Pursuant to an earlier arrangement made with Swiss authorities Peoples Temple accounts maintained with Swiss banks would be blocked only until January 15, 1979, unless a formal request from the United States Government is received relative to further action against these accounts.

On January 11, 1979 the Criminal Division of the Department advised that a formal request for disclosure of records

maintained by Swiss banks in the name of Peoples Temple was en route to the Government in Switzerland in care of Dr. Frei; such request being mailed in Washington, D.C., this date. Confirmation that this request is en route is made by State Department cable to the American Embassy, Bern, this date.

Legat, Bern advise appropriate officials of action being taken by the United States Government in this regard.
