Thanks to alert researcher Aliah Mohmand, the Peoples Temple Flickr site has been enhanced by the addition of photos from the Ukiah High School Yearbook. As Ms. Mohmand described her discovery of the yearbook:
I’ve known for a while now that besides Opportunity II High School in San Francisco, many Temple kids had attended Ukiah High School. In August, I found eBay listings for old yearbooks, including the Ukiah High yearbook for the 1975–1976 school year. I ordered it, assuming that since it was the year prior to the mass exodus, it might include photos of Temple members. As it turned out, there were at least 30 students who were members of the Temple, as well as a couple of adult members who were on the school staff. Obscure yearbooks are hard to come by, so it was good luck on my end.
Although the quality of the photographs is somewhat poor, they nevertheless show the extent of Temple participation in the local high school.
Also new this year are photographs documenting the observances of the 45th Anniversary of the Jonestown deaths at Evergreen Cemetery in Oakland, California. While there are some photos from the service conducted by Pastor Jynona Norwood at 11:00 a.m., the majority depict the 2:00 p.m. service, held inside the mausoleum due to rain. Photos also show participants—friends, families, and survivors—enjoying dinner together at Harry’s Hof Brau following the service.
Most photos were taken by Mark Gallega and Rebecca Moore, and can be used crediting the photographer and the Jonestown Institute.
Finally, Dale Stacey took some beautiful photos of the Los Angeles Temple in September 2024. The church is now the Iglesia Adventista Central (Central Seventh-day Adventist Church) located at 1366 S. Alvarado Street, Los Angeles.
