gone,
Yes she is
I said my girl she’s gone
Believe me, people,
It’s my imagination
Yeah, my imagination
Believe me now
Just my imagination
Runnin’ away, yeah, yeah yeah,
Yeah yeah yeah
Yeah yeah yeah
Clap your hands
Yeah yeah yeah
Yeah yeah yeah
I say we’ve got a groove going now
Everybody clap your hands.
I said, it’s just my imagination
Everybody say it with me
Just my imagination
Just my imagination
Come on, people,
Just my imagination
Yeah yeah yeah
Yeah yeah yeah

Song 4:

It feels good, to rise with the morning bird,
It feels good, to look at the setting sun,
It feels good, to see all the work we’ve done,
It feels good, to sing to the rain.

The sun, the moon, the two can fly
The painted clouds caress the sky
Socialist vision fills ours eyes
As we build, our future is now.

It feels good, to work in the eddoe fields
It feels good, to eat what our labor yields,
It feels good, to work with you side by side,
It feels good, to sing to the rain.

The sun, the moon, the two can fly
The painted clouds caress the sky
Socialist vision fills ours eyes
As we build, our future is now.

It feels good, to watch all the children grow
Like healthy banana trees in a row
It feels good, to watch little children smile
It feels good, to sing to the rain.

To all of our distinguished guests
Welcome you to this land so blessed
We’re proud to stand as socialists
Welcome now, and share our new home

La la la

It feels good, to rise with the morning bird,
It feels good, to look at the setting sun,
It feels good, to see all the work we’ve done,
It feels good, to sing to the rain.

The sun, the moon, the two can fly
The painted clouds caress the sky
Socialist vision fills ours eyes
As we build, our future is now.

La, la la

It feels good, to rise with the morning bird,
It feels good, to look at the setting sun,
It feels good, to see all the work we’ve done,
It feels good, to sing to the rain.

The sun, the moon, the two can fly
The painted clouds caress the sky
Socialist vision fills ours eyes
As we build, our future is now.

La, la, la

Song 5: Variation on “You are so beautiful to me” by Joe Cocker

Guyana is so beautiful
To me
Guyana is so beautiful
To all of us here
Yes it is,
It’s everything I’d ever hoped for
And it’s everything, everything to me
Yeah, yeah,
Guyana is so beautiful
To me
Guyana is so beautiful
(Speaks) If you know it, sing with me
(Sings) To me
Guyana is so beautiful
To me
Yes I see
It’s everything I’d ever hoped for, hoped for, hoped for
And it’s everything, everything to me
Yeah
Guyana is so beautiful
Claps your hands, y’all,
Guyana is so beautiful
Let the world know it
Guyana is so beautiful
Claps your hands, Claps your hands,
Guyana
One more time, one more time,
Say it again
Guyana is so beautiful
To me, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Song 6: Variation of “Young, Gifted & Black” by Nina Simone

To be strong, gifted and black
Oh what a lovely precious thing,
Oh when you’re
When you’re
When you’re strong, gifted and black
We must begin to tell our people
In a cold world, you know,
There are millions of boys and girls
Who are strong, gifted and black
They got their souls intact
And that’s a fact
To be strong, gifted and black
We must begin to tell our people
There’s a world waiting for you
Ours is a quest that’s just begun
When you’re feelin’ real low
There’s a great truth we all should remember, I know
That we are strong, gifted and free
We got our souls intact,
And that’s a fact
And that’s a fact
And that’s a fact
And that’s a fact
We are strong, gifted and free
We must begin to tell our people
There’s a world waiting for you
Ours is a quest that’s just begun
When you’re feelin’ real low
There’s a great truth we all should remember, I know
That we are strong, gifted and free
We got our souls intact,
And that’s a fact
Come on, y’all
And that’s a fact
And that’s a fact
And that’s a fact
I know that’s a fact
We are free, we are free
That’s a fact
That’s a fact
That’s a fact
We are free
That’s a fact
That’s a fact
That’s a fact
We are free
That’s a fact
That’s a fact
We are free, free, free
That’s a fact
Let it ring
We are free, free, free,
That’s a fact
Come on, y’all
We are free
Oh, that’s a fact

[Crowd picks up song]

Man: I’d like to thank everybody for coming. Keep on singing, ‘cause it shows them that we believe in. Thank you very much. That’s the end of our show. Come on.

Song 7:

I’ll make the first step
And you will make the next
And we’ll join hands
The farther, we go
The hills may sometime seem hard for you to climb
But I know we can make it by and by
We’ll go on fighting
To the end
To live just together in peace
I’ll make the first step
Then you will make the next
And we’ll join hands
The farther, we go
The hills may sometime seem hard for you to climb
But I know this we will make it by and by.
Oh, we’ll go on fighting
To this end
To live together in peace
Together in peace

Crowd: Applause

Jones: I suppose since Charles Garry came into our lives, nothing has given me as much consolation as this gentleman who is our guest tonight. Joseph Mazor. He has brought out facts that will incriminate [Tim] Stoen for all the deeds he lost for you, for all the falsehoods (unintelligible word) gave you, for all of the things that he took advantage of you as individual members, and I think that might be good news. I suppose we shouldn’t take joy in anyone’s hurt, but if he, as we know, was one sick person, and I thought I’d like to know, this man does have the goods on him.

Crowd: Applause

Mazor: What am I supposed to say, anything? Well, (short laugh) (several words too low). There is really nothing I cansay. I brought you information which uh, I think had we as (Pause) people got together uh, six months ago, you might not’ve gone through all the pain that you have. But uh, sometimes the communications fall down, particularly in the legal field, as Charles will tell you, and one of the problems we’ve had is trying to (Pause) look at everyone, both sides, the uh, people who are ex-Temple members who make complaints, and the people who are sitting over here, 5000 miles away, and not make any judgments, but yet, try and get all the information you can. As I’ve told Charles, we have about 53,000 pages of documents, which we’ve put together over 18 months. We have enough information to convict several people of various crimes, perjury, conspiracy, and like that. It doesn’t mean they’ll go to jail forever, but at least it means uh, some of the things which the Temple may have been wrongly charged with, uh, at least the record will be set straight. Thank you.

Crowd: Applause
