As time stretches between the years of Peoples Temple’s existence and the present, a number of the once-contemporary references in Peoples Temple documents and the lesser known names to whom Jim Jones refers in Temple audiotapes become more obscure.
One example of this is the King Alfred Plan, a reported government program to confine blacks and political dissidents during times of unrest. During the 1970s, knowledge of the plan in black urban areas was commonplace, but today, its meaning is as murky as its origin.
With that in mind, this website will add contextual notes, written either by the site’s editors or located elsewhere on the web, to some of the more obscure references, especially as the Temple use them. We invite visitors to the website to write us for suggestions of additional notes.
