Jones: Now I will not review the thirteenth chapter of Mark, ‘cause it says the same thing, only some errors. The story’s told just a little different. Every time you read the Bible, the story’s told just a little different. That’s what King James has done to the Bible. It’s like four people is on a corner watching an accident, not one of them can tell the truth about it. They all see it differently. And most churches will say, that’s the way you gotta take the Bible, four people witnessing. Well, we don’t take four people on a corner and uh, judge our life by what four people on a corner say, do we?
Congregation: Right
Jones: But this Bible is to be taken as what constitutes hell and heaven, your fate, your future, everything you do, the church tells you, you gotta believe according to this Bible. And yet these preachers will stand, when you show ‘em a discrepancy, and they’ll say, well, look at it this way. It was like four different people looking at an accident. Well, if these people are just people, then throw it away. We don’t need people– we’re not looking for four people that were watching an accident, we want to hear God tell what he’s doing himself. We want God to speak for himself. We don’t want four people telling us what God said, we want God to tell us, for himself.
Congregation: Cheers and applause
Jones: Say, you can’t expect that. Oh yes, you can expect that. If you don’t have it, then God is a liar. ‘Cause it is written, God is no respecter of persons. Out of one blood, he made all nations. That’s why I have Jesus blood. There’s only one blood. God is no respecter of persons. Said what he’s done for one, he’ll do for all. You sing a sing, what he’s done for you, he’ll do for others. (unintelligible word) the secret what he’s done for you, he can do for all. Now if he appeared to Nebuchadnezzar, who was a racist who owned slaves, Nebuchadnezzar and the king of Babylon, in the fiery furnace, he looked out there, he saw Ashack, Meshach, and Abendego [Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego], and then, baby, he looked and he saw Jesus Christ, God. Right?
Congregation: Right.
Jones: That’s what he said, he said he saw four. Solomon saw him, and he said his hair was as black as a raven. Well, I’m pretty close to it. And I– some will (unintelligible word)– I got some idiots that say I dye my hair. That’s my hair, baby.
Congregation: Applause
Jones: There’s Brother Lewis, by the way, back there. If any of you want to see him, he’s standing in the door, where the three– he was shot three times, you can put your hands right in the wounds, he’ll show it to you. Don’t hesitate. He took his shirt off last time so that all of you could see it, but if you want to be believer, if you have to be a doubting Thomas, I’d rather you would just admit that you’re a Thomas and say, I want to see it. He told you– I told him to stay in 14 days, and the thirteenth day, he went out, but he was a man of goodwill, and they kicked him over and said, now trust in that sucker Jones. And he did, and he called my name, and the doctor didn’t have to do a thing for him. Now what do you think about somebody that can bring a bullet through the heart, and man can get up like he is, standing there with no trouble. I ask you to look for yourself. Don’t take my word. Don’t go out of here a doubting Thomas. Ask him to show you and he’ll show you where it went right in here and out here. (Clears throat)
Congregation: Applause
Voice in Congregation: Right
Jones: Right through the heart, side cavity, right through the back and out through there. (Pause) So don’t take my word. Just look at it. And anybody knows anything about guns, you’ll know that he was shot with a high-powered pistol. All right. Now. If God appeared to Nebuchadnezzar and Solomon – and my hair ain’t dyed, this is mine – And if he appeared to all the prophets, major and minor– (Pause) Here– You– Sister, you still worrying out that? You want me to pluck out my eyelash or one of my hairs and give it to you? (Pause) (unintelligible word) crazy bunch. You see my eye? You see they don’t look black? Nobody puts dye in their eyes or they’re crazy, they’ll go blind. You oughtna put that lead on you anyway, that lead content, but you don’t– sure, all of ‘em tells you don’t put no– none in your eyes, ‘cause I had to heal one woman, she said I got it in my eyes, and her eye went blind. So if you have to pluck out one of my hairs, you go have it analyzed. I would like for you to believe. (Pause) (Tches) It’s terrible. Sittin’ there worryin’ about whether my hair is black or not. It’s– it’s not my hair, but Solomon said his hair was black as a raven. (Pause) Moses saw him, said– saw him and spoke with him as man would face to face, Jacob met him and wrestled with him all night with– like a man, he was fightin’ with him, like a lot of folk do with me, they just don’t want to accept the truth, they got an old black book, all this ever did, this man that wrote this black book, put the w– early whites in slavery, took the blacks in the first Ship Jesus, and brought them back from Africa. Here’s the man that did it. King James of England. He was a whoremonger, alcoholic, and a slaveowner. He was a drunk, he did every devious thing you could think of. He cut out the books of Barnabus, the books of the Apocrypha, the books of Wisdom, he cut ‘em all out. It was King James that took us from our slave– into our slavery from our beautiful homes in the far country. Took us from the Abraham Promised Land, into this harbra– this hurrying– harrowing and horrendous slave country. And you gonna judge me by this? Mario did on Tuesday, and he died.
Congregation: Scattered applause
Jones: (Voice rises throughout) Peace. All right. But I’ll just use it l– logically. God is no respecter of persons. All right? What he’d done for one, he’ll do for you. What is that song? (Sings) What he’d done for others, he’ll do for you. T’is no secret– (speaks) No, you heard it all. (Pause) Now if God appeared to Solomon, and God appeared to Jacob, and Jacob wrestled with him all night long, and on the morning, Jacob had more sense than folk in here. I just used a young man for the first time and sent my mind to him and healed you, your ear trouble’s all gone now, isn’t it. Your arthritis is gone back there, that I healed. God. Pain’s all gone. I sent my mind to him, and he did it to you, like a ricochet. (Pause) And– and then– But Jacob had more sense. All that man did in that Bible was, after the morning began to appear, the dung that the– the dusk began– the– the– the dawn began to open up his eyes, and he looked on the man, and the man just looked at him and he said uh, uh– said, what is your name? I tell you what your name is. I told her through him. My God. I told her through him where she come from, where her children was, I saved the son by the name of Roosevelt, he was gonna be in accident, two of his children would’ve been killed, I’ve already saved him.
Congregation: Applause
Jones: Peace. (Pause) (Ministerial fervor) I did it by transmission. The radio station. You don’t know who the radio station is, you ought to, ‘cause you just saw, I am the radio station.
Congregation: Cheers and applause
Jones: Peace. And I transmitted to him, (voice moderates) and he brought healing to you. (Clears throat) But Jacob didn’t even have that kind of a thing. Jacob– that man just said, what is your name? But there was something different about the way the man said it, and Jacob said, I have met God face to face. I will name the place Peniel. And all the man says, I’m gonna change your name from Jacob to what?
Congregation: Murmurs “Israel”
Jones: (Voice rises throughout) Israel. Gonna change it. He didn’t tell him what his name was, he just said he was gonna change it. But there was something about the man that said Jacob, I’m gonna name a town after him, I’m gonna build a city, I’m gonna make a place, and I’m gonna call it Peniel, which in the Hebrew meant– (Voice moderates) It meant in the Hebrew, this day I have met God face to face. Jacob wrestled with him, thought he was just a man, but he was God. Now I want you to get this, because it’s your difference between life and death. You got trouble with your heart, honey, you could stand to get this down in yours, real close too. (Pause) It is important that you have it down close, because I want to make this so plain that, though a man be a fool, you shall not err therein.
Woman in Congregation: (unintelligible)
Jones: I don’t want nobody to die. I come to give everybody life. Wake up. Peace. All right, all right. Now God appeared– (Ministerial fervor) Job says I had heard of him with the hearing of the ear, but now mine eyes behold him, and I see him as a man speaketh to a friend face to face. Job saw him. Mi– Noah and his wife saw him. All those in the days of Jesus got to walk with him, Martha and Mary, Martha, a– just an ordinary woman, Mary [Magdalene], a whore that was converted. They got to walk with God in a body face to face. I tell you, it’s different when you walk with God face to face. (Pause) (Voice lowers, then builds throughout) Now I say to you, if God would appear to the Jews in the form of Jesus, and not to blacks and poor whites and the downtrodden of the earth today, if you couldn’t see God and yet God would appear to the Jews, he would be guilty of discrimination. He would be a respecter of persons, but he says, God cannot lie. He is no respecter of persons. What he has done for others, he will– he will do for you.
Congregation: Applause
Jones: (Moderates) I’m just about finished. That means God had to have a body in every generation, or God is an absolute liar. (Pause) Well, I can prove to you, he’s got a body.
Congregation: Applause
Jones: Peace. (Pause) But this is not the proof, just that I’m doing the works that no many can do. Say, well, the devil can heal. Oh, you’re a liar. Your Bible never even taught you that. Even King James didn’t teach you that. Said all good things come down from above. All these people I’ve healed, given jobs, homes, set them from– free from prison, healed them from blindness, saved them from cancer, save them from body cast, took them out of wheelchairs, you mean the devil does that? You’re a liar. They called Jesus a prince of devils too, they called him not only a devil, they said he was Beelzebub, the mastery of witchery, the master of trickery, the master of the flies. Oh, how evil people are. They said no man can cast out a devil with a devil. No man can heal with a devil. He said if it were so, a house would be divided against itself. When somebody does good, it has to be God. (Calls out) And I’m doing more good than anybody on earth today.
Congregation: Applause and cheers
Jones: Peace. Peace. Now you couldn’t be expected to know that, sitting here. But those that know me know it. (clears throat) I’ve set people free all over this world. I’ve healed– There’s a woman in Africa that was eaten up with cancer, the wife of a chief, she now conducts our mission in Nigeria. Eaten away with cancer. Legs gone, eye gone, she’s restored. Sister Nizarum [phonetic], I’m talking about Sister Nizarum. You know who I’m talking about. I’ve adopted eight babies. I took 200 in that were starving. Some of you can’t know that, it’s your first time here, but if you go up to Redwood Valley and look all over there– There’s a little miniature. Oh, how beautiful Brother Heywood has got it. How beautiful he’s got it. That’s just like our main mother cha– church at the Temple. All of our buses, our children’s home. Over here, our seniors’ home. Then across the street in those beautiful trees, a lovely convalescent home, and there’s white and black, and they’re throwing their Bible down. (Calls out) Hey (unintelligible word) Spirit of God, hey, (same unintelligible word)
Congregation: Applause and cheers
Jones: That’s what you’re supposed to do, cast down every idol, cast down every idol. This is an idol, because it murders. Anything that murders is an idol. Anything that kills is an idol. It’s a paper idol. It’s kept you in slavery. It’s kept women in slavery. (Voice calms, then rises) Right now, a man’s average salary is nine thousand dollars, but a woman’s average salary is four thousand. A woman can work hard as a man, but she’ll get four thousand, and a man gets nine. Why? Because the women are taught by King James to obey, to be subject to their husband. What’s subject mean? Be a slave to their husband.
Congregation: Scattered calls
Jones: I didn’t know I was gonna preach so long, but baby, I’ll preach the truth all day long if I have to.
Congregation: Cheers and applause
Jones: Peace. (clears throat) (pause) (Calls out) You don’t believe that book, only when you want to. It says, women, keep silent in all the churches. Suffer not a woman to teach. Suffer not a woman to speak. If she’s got a question, ask her husband. Where can you find your husband? Some of your husbands’ been killed, been destroyed by the slave system. (Pause) You have no husband, yet the church says no woman is to speak in the church. You don’t believe that Bible, only when you want to. King James put lies in there. He said, slaves, obey your master. Servants, obey your master. If you’ve got a good master, be thankful. If you have a bad master, he said, endure him. Is it in the book? Yes, it’s in the book. That’s why we had people owning black people. That’s why they were put in slavery, and they were told not to question, because if they had a good master, be thankful, but if they had a bad master, endure him. I’ve come and told you, there are no masters. We shall be free.
Congregation: Cheers and applause
Jones: (Voice rises throughout) Never. Never in the history of mankind has a black book done so much in– infamy as this book. It brought blacks in chains, it murdered the Indians, till there’s not one hardly left. Their tribes are gone. Their religion is gone. Their culture is gone. The Mexican people, their whole nation was robbed from them, the Mexican Indians, in the name of this black book. (Pause) It is a paper idol. It’s a destroyer. It’s a killer. Second Corinthians 3:6 says, it will murder. The Bible– the letter kills, murders, but the spirit – truth, love – makes alive. This is a murderer, and this dear woman is throwing it down. There’s where all lies deserve to be thrown. Down. Every enemy shall be put down.
Congregation: Cheers and applause
Jones: (Calms, then rises throughout) That is your enemy. The letter kills. The Bible murders. And up there in the valley, if you could know me, you would see those lovely c– convalescent homes, those senior citizen homes, those children’s home, the animal shelter. Just like that, there are three rabbits, by the way. Four. And the birds. It’s almost like the two birds that are there taken care of, that couldn’t even stand up, there’s pigeons that were laying all around here, dead, round this place, laying on their side. Do you know that every pigeon that’s been sent to us is now sitting lively, flapping its wings. (Calls out) God is a restorer.
Congregation: Cheers and applause
Jones: (Calms) How I appreciate Brother Heywood’s inspiration that he would write this. What a beautiful picture. People came out and sa– some people are saying out there, there’re too many pictures of Jones. I said, until people get away from the pictures of an unknown God, until they take away white angels and white Jesuses, my picture shall remain.
Congregation: Cheers and applause
Jones: It’s very well with me. It’s very well with me, if you want to put up a picture of Harriet Tubman. She was a mighty epistle. If you want to pit a– pit a– put up a picture of this black Moses, Harriet Tubman, but I’m tired of looking at Jesuses you never saw.
Congregation: Scattered applause and calls
Jones: So we’ll have a right. This is our house. You didn’t pay a penny of it. No Christian churches, no Bible-totin’ people paid a dime of this place, we worked and slaved, this is the people’s house, and we’ll put in here what pleases us.
Congregation: Cheers and applause
Jones: Say, well, that’s idolatry. No. I’m alive. You– An idol is something that’s dead. An idol means something that is dead. And if you think I’m dead, then you’re mighty, awfully blind, and you’re pretty deaf, (Cries out) because I’m lively in every body, in every atom, in every cell, of my bodily form, ahh, yes I am. Spirit!
Congregation: Cheers and applause
Jones: (Ministerial fervor) I haven’t slept for nine long days or nights. But I’m as lively– You want to take me on in a race? Because I can run and not be weary, I can walk and not be faint. (Voice drops) Oh, yes, I can.
Congregation: Cheers and applause
Jones: God would be a respecter of persons, if he would appear to a mother, Martha, and to Mary, and not to you. And he proved that he was no respecter of persons, ‘cause King James didn’t get all the truth out of it. But you have to have a preacher to bring the truth out. And I’ve brought it out, in this book, all the truth of it is in the first few pages. Then it shows you the lies in the back. And you better get the truth, ‘cause the truth will set you free. I’m just about finished now. (Pause) What happened when Mary and Martha saw Jesus put in the tomb? Bible says he was there for three days. That’s another lie. King James says he was there for three days. He was buried on Friday and supposed to’ve come out on Sunday. That means a day and a half. (Pause) Bible said Jesus, after he was baptized with the Holy Ghost in the river Jordan, a dove settled on his head, one uh, part of the Bible said he went over to the w– wilderness to be tempted [by] the devil for 40 days and 40 nights. Right?
Congregation: Right.
Jones: Another writer in the same Bible said no. Three days after he was tempt– after he was baptized, he was over in Cana of Galilee, to– at a wedding feast, turning water into wine. Now you can’t be in a wilderness for 40 straight days and 40 nights, and yet three days after you’re baptized be over 80 miles away at Cana of Galilee turning water into wine. What was he doing? Same thing I did this time. How many were here when I changed pitcher after pitcher after pitcher of water into wine?
Congregation: Scattered applause
Jones: (Voice rises throughout) That’s what I was doing. I wasn’t in no wilderness moo– fooling ‘round with no devil. I don’t know any devil. There is no place for the devil. I recognize no spirit but God. God is the only power that be. All powers that be are ordained of God, and there is no power but of God. I wouldn’t talk to no devil for 40 days or 40 nights. Maybe your Jesus would, but I don’t. I’m talking life to my children. There’s no devil around me.
Congregation: Scattered applause and calls
Jones: I’m sure shakin’ up folk.
Congregation: Scattered applause and calls
Jones: (clears throat) (calms) I (unintelligible word) no time to talk to no devil for 40 days and 40 nights. I won’t give a devil 40 seconds. There’s only one kinda devil. Two-legged.
Congregation: Stirs, then light applause
Jones: Devil is a state of consciousness. Satan is a state of S– uh, Saturn uh, vibration, and it’s too complicated to get into, it isn’t a– no such thing as a personality. And he looked around at Peter one time, and he said, Peter, you’re a rock. I’m gonna build a church on you. Another time he looked at Peter and he said, Get thee behind me, Satan, ‘cause he was in a state of uh, aggravation and unbelief and uh, cynicism and ugly old morose nasty spirit. You know, you’ve seen a lot of devils like that.
Congregation: Stirs
Jones: He looked around at S– Peter, and he said, Satan, get thee behind me. Because Satan isn’t a man, he’s a state of mind.
Congregation: Stirs
Jones: Well, anyway. (Pause) And Jesus is not to be looked after, after the flesh. You’re to know no many after the flesh, after he’s gone, not even Jesus. That’s what Paul told you. Know no man after the flesh, after he’s gone, (deliberate) not even Jesus. What happened now? In the tomb, they were supposed to be laid. Jesus. He never even went to a tomb, actually, he went to India. (Short laugh) But I won’t get into that, that’s too complicated.
Congregation: Delayed stirring, then applause
Jones: I had some good followers in that day, ‘cause this a greater day than Jesus’ day, these are the– these are the greater things. Jesus said, these things shall you do, and greater. This is a greater day than Jesus. He said, these things shall you do, and greater, because I go to the Father. Actually, Jesus didn’t actually die there. (Pause) Joseph of Aramathea, they just were good disciples, and they had him drug well. They had him drugged well. And they took him out, paid the soldiers, slipped him away, and he went to India, and he did a lot of teaching over there before they finally got to him.
Congregation: Stirs
Jones: I don’t care whether you believe it or not. I know, ‘cause I was there.
Congregation: Calls and applause
Jones: But anyway, what happened– This is the glorious thing that did happen (claps hands slowly, rhythmically), because he moved out of the contact of that woman, and for a period of time he was gone. And somebody else moved into that hundredfold consciousness, because in Jesus’ day, there was more than one body. He moved out of the Israel Palestine area, and down the road, they were walking, Mary Martha [Mary Magdalene], saying where have they laid our Jesus. He’s in the tomb, and they were talking – your Bible tells you the story – and they were saying they’ve taken our Jesus away, and laid him in grave clothes. And a man came up to them and was listening to them and consoling their heart and comforting them, and they said, he was a gardener. But your Bible tells you, it was God. It was Jesus in another body. It was the hundredfold in another body. Though Jesus was in one body, but it hadn’t– it wasn’t the same body, because they would’ve known Jesus. That’s the way I had to work a miracle here, and transmit to this man, ‘cause sometime maybe I’ll be away, because I have other sheep which are not of this fold, and I have work to do to prepare mansions for you, not up there, but out someplace else in the world, and some of you might think that I was not present, so I just showed you, though this young man did not look anything like me, yet he was me, because he had my mind (Cries out) and my spirit.
Congregation: Cheers and applause
Jones: (Ministerial tone) I put my law into his heart, and I put my spirit in his consciousness, and I put my words in his mouth, and I put my mind in his body. (Pause) (Calms) Well, that’s what I did then in that day, down by the way. They said, oh, where’ve they taken him, but he appeared in a different color, no doubt, different hair color, different eye color, because they didn’t know him. They called him the gardener. And your Bible said, it was the very same Jesus, and the very same God. (Voice rises throughout with ministerial rhythm) God always has had a body, God always will have a body, he said, lo, I am with you. He didn’t say, it will be with you, he didn’t say some thing will be with you, he said, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world, I will not leave you nor forsake you, never, no never. All may change, but Jesus never, heaven and earth may pass away, but my word shall not pass away.
Congregation: Cheers and applause
Jones: (Calms, then rises throughout) My Word, the divine economy of socialism, God is here to stay. It’s had a body forever, and it always will have a body. If they woulda mown me down with a machine gun out here today, if they were to burn me out here and make nothing but ashes, in five minutes, I would be standing here. In five minutes, I would be speaking here. I said it, and I will keep my Word. I said I cannot fail, and I promise you, you will never lose if you follow me.
Congregation: Cheers and applause
Jones: (Calms, then rises throughout) Blessed, blessed. I have proven my work. (Pause) I have proven my work. (Pause) The last weekend that I was here, I called out dozens, because it wasn’t the time for preaching. It was a time to heal. Today, I’ve given you words that, if you will think on them, if you will just look at me, and think on what I am, you will spring up, wellsprings of glory will spring up within your soul. The growths that are there will begin to shrink up and die. The arthritis that is making you in aggravation and pain will– Suddenly, there’ll be warm flashes going up and down your back and into your shoulders and into your knees, (cries out) even now, while I’m sitting here.
Congregation: Cheers and applause
Jones: (Intense, but calm) I’ve got the power. I’ve got the power. If someone wants to take it, I’ve got the power, even though they’re in a cast or in a brace to take it, if they have that faith to take it and move it right now, and be just as perfectly normal as they were. Oh, yes, I have, ‘cause I know what I am. I’ve got the power. (Pause) (glossolalia)
Archie Ijames: Yes, yes, indeed. Thank you. (Laughs) Thank you.
Jones: Glory. (Pause) (Voice rises throughout) Look and live, my brother. Look and live, my sister. Say, I don’t want to look at a God like this. You didn’t want to look at Jesus, they said he was a man of sorrows acquainted with grief, he had no comeliness, no beauty that you would desire him, the foxes had dens and the birds had nests, but the Son of Man had no place. You didn’t desire him then, but it’s the same Jesus, and it’s the very same God.
Congregation: Applause
Jones: (Conversational) Hmm. It’s rough, isn’t it, the truth is rough. It’ll shake you to the shoes.
Congregation: Responds. Quietens
Jones: Peace and love. (Pause) Peace and love. It’s very well now. I do feel something in my heart this September. I want us to get through September. I want to ask you, if you will, before I go into of the last healing phases, if you will give something above your commitment. This is not your commitment. It won’t do you any good. But there is a way to rebuke the devourer. It was said, the only time it’s ever been spoken this month, ten dollars, it’s a way to rebuke the devourer. It’s a way to maintain blessings. How many in this room will stand to your feet and say, I’ll help you pre– get the food, Father, I’ll give over and above my commitment, a ten dollar “prove me” offering, I’ll give it now. I’ll stand on my feet. How many will do it? Quickly. You must do it quickly. (tape edit)
Jones: –(unintelligible fragment) God, you say I worship God because he created me out there, the Skygod. And yet the earth is filled with dung. Two out of three babies go to bed hungry, according to President [Richard] Nixon. Wars, rumors of war, race against race, Irish against Irish, black against black, the world filled with pain. I’ve brought you no pain. Everyone that comes near me gets life and healing and uh, deliverance and freedom. Yet people say, well, you gotta worship– you gotta love your daddy, because your daddy brought you into the world. No, you don’t, you’re not to know any man after the flesh. Some of you had daddies that brought you in because they were drunk. You’re not supposed to worship your daddy, because he’s your daddy. You’re only supposed to respect your daddy if he’s a good daddy. Well, we’ve got a good daddy here.
Congregation: Applause
Jones: Blessings. The unknown God never helped you. But this house has helped you. You never had a promise that you’d never be lonely, that you’d never be homeless. You never had the Skygod promise you that. But the God that took upon flesh and bones, not the Creator– I never said I would create you, I said I’d save you. I said I would re-create you, I would re-form you, I said I would save you, and that I do. But you worship somebody that’s brought nothing but pain, and yet you said he’s out there, he’s got all-power. Yet he made some people black and some people poor and some people rich and some people cripple, and yet you worship him. I say we worship only God that we can see, because what we see is what we’ll get.
Congregation: Scattered applause
Jones: (clears throat) I warn you, you better not look to anything else. Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God. You’ve got to see God in the earth, because what you see, you’ll be like, when you see him, you will be like him, when he appears, you shall be like him. (Pause) The Skygod has everybody worshipping him today, and yet the people are going to bed hungry. There’s wars, famines, an earthquake yesterday that swallowed up several poor Manchurians. Earthquakes in diverse places. And yet you said he had all power. You said, the devil did that. Who made the devil? (Pause) God made the devil, supposedly. Lucifer was the most beautiful angel, right? I’ve got to get this in, because it’s the difference between life and death. I want you to reflect on what I preach today. I want you to testify to what you’ve seen and heard today. I want you to write me a little letter on what message you got out, and I want you to say what you’re willing to do for this revelation of God. Where you think we ought to go, what we ought to do, where we ought to be, whether we should st– take leave of this country, whether we should flee from the wrath to come, whether we should get up now in the cave in Redwood Valley, where? I want you to reflect, because there’s a mystery test on this assembly today. I’ve never asked you to write until this weekend. You must write what you heard, what I said between the words, what I said between the lines, what I said in parables, what was a mystery of the truth that I was bringing to you. (Pause) Oh, please listen, because this test– uh, you say, I can’t write. I’ll read it if you can’t write, if you try. (Pause) And if you try, no matter who tries, you will not lose the test. You’ll not fail the exam, if you try. But it is a test– I’ve never asked you in all my life, have I, to do this? Wake up, now. Wake that sister up there, she sets, blood pressure problems, you need to stay awake. (Pause) You must hear, and you must perceive and you must understand. What am I saying about God? God is a principle. What is this principle, the rod and staff that’s in my hand? (Dramatic whisper) What is it? What am I? (Quiet) You must know. And what is God? And what is love? And how can you have love? Only by a Pentecostal socialistic economy, where they had, as it was on the day of Pentecost, all things common. You’ve got to know the mystery. You’ve got to understand it, and understand it well. (Long pause) Better put that back on, unless somebody get concerned about their little red scarf and miss the words that I speak.
Voice in Congregation: Too soft
Jones: Yes, I’m all right. With or without a robe, I’m all right. Peace.
Congregation: Applause
Jones: (More emphatic, voice rises throughout) You’ve listened to fairy tales. Billy Graham, who stood before m– Brother Ijames and myself and Brother [Jack] Beam and several of our ministers, says, I don’t believe a word in the Bible. But he said, it’s the easiest living I know. That’s what he said. In the Claypool Hotel [in Indianapolis]. I heard him say it. (Pause) And you’ve listened to liars like that. I’ve heard the same from [A. A.] Allen, I’ve heard the same from even [Kathryn] Kuhlmann. (Pause) They tild– They tell you what they want you to tell [hear]. Some people come in here and say, if you would only bow before the Skygod. I’d have to be a liar to bow before anything that was smaller than me. I will only give obedience, only abeyance, only principle, I’ll give my life to anything that’s more loving than me. Until I see something more loving than me, I shall remain what I am, unchangeable, unchangeable perfecting love.
Congregation: Applause and cheers
Jones: (Voice drops) I will not bow to anything that’s unknown. We’re not to do it. Paul said, don’t bow before the unknown God. He said I perceive, you’re too superstitious, because you have an inscription to the unknown God. (Pause) You say, and Billy Graham will say, as he says every week, God in the beginning loved us. He loved us so much, he made us. If I’d been there, and left all alone in the universe, I wouldna made you. Say, where are you from? The first heaven. Another planet. A school of masters. (Pause) (sighs audibly) Aaah. Think on that. I come down here every now and then, but I evolved. And I’ve got to bring you up to a vibratory level. You’ve got– I’ve got to bring your electronic field up. You can’t go to where I’ve been from, until I get you up. You came down here out of your own willfulness. Now I want to get you back up. Oh, there’s little truths in that Bible, but you left another planet, another heaven, you left it, and I’ve got to raise your vibrations to be sensitive and loving and kind and sacrificial as I am, as socialistic as I am, and then when I get your vibrations up, you will leave the earthbound state. Unless you do overcome, you’ll keep going back through matter, ‘cause your mind is now already reaching an eternal state, so you’ll keep going back through matter. That means you’ll have a body after a body after a body. John the Baptist was who? Elias. Jesus said, if you can receive it, this John the Baptist is Elias, which was and is to come . So if John the Baptist had to come back, and he’s still back here today, (Pause) then you sure are gonna have to come back, some of you, stealing, living here with other people’s– (short laugh)
Congregation: Laughter
Voices: (unintelligible)
Jones: (Conversational) That’s the mystery. As in Adam, all die, so in Christ shall all be made alive. Who was Adam? Know some of these things, see if you can write them to me. The first Adam was a living soul, the second Adam was a quickening spirit. Who could make up for Adam? Only Adam. So Jesus was Adam. (Pause) If you’re gonna it by uh, uh, figurative principle. It’s not uh, a literal Adam or a literal Jesus, but the principle’s there. Only Adam could make up for the mistake of Adam. Only you can make up for the mistake of you. As a tree lie– falls, so shall it lie. Whatsoever a man sows, that shall he also reap. Listen, dear, I didn’t ask you to stay. But one day, you’re gonna need me to heal you of female cancer. You’ve had several bouts with felmale de– female disorder. Now if you want to go home, go home. But I am gonna preach here at least another five or ten minutes.
Congregation: Delayed applause
Jones: Now last Saturday, I let you out at four o’clock. Last Sunday, I let you out at– before three. (Pause) Now today, I’ve got the difference between life and death. I’ve got the pearl of great price. I’ve got the treasure hid, and it’s only by looking and listening that you’re gonna be able to live, and if you listen closely, you’ll find life, and you’ll come out of mortality, and your mortality will put on immortality, and your corruptible will put on incorruptibility.
Congregation: Applause
Jones: (glossolalia) (clears throat) And there will be a reincarnation, as long as you keep earthbound in capitalism and selfishness. That’s why I’m ha– trying so hard. It’s painful to become sensitive, but when you become sensitive, then you will be released from your earthboundness, and you’ll move on to an advanced field of teachers on another planet, which Brother Cordell can point to you, any night. He’s seen it when a glorious revelation came, even the dogs did exactly what they were told by revelation, everything was ordered, every sound for the next 30 minutes was ordered, exactly what every dog would do, what every thing would do in the field, what every sign would happen. And then it showed where we were going to, the first heaven. It’s actually not the first heaven, it’s the ninth (short laugh) level, but that’s too much. I’ll talk about first heaven, ‘cause you can understand from kindergarten to the first grade. I’m giving you a lot of stuff that’s not bunko, honey, I’m telling you truth now, if you want the truth. I told you I’d give you the truth, and the truth would set you free.
Congregation: Applause
Jones: But you have to come to the place where you don’t care whether you’re going there or not. You have to just die out to self, where you have no desire to do anything but to give. And then you go. When you lose your life, you find it. You’ll lift from this earth plane on this state of particular geographic appearances, and you’ll move into a time dimension that will move you many, many light years from here in the twinkling of an eye. Nonetheless, the only way you can get there it to overcome. Revelations 3:12 says to him that overcometh, I will make a pillar in the temple of the house of God, and you will go no more out into the earth. Your old Bible speaks of it, said God, the principle-bearer. Said Jacob have I loved, Esau have I hated. From when? Before they were born. Why would the principle-bearer, God the Master Ship degree, why would he hate somebody before they were born, unless they’d lived in another body? (Pause) Right?
Scattered in Congregation: Right.
Jones: And you will continue to reincarnate until you overcome and become socialistic. There is no God that made us, we have combusted. We have developed from the lower mineral fields, lower energy levels in to the higher schools of evolution. That’s why nobody can come down from that heaven and lift you, you’ve got to lift yourself. You’ve got to work out your own salvation. When you rise on a high vibration, you’ll understand, and then you’ll be one with that symphony. Some people can go into a great symphony, and it’s boring to them, it’s like clatter. They don’t like classical music, because they have no appreciation for the souls that died and sweat, some of those like the blind (mispronounces) [Pytor Ilyich] Tchaikovsky that was even supposed to be– wasn’t it? Was it, uh, Tchaikovsky, that was supposed to’ve been part Negro? Hmm?
Voices in Congregation: too soft
Jones: [Ludwig von] Beethoven, rather. Beethoven. You c– You don’t know their lives, you don’t know their suffering, so the symphonies they play, you don’t appreciate, ‘cause you’re not sensitive to where they are. And when you get sensitive to that next realm, you’ll lift from this plane, and you’ll go to a place where there’s no sickness, no death, no separation, no disease, and no physical restrictions. You can transmit, just like I did like there– I had to limit myself to come into a body. It was very difficult for me to come into a body. But you saw me there functioning in a real way, where I sent– my body, no doubt, shook under the p– pressure of it, but I was transmitting a part of my mind to that body. (Pause) I can take you to a place. No, there’s no Skygod that made us, no– that old dumb story, that fairy tale that God was lonely. Who would want to worship somebody that’d be lonely. If I were up there, or you were up there, you wouldn’t’ve made anybody. You’d say I wouldn’t put anybody else in the pain that I’m in, but that crazy God, Billy Graham said, made angels, and then he didn’t like the angels he made, so he made a more beautiful angel, called him Lucifer, and that most beautiful angel named Lucifer rebelled and took a third of his angels away. He was so stupid, God couldn’t even make an angel that was capable of following him. (Pause) And yet you say that Skygod’s all perfect, he’s all wise, he’s all knowledge, he’s perfection personified, and yet he didn’t have enough sense to make ano– a– uh, his most beautiful angel was smarter than he was. He wouldn’t put up with it. Who would? In this old concept of God, people say, I want to go to heaven. I notice nobody’s trying to get there. Last night, I said, anybody wants to go to heaven – I was preaching a harder sermon than today – I said, stand up, I’ll send you there, right now.
Congregation: Laughter and applause
Jones: There wasn’t one. Not a soul stood up. I couldn’t beg them up. I said, I’ll send you right there. You’ll leave your body. Just stand up. I said, please. There wasn’t nobody wanted to go.
Congregation: Laughter
Jones: ‘Cause I’ve got the power to do it. You’ve seen them fall in the aisles, and I’ve resurrected them. Even when they were mean and nasty. One white young man, mast– nasty as he could be, but I brought him back. (Pause) Dramatization of this truth. I brought him back. But after he’d learned a lesson, and it shook and writhed like a say– a snake, and frothed at the mouth, because he’d been a smart-aleck, and not appreciated the black congregation like he ought to. You were here, you saw it. Most of you saw when he dropped dead. One dropped dead when he was not supposed to touch this altar. He dropped dead. You were here. How many was here? (Pause) Oh, tt’s happened over and over and over and over and over again. They’ve fallen dead, they’ve been carried up with bowel movement caked on their legs, and I’ve brought them back when they didn’t look like it was possible to put them together. They looked like Ezekiel’s dry bones. They looked like their bones was separated from their skin. Their eyes were sunk in their head, their bowel movement cleared out, caked on their legs, but I put ‘em back together again. There’s nobody in the universe that can work like I can. (clears throat)
Voices in Congregation: That’s right.
Congregation: Applause
Jones: Now hear me, ‘cause you’ll not go through this every week. There’ll be very, very rare times that there’ll be this long a service. I’ve given you all my truth in one package, if you’ve had an ear to hear, what the body of spirit and truth has had to say to the church. (glossolalia) This is the body that’ll bring you salvation. (Pause ) Peace. Peace, Deborah, keep quiet and be seated. (Pause) No, I don’t know her, but she better be seated. Peace. (Pause) This truth is in– imperative. Now you’ve worshipped the false God and a false Bible, you worshipped a God just because he was out there. You’re supposed to worship him because he made you. That’s no reason to worship somebody. You worship somebody because they prove themselves to you. They have to prove a Savior-ship to you, they’ve got to be a good father. My so-called natural father, who wasn’t my father at all, but he was in the Ku Klux Klan. I don’t respect him, (pause) because he was a bad father. (Speaks quietly, then rises throughout) Who is my father, who is my mother, who is sister, my brother, but he that doeth the will of the Father or Truth.
Congregation: Scattered affirmations
Jones: (Conversational) Now (clears throat) Billy Graham says God was lonely, he makes angels, then he make a bad job of making angels, so he makes a– the most beautiful angel that turned out to be the– Lucifer, the devil. And that devil leads away his angels, and then he gets tired and he makes a man. Stupid story. I don’t know how you ever believed that stupid story. Then he made a man named Ada– Adam. A-dam. (Tsks) There’s a mystery in that, but there was no man. (Calls out) Wake up. (Whistles)
Congregation: Laughter
Jones: Okay. Shift. Shift your knees, shift your bottom, shift it. I– I will promise you that I’ll finish– and it’s now ten of six, I will finish before six.
Congregation: Stirs
Jones: Peace. (Taps mike) And I want you to read back to me what I’ve given you, because it’s a difference between your life and your death. Some of you are down in jobs as stewards, and you’ve been in kitchen work and you’re on staff work, and you don’t get to hear some of this truth, so today, you’ve had a chance to hear it, and I want to reflect on what you’ve heard. And you won’t need to be embarrassed, no matter how badly you spell, or how badly you write. You’re to write back what you’ve got out of this sermon. And I’ll read every blessed one of them. (Pause) And I’ll separate the sheep from the goats. Peace. Peace. No clapping. I didn’t come to get your adulation. I’m in a consciousness higher than that. They say, worship God. I don’t want you to worship. I want you to work with God. I’m in a higher consciousness than Jesus. He said, wash my feet. King James says that Jesus said to them, the poor woman, put a whole year’s salary, broke it on his feet to alabaster, and the uh– Judas said, we could’ve used this money in the treasury to feed the poor, and Jesus was supposed to’ve said, according to King James, the poor you’ll have with you always. Oh, not me. I’m in a greater consciousness than that. I wouldn’t let you waste any alabaster, no perfume on me. No, you don’t have to adulate me, you don’t have to clap for me, you don’t have to say Hosannah to me. That’s why– People said, well, why would Lucifer ever leave heaven? You get on a– that old illustration is, you stand on so– uh, somebody up on a barrel. They once asked the devil, somebody asked him, said, why did you leave heaven? Said, I’ll tell you. Said, you character, said get up on this barrel and I’ll show you why I left heaven. He got up there– Lucifer got up on the barrel, rather, and he said, now you go around it. What he say, what do you want me to do that for? Said, I just told you to do it. You go around there and sing, Amazing grace, amazing grace, hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah, and he said, when you get through ten thousand years, you’re gonna have ten thousand more to sing God’s praise. Keep on going– He said, I’m tired. He’d done it about fifty laps, and he said, I’m tired of doing this. He said, that’s exactly what happened to me. Said, I got tired of runnin’ around the throne, singing Hosannah, Hosannah, Hosannah. And you been singin’ about it, you’re gonna go to heaven, you’re gonna stand before the throne of God, and you could stand– I know some of you folk, you can’t hardly sit here today, and I’m giving you the key to life. But you can’t hardly sit here, and I’m gonna feed you free, if you want to afterwards, and you can’t hardly sit here, and you talkin’ about me, you gonna up around some throne, why you folk’ll be– you’ll be gripin’ and you’ll be grumblin’ in twenty minutes.
Congregation: Applause
Jones: (clears throat) You’ll say, I’m too tired. I’m tired of this. Well, that’s the stupidity of the whole story. So he makes Adam. Now I’ll finish with this. I’ve still got very short uh– I’m on– I’m only– it’s only nine minutes of six. And Adam was made out of the dust. And then he spit on it. And he breathed into him. And then Adam wasn’t complete, and that’s why women are treated like dogs today. So he takes out a rib, that false God, the Bible God, takes out a rib, and he makes a woman. And she’s subject to him, just to do his pleasure. So she wants to go and feed the old fool.
Congregation: Laughs
Jones: Come on. That’s why women are getting half the salary today. That’s why women don’t get treated like men. Because the Bible makes women less important than men. That’s– The Bible makes black less important than white. (Calls out) Oh yes.
Congregation: Scattered calls
Jones: (Voice rises throughout) Anyway, she goes out and she gets– Uh, God tells her now, you’re– one tree you’re not to eat of. You can eat of the Tree of Life, but don’t you eat of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil, because the day you do, you’ll die. (Pause) And uh, she said why? Because, he said, your eyes will be open, you’ll become like God. You’re not to eat of that tree. (Pause) And– (short laugh) Said the day you do, you’ll die. She went out there, and Lucifer, now the most beautiful angel’s turned into a snake. He’s around a tree, and he says, come over here, Eve. Said, now– now that apple’s good., and if you eat that apple, you’re not gone die. That God’s just jealous. He don’t want you to have as much sense as he does. If you eat it, your eyes will be open and your understanding will be open. That’s what the Sat– the old snake said, the old devil said. God said, each– they each are gonna die. And the snake said, the day you eat, you’re gonna live. Well, she didn’t know evil from good anyway, so how would she know what to do? You tell a child to go out there and drive a car, he don’t know how to drive a car. He don’t know. You tell a child that’s just born, just barely walkin’, don’t walk through the street, he don’t know what a street is. You tell a lion not to eat a rabbit, lions just think they’re supposed to eat rabbits, they don’t know any better. That was just like Adam and Eve, tell ‘em not to do something. Eve didn’t know knowledge from good and evil. That stupid story, all of you oughta been able to see through it. She didn’t know right from wrong, so how would she know how to keep from doing right from wrong. So she goes out and she eats the apple, takes it home to her husband, he eats it, and they didn’t die. Who told the truth? The snake. The serpent told the truth, their eyes got open, they went to bed, they had two kids. Two children. Cain and Abel. Right?
Congregation: Right.
Jones: God messed up all the way along, that false Skygod messed up all the way through. He made C– uh, Adam, and then that failed on him, because Cain killed Abel with a jawbone of an ass. But Adam was the first man, right? Eve was the first woman, right? Only two, right?
Congregation: Right
Jones: Now what the hell– where’d that fool Cain go get his wife?
Congregation: Laughter and applause
Jones: Cain went over to the Land of what? Nod, and got a woman. Now, how could he get a woman, if Adam and Eve were the only two?
Congregation: Laughter
Jones: (In full throat) The first page of the Bible, you see it’s full of hot air. Just read one page, and you see it’s full of a lie. Why won’t you come to me, when I have never lied to you? I’ve given you nothing but truth, I’ve given you nothing but health, I’ve given you nothing but homes, happiness, jobs–
Congregation: Cheers and applause
Jones: (Voice intense but moderate, then calms throughout) And I said I combusted. I set up from the dirt, I arose. Out of the earth, I came. And I shape myself into a God-likeness so that you’d have a way, a pattern, you’d have a sign son to follow. I’ve given you a sign, like the ones in Moses’ day, the sign of the cloud by day and the sign of fire by night. I’ve given you a perfect copy that you can be able to get to the ninth dimension into the first heaven, to that beautiful planet. Ask him some night to show you how beautiful it is when it radiates through the sky. (Pause) Say, Father, if I follow you, I’ll have to throw away everything I’ve learned. What’ve you got to lose?
Congregation: Laughter, the light applause
Jones: (Voice rises throughout) Where are you today? (Pause) You go home and read Executive Order – it’s now five of six, I told you I’ll finish by six – Executive Order 11490 and 11647. You go home and read it. Right now, they’re preparing to set up a dictatorship – it’s already written into law – that will give the president power to move people wherever he wants to, to put them in concentration camps, to take over every street car line, over every transportation, over every farm, over every office, over every factory. He’ll put serial numbers and a mark of the beast right on you. You’ll not be anymore a person, you’ll be a number. And every black and brown and poor white will be done away with [see contextual note here]. It’s already in law. What’ve you got to lose? You say, I’ve got so much to lose. You’ve got nothing to lose but your chains. They didn’t even care last year, they didn’t even try to get the black vote. [John F.] Kennedy tried to get the black vote. [Lyndon] Johnson tried to get it. [Harry] Truman tried to get it. Last time, they told you openly, we don’t even care about the black vote.
Congregation: Scattered response.
Jones: They never wooed the blacks. Every black has been put off the Cabinet. There wasn’t a black that’s been entertained in the president’s office, not even the Senator that’s of the same party, black Senator [Edward] Brooke, he can’t even get a hearing, he can’t even get an interview with president. The time has come for the destruction of the black man, unless he frees himself from the burden of the black book, the curse of the white man’s religion, he must free himself.
Congregation: Applause
Jones: (Calms) Peace. (Pause) The slave system, the monetary system, the love of money which is the root of all evil. That’s the mark of the beast, the dollar, the almighty dollar. You’re gonna have to free yourself from that mark of the beast. (Pause) And is now four minutes of six. What will you do? I’ve never lied to you. Your Bible is full of lies. Your Skygod makes no sense. If he was all perfect, why don’t he come down and something? If he can heal every body in a minute, why doesn’t he heal ‘em all? Why’d he make all these different races to fight and to kill, why does he bring some into the world born blind? (Pause) I don’t bring anyone in born blind. Anyone that’s had a stroke under my ministry, has been healed. And those of you that’ve come with your crippling desisions– your diseases, all of you’ve improved since you’ve come to me. Though you were dead, now you live.
Congregation: Affirms
Jones: (Calls out) I’m a savior. Not the creator, don’t confuse me, I’m the savior. There are many saviors come up out of Zion, I am a savior come up out of Zion.
Congregation: Scattered applause
Jones: (Calms) Come up from the earth. Why do you listen to this last, as I say, yesterday, a white woman? That shows you how much murder there is in the hearts of people today. You say, we couldn’t give up what we know. What we know has brought us to this place. People telling us to think about heaven, the furniture of heaven and the temperature of hell. That’s why we’re so careless today, so godless, so heartless. That white woman on the Miami tower. Her heart was broken, lonely, alone, afraid. She’s up there, wantin’ somebody to care, and hundreds of people, they said, white, every race, saying, jump, jump, jump, you bitch. Jump. (Pause) They do it all over America. Read every news story. One in New York recently uh, was trying to get them [to] jump off of thirty-seventh floor. Jump. There’s no heart, there’s no love, everybody killing everybody. So what’ve you got to lose. Does your churches have any love? Does your preacher talking about the Skygod? Will he give you a ride? Will he give you any buses? Has he given you any of those homes? Has he given you help? Does he go into the court and the jails and set you free? Does his– Does his Sky Jesus do you any good? (In full throat) No. I’m the only one that’ll help you. I’m the only one that cares about you. I’m the only one that loves you.
Congregation: Cheers and applause
Jones: (Calms) Peace. I know some of you’ll never come back. But that will be your loss. The truth is hard. It’s hard. And I’m preaching my heart out, but look at that 93-year-old before you do, and see how healthy he looks. Look at what I do for my people. He was in jail, and they wanted to– stuck a several thousand dollars bail on him, and I paid it that minute, and I said, you won’t go back, and he didn’t. That’s the kind of Father I am. What kind of Father have you been serving lately? Oh, you don’t, you don’t. you can’t give me any answer, because you know I’m telling you the truth. Peace.
Congregation: Applause
Jones: It’s one minute of six. (Pause) One minute of six. If they would tell a white woman to jump, and then when the police try to rescue her, and the fire department rescue her, throw bricks at them, what’re they gonna do to the black?
Congregation: Scattered applause
Jones: Said, oh, well– it’ll never happen. They just barely keep it from happening now. You were in slave chains, don’t you remember, until Harriet Tubman throwed this down and used it for toilet paper. She said, I won’t listen to anything that is as full of lies like this, that tells me to be subject to a master. Harriet Tubman threw it down. And we were lynched as late as 1942. And now it’s sweeping back again. They’d like to make slaves of us again. Just yesterday’s paper – and it’s a half a minute – yesterday’s paper in Detroit, a black couple, showed them on all most of your papers, they had to leave their neighborhood because they had been burned, their children poisoned, their dog stabbed to death. America, 1973, Christian America, Jehovah’s America, Bible America, 1973. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain by following me. (Calls out) Why don’t you deny yourself? Why don’t you deny yourself? Why don’t you say yes to this cause and no to that slave system? (Calms, then rises throughout) I thank you. I thank you. I thank you, because my words are spirit, and my words are life. This is a revolution that will heal you, this is a Father that will save you, this is one that will shepherd you through every storm.
