Murphy: Yes.
Jones: What does that name mean to you?
Murphy: It used to be my surname.
Jones: That’s why I was giving it to you. ‘Cause some people think that when people come in, name takers who take their names to give ‘em leaflets, which I never see, they think “Well, they get the name.” But I’m telling you your name before? The name you put down here though would be – if you put down anything – would be Ethel Murphy.
Murphy: Yeah.
Jones: But in each service, I tell several what their names have been. Ethel Hightower.
Murphy: Yeah.
Congregation: (murmurs)
Jones: (cries out) God Almighty!

You said once, in your heart, my child’s daddy and I separated, when my child was two years old–
Murphy: Yes.
Jones: And my hubby married twice after we separated.

Murphy: Yes.
Jones: You got a new heart, child, so just rejoice! Praise God!
Congregation: (Cheers and applause)
Murphy: (cries, moans)
Woman: (sings) (organ music playing)

Jones: I see. Do you have anything to do with any office at 70 Hereding or Heading Street? Just say yes or no.
Hill: Yes.
Jones: Mm-hmm [Yes]. That’s sufficient. I don’t know anything about you, is that correct?
Hill: That’s correct.
Jones: Uh, I’m not familiar with your de– your life in any way. I see you at some time, locking a garage door with your left hand.

Hill: Correct.
Jones: Do you believe that God works through me in a mighty way?
Hill: Yes, I do.
Jones: That’s what it takes.
Hill: Yes, I– oh, I (unintelligible)
Jones: Just that. Just that. Just that. (glossolalia)
Hill: (moans)

Archie Ijames: (speaking close by) Hallelujah.
Jones: If you find yourself in a living room with a blue carpet, the moment you do, reach down and touch it with this cloth. Will you do that?
Gomez: Yes.
Jones: Hands clasped. Your husband is older in years, isn’t he?
Gomez: Yes.
Jones: Hands clasped. He’s older than you, I would gather.
Gomez: Yes.
Jones: Hands clasped. That means to change your hands. Uh– He– Youth– There’s some problem in his back.

(sings) You (unintelligible) alone to bear it all
Just ask for strength and keep right on toiling
Though the teardrops fall
We have the joy of being so sure
Our heavenly father
He always answers prayers
Oh you know
I’m so glad my father
Just my love we can bear–
(organ playing)

Jones: Sister Williams. (Tape edit) Is there a Sister Williams on 88th somewhere? 88th. Your hands clasped. God. In your heart, in your heart, you say that I am God sent.

Williams: Okay.
Jones: So you don’t need to tell me. If I can tell you what’s in your mind and your heart, then I can certainly reach you.
Williams: Okay.
Jones: God Almighty. Are hands clasped? (Hums one note) You have been so good– You’ve been so good to take care of another loved one ‘til you’ve worn your own heart down. Your heart has been giving you trouble today. The Spirit of God has come to you to build your faith. Said, faith does not come by reading, as much as we love the truths that are in the Bible. The truths must be brought out by a prophet. How can we hear without a preacher, how can he preach ‘lest he be sent? Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God (Romans 10:14-17, “How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report? So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”). Hebrews 4:12 tells us what the word is. Says it will discern the thoughts, and it will know the intents of the heart. It’s sharper than a two-edged sword. My sister, I shall reach into your thoughts so that I can build your faith–
Williams: Yeah. Thank you.
Jones: You are from Louisiana?
Williams: Yes.
Jones: Been here since 1951?

Jones: Did you have any– I see. Well. (Pause) There’s one that would’ve had twins in your family.

Jones: Now I lift your body, I reach out to touch you. I touch your chest through the Holy Spirit of God. I move the pain and the difficulty from your abdomen and your chest. I lift it now in the name of Jesus. Do you hear me, sister? I lift it in the name of Jesus. Because I come in the name of Jesus. I’m walking and talking in the name of Jesus, and I lift you! Lift your hands, sister. Breathe deeply. Now the difficulty should leave your body. It should leave your body. (Pause) Is it gone, darlin’?
Williams: (speaks quietly) Yes.
Jones: So thank God. Let’s thank God and praise him.
Congregation: (Applause)
Jones: Praise him! Praise him! Praise him! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Thank you, God Almighty.
(tape edit)

Mitchell: Yes.
Congregation: (murmurs)
Jones: Spirit of God, Spirit of God, Spirit of God, Spirit of God. I’m talking about the difficulty gets around here. Right around his chest. I’m gonna stop it down in the abdomen. ‘Cause the heart– just as sure as the world, you’da capsized– you like to fish?

Jones: I hear Davis Beldon, Beldon. Hands clasped. (glossolalia) I wear these glasses better to shut out carnal attitudes, faces, and so forth. I just put them down so that I can let my eye be single and concentrate upon your need. Said if your eye be single, then it’ll be filled with light (Matthew 6:22, “The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.” See also Luke 11:34). Who is Lambert, sister?

Woman: No.
Jones: You haven’t spoken to anyone else? You, brother, you haven’t mentioned her to anyone, and she hasn’t mentioned anyone to you?
Brother Calhoun: No.
Jones: All right. They’re sitting in different places. I’ll have to give you something else, now, too, to move further ‘cause I work through your mind as a channel. Not as telepathy, ‘cause you weren’t thinking about him. I’m going to bring two significant healings. Both your lives will be spared here today. Who’s Falcon?
Woman: My neighbor.
Jones: Another neighbor, huh?
Congregation: (Murmurs, laughs.)
Jones: You asked your neighbor and the neighbor in Oklahoma if he’s ever had any contact with Jim Jones. You’ll find out they haven’t. You understand?
Woman: Yes.
Jones: (glossolalia) Who’s Sister Reed?
Woman: A neighbor.
Jones: Another neighbor?

Woman: Yes, I do.
Jones: It’s very important. You’ve mentioned none of these people here today, is that correct?
Woman: That’s right.
Jones: Some of them were friends who were not your neighbors, and some were your neighbors. Some are your relatives. Each one of them must be in contact with me. Do you understand that?
Woman: Yes.
Jones: Sister, do you drink B– Borden’s whole milk?
Woman: Yes.
Jones: Have you lost your husband?
Woman: Yes.
Jones: I mean, he died.

Jones: He had some terrible difficulty in the chest, and he began to choke.
Woman: That’s right.
Jones: Turned blue – you never told anyone that – and he strangled to death.
Woman: That’s right.
Jones: (glossolalia) Strangely enough, sister, the agony of seeing that – you understand? – the agony of going through that with your husband has affected your heart. And you’ve had some difficulties in here also.
Woman: That’s right.
Jones: Now the Spirit’s going to st– going to take care of it. Right now, this better to hear– I did not know you, and you can ask this sister, she never told a soul about you. Announcer: She’s standing.
Jones: Lay the crutches down behind her, keep ‘em behind her. Keep ‘em behind her.
Announcer: She is coming forward down the aisle now. (Pause) She’s having a difficult time.
