Letter from Jordan Vilchez

Dear Mr. Haulman;

As one who lost my only two sisters, a brother-in-law, two nephews and scores of friends, I was surprised to hear that there would be someone who would be bothered by the long awaited stones with the names of all who died thirty two years ago.

When I first heard about the Jonestown Memorial Fund project, it was a glimmer of hope for me that this would finally actually happen, since a previous effort seemed to had fallen by the wayside.

I have been so impressed and filled with gratitude about the manner in which the Jonestown Memorial Committee worked to organize the project,from  working with cemetery staff, as well as families of those who died.  Their professionalism, care, and competence in seeing this project through from start to finish has been outstanding.

I am so glad that my mother who is 91 will see the names of her daughters and grandchildren placed so beautifully and tastefully on Evergreen Cemetery’s lovely hillside.  For my father who has passed away, it was an unfulfilled dream.

Finally, I wish to thank you for the integrity with which you have handled this unusual and complex situation over the years.

Sincerely,

Jordan Vilchez
