Re BQMRA teletype to FBIHQ and San Francisco this date regarding [name deleted].

The following is San Francisco’s analysis of the information set forth in retel. No specific leads are being set out at this time. However, suggested leads are noted which should be covered depending upon the results of further interviews with [name deleted].

San Francisco indices, both general and RYMUR, are negative re [name deleted].

Re [name deleted] visitor’s visa:

US Department of State (USDS), Passport Office, should

be contacted to determine if [name deleted] is in the U.S. under a visitor’s visa.

Re [name deleted] contact with PT numbers:

San Francisco is not in possession of information which indicates when various members left the US for Guyana. Since [name deleted] claims contact in 1974 in Guyana with Paula Adams (a female, white, DOB January 3, 1949) and Debbie Touchette (a female, white [black], DOB [withheld]), the USDS Passport Office should be checked to determine whether passports were issued. Adams would have been 25 years old and Touchette 19 years old at time of contact.

Re PT contact with Government in Guyana (GOG):

From information available, it appears Adams was close to GOG officials and could have passed along [name deleted] critical remarks to further ingratiate herself and the PT with the GOG. Further, it appears Jim Jones and the PT did court the GOG to further Jones’ position. Seemingly, the only help the PT could have been to the GOG would be of a financial nature through payoffs.

Re narcotics:

PAGE THREE SF 89-250 UNCLAS

From information available, the Prime Minister of Guyana is Forbes Burnham, not Biernan as reported in retel. There have been rumors that boats owned by the PT were used to transport narcotics. However, none of these rumors have been substantiated. San Francisco recalls, but cannot locate the specific serial at this point, that a ham operator intercepted a call from one of the PT radios to one of the boats owned by the PT which was experiencing mechanical problems to not allow anyone to board the boat and to sink the boat if anyone attempted boarding it.

Re body count:

One Jonestown survivor, Hyacinth Thrash, slept through the “White Night” due to illness, waking up the next morning to find the bodies. She returned to her cabin and awaited

GOG troops. She gave no indication that previous troops entered Jonestown and killed any of the members.

San Francisco is not aware of when the first U.S. officials entered Jonestown after the “White Night”, but believes a vice consul from Caracas named Martin was in Jonestown at an early point.

San Francisco cannot comment on any other aspects of retel as it concerns information which has not come to our attention before during investigation. San Francisco strongly suggests the use of a polygraph on [name deleted] at an early stage.

Armed and dangerous. Suicidal tendencies.
