Summary:
This news tape includes a few brief news items – earthquakes in California and Japan, an infestation of locusts in Somalia and Ethiopia, unrest in Iran, continuing trouble in Zaire, upcoming elections in Colombia – and a historical piece on the little-reported events in US history, all of which are related to minority populations. But the bulk of the tape is a lengthy commentary with detailed analysis of the border dispute between communist governments of Vietnam and Kampuchea (formerly known as Cambodia). Jones reads several perspectives on the origins of the conflict, including both socialist and “bourgeoisie … monopoly capitalism” points of view, “and then you can make up your own mind.”
There are few administrative announcement on this tape, and Jones interrupts the reading of the news only once, to require that people limit their use of knives for work on the agricultural project – and to get clearance for that use – since there have been too many accidents.
