Jones: Ethel Murphy, Ethel Murphy. Would the name Hightower mean anything to you? What would that mean to you?

Murphy: Yes.

Jones: What does that name mean to you?

Murphy: It used to be my surname.

Jones: That’s why I was giving it to you. ‘Cause some people think that when people come in, name takers who take their names to give ‘em leaflets, which I never see, they think “Well, they get the name.” But I’m telling you your name before? The name you put down here though would be – if you put down anything – would be Ethel Murphy.

Murphy: Yeah.

Jones: But in each service, I tell several what their names have been. Ethel Hightower.

Murphy: Yeah.

Congregation: (murmurs)

Jones: (cries out) God Almighty!

Congregation: (Applause and cheers)

Jones: Spirit. I see the aura of Texas. Texas. You’re associated with uh, Texas. Is that in your background?

Murphy: Yes.

Jones: Four. Four children.

Murphy: Yes.

Jones: One boy, three girls.

Murphy: That’s right.

Jones: Son–

Murphy: Yes.

Jones: –Jack Lacey on your mind.

Murphy: Yes, Yes, Yes. Yes. (laugh)

Jones: (cries out) Spirit! Who, he said, the word would discern the thoughts. God would discern the thoughts of the mind and know the intents of the heart (Hebrews 4:12, “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”). You said once, in your heart, my child’s daddy and I separated, when my child was two years old–

Murphy: Yes.

Jones: And my hubby married twice after we separated.

Murphy: Yes.

Jones: He is dead now.

Murphy: Yes.

Jones: His name was Hillary.

Murphy: Yes. Yes, yes!

Congregation: Praise God! (murmurs)

Jones: He was born in the spring of the year.

Murphy: Yes.

Jones: March.

Murphy: Yes.

Jones: Your second husband is dead too.

Murphy: Yes.

Jones: God Almighty. There’s a lady you know that– from British Honduras–

Murphy: Yes, I do.

Jones: (Pause) This woman has a son named Ronald.

Murphy: Yes.

Jones: The right hand– The right hand is in trouble. Tell her that the one that cares about our diseases is at Hoover and Alvarado.

Murphy: Yes.

Congregation: (Applause and response)

Jones: Spirit. (Pause) Just a moment. But more than anything, I’m tal– I’m talking about the problem you’ve been having in the chest, right here in the chest area.

Murphy: Yes.

Jones: It’s been building up even here today.

Murphy: Yes, it has.

Jones: But I’ve come. I’ve come to break all the bonds that hold you.

Murphy: Yes.

Congregation: (Responds)

Jones: To loose the heavy burdens.

Murphy: Yes.

Jones: I’ve come to set the captive free!

Murphy: Yes!

Congregation: (Responds)

Jones: I’ve come to give you a new heart right now!

Congregation: (Louder response)

Murphy: Yes!

Jones: Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!

Congregation: (Cheers and applause)

Jones: Now it’s gone! Now it’s gone! Now you don’t have any heaviness, do you? The heaviness all gone now?

Murphy: Yes.

Jones: You got a new heart, child, so just rejoice! Praise God!

Congregation: (Cheers and applause)

Murphy: (cries, moans)

Woman: (sings) (organ music playing)

(tape edit)

Jones: –someone by the name of Hill in San Jose, is there? Hill? Helen? Helen. Hands clasped.

(woman hums in background)

Jones: Is that Santa Clara County?

Hill: Yes.

Jones: I see. Do you have anything to do with any office at 70 Hereding or Heading Street? Just say yes or no.

Hill: Yes.

Jones: Mm-hmm [Yes]. That’s sufficient. I don’t know anything about you, is that correct?

Hill: That’s correct.

Jones: Uh, I’m not familiar with your de– your life in any way. I see you at some time, locking a garage door with your left hand.

Hill: Correct.

Jones: Very valuable, but I do see it. Because on that particular time, on that particular occasion, someone would be lurking to do you great harm. But I can see where man cannot see.

Congregation: (murmurs)

Jones: I can look beyond the walls.

Hill: Thank you. My gosh.

Congregation: (Responds)

Jones: Spirit. I’m not through. Hands clasped. Do you have any animal named Trixie?

Hill: Yes.

Jones: As I said, I know nothing of your life. I’ve never met you personally. You never told me anything or anyone here, is that correct?

Hill: Correct.

Jones: Do you believe that God works through me in a mighty way?

Hill: Yes, I do.

Jones: That’s what it takes.

Hill: Yes, I– oh, I (unintelligible)

Jones: Just that. Just that. Just that. (glossolalia)

Hill: (moans)

Jones: (glossolalia) You go to a doctor in Sunnyvale, do you?

Hill: Yes.

Jones: I see. It’s good. You once had some great difficulty in your body.

Hill: Yes.

Jones: In Pennsylvania.

Hill: Yes.

Jones: I see six months siege in a hospital?

Hill: Yes.

Jones: Terrible tumor.

Hill: Yes.

Jones: (glossolalia) I see something forming in your bowels and your back. I see some difficulty that you have in the back and your side.

Hill: Correct.

Jones: (glossolalia) Sister, you go to the bathroom, and you’ll be free of the most horrible fate that anybody can free you of.

Congregation: (responds)

Jones: I take the growth away.

Male: (sings)

(tape edit)

Jones: Hallelujah! There’s the growth. There’s the growth. There’s the growth. Spirit.

Woman in crowd: (cries) Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

(tape edit)

Jones: Catherine Gomez. Who is this? Stand right there. Spirit of God. Spirit of God.

Gomez: Hmm.

Jones: Who is Domingo? Domin–

Gomez: Carolyn.

Jones: Hmm?

Gomez: My daughter.

Jones: I see. Carolyn. Did you lose someone before you knew me?

Gomez: Yes.

Jones: Someone far away. As far away to the East Coast?

Gomez: Yes. My daughter.

Jones: You’ve not spoken to me about that. Is that correct?

Gomez: That’s right.

Jones: Does she have two growths? Two– Does she have tumors, you say?

Gomez: Uh– What was that?

Jones: Did she have some tumors?

Gomez: Yes.

Jones: You’re a Latin, aren’t you?

Gomez: Yes.

Jones: From Mexico.

Gomez: Yes.

Jones: Hands clasped. I’ve got to make a notation of some need. You’ve certainly had your share–

Gomez: Sir?

Jones: Children with tumors– I said, you’ve had your share.

Gomez: Yes.

Jones: Son with a hemorrhage that went to the spine.

Gomez: Yes.

Jones: You’ve had your share. This has been a bad cycle. It’s been a bad cycle. May the Spirit of the consciousness of the presence of God meet and satisfy every good desire.

Archie Ijames: (speaking close by) Hallelujah.

Jones: If you find yourself in a living room with a blue carpet, the moment you do, reach down and touch it with this cloth. Will you do that?

Gomez: Yes.

Jones: Hands clasped. Your husband is older in years, isn’t he?

Gomez: Yes.

Jones: Hands clasped. He’s older than you, I would gather.

Gomez: Yes.

Jones: Hands clasped. That means to change your hands. Uh– He– Youth– There’s some problem in his back.

Gomez: Sir?

Jones: There’s some problem in his back? Some arthritic uh, spinal problem?

Gomez: Yes.

Jones: Hmm. I would urge you to see if you can get him under my contact because it’s more serious than– than that. And he nu– he does need a touch from me. Spirit of God, now. Spirit of God. Spirit of God. I’m concerned– In your chest, in your chest, there’s heart is not beating regularly.

Gomez: Yes. That’s right.

Jones: Right now, the Spirit of God discerns that. ‘Cause you’ve told me nothing, I know nothing of your life, but I’m here to lift you up, because I’ve come in the fathership concern, in the fathership consciousness, and I reach out in the love that I am, that God is, that he always shall be, and I heal your body. I heal your body.

Gomez: Thank you! Thank you, Father! (cries) Thank you!

Jones: I can feel you (unintelligible word) in the glory. Spirit– Spirit of God. Spirit of God. Spirit of God. Praise, praise, praise, praise, praise, praise.

Gomez: Thank you!

Ijames: Hallelujah.

Jones: Do you feel a warmth in your chest, now? Do you feel a warmth?

Gomez: Yes.

Jones: I want you to feel a warmth in your chest.

Gomez: Yes.

Jones: You feel that warmth?

Gomez: Yes.

Jones: Then it’s done. It’s done. Thank God. Thank God.

Congregation: (Applause)

Jones: Hallelujah.

(sings) You (unintelligible) alone to bear it all
Just ask for strength and keep right on toiling
Though the teardrops fall
We have the joy of being so sure
Our heavenly father
He always answers prayers
Oh you know
I’m so glad my father
Just my love we can bear–

(organ playing)

(tape edit)

Jones: Aramay McGuiness? Hands clasped. You had your share of difficulties this year. You’ve had– disappointed by your best– one of your friends.

McGuiness: Yes.

Jones: Spirit of God. To even steal– even steal your money, I see.

McGuiness: Yes.

Jones: All your money. Hands clasped. Do you have a daughter?

McGuiness: Yes.

Jones: Who has four children?

McGuiness: Yes.

Jones: Two boys and two girls?

McGuiness: Yes.

Jones: Hands clasped. Would you be in a blue car at any time?

McGuiness: Yes.

Jones: Do you have a floral design on the bottom of a white slip?

McGuiness: Yes.

Jones: Underslip. Spirit of God. Spirit of God. Hands clasped. But I see something that has to be taken care of very, very– very soon. (hums a note) Do you have a pink button-down front sweater?

McGuiness: Yes.

Jones: There’s green design on the sweater?

McGuiness: Yes.

Jones: Will you place this on the slip that I told you– the underslip–

McGuiness: Yes.

Jones: –and this on the green sweater? Hands clasped now. You were operated uh, some– many years ago.

McGuiness: Yes.

Jones: Thyroid.

McGuiness: Yes.

Jones: Something in the– in the glands?

McGuiness: Yes.

Jones: Removed?

McGuiness: Yes.

Jones: Hands clasped.

(Pause) (organ music)

Jones: Well, child, you don’t need to be concerned. There is something in your body, that’s still in the throat that gives trouble from time to time–

McGuiness: Yes.

Jones: But it’s the thing I’m best known for: tumors.

Congregation: (response)

Jones: (glossolalia) Just swallow deeply three times. and it’ll take care of it. Just swallow deeply three times. Now? Now. Now swallow again, and see how easy it is. It’s all right now, isn’t it?

McGuiness: Yes.

Jones: Thank God, thank God!

McGuiness: (cry)

Congregation: (Applause)

(organ music begins playing in background)

Jones: Just roll away, roll away. This’ll save your daughter from an untimely death and all the– the four children. Send it on its way, in the name that I’ve come. In the name that I have come.

Congregation: (Applause)

(Tape edit)

Jones: Sister Williams. (Tape edit) Is there a Sister Williams on 88th somewhere? 88th. Your hands clasped. God. In your heart, in your heart, you say that I am God sent.

Williams: Yes, I did. I’m saying it again, and I’m explaining it all day and asking the Lord to (Unintelligible word) me to come.

Jones: You (Unintelligible word)– Hands clasped. Don’t– Don’t– Don’t say– don’t say any more. I’m telling you what’s in your heart.

Williams: Okay.

Jones: So you don’t need to tell me. If I can tell you what’s in your mind and your heart, then I can certainly reach you.

Williams: Okay.

Jones: God Almighty. Are hands clasped? (Hums one note) You have been so good– You’ve been so good to take care of another loved one ‘til you’ve worn your own heart down. Your heart has been giving you trouble today. The Spirit of God has come to you to build your faith. Said, faith does not come by reading, as much as we love the truths that are in the Bible. The truths must be brought out by a prophet. How can we hear without a preacher, how can he preach ‘lest he be sent? Faith cometh by hearing and hearing by the word of God (Romans 10:14-17, “How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report? So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”). Hebrews 4:12 tells us what the word is. Says it will discern the thoughts, and it will know the intents of the heart. It’s sharper than a two-edged sword. My sister, I shall reach into your thoughts so that I can build your faith–

Williams: Yeah. Thank you.

Jones: You are from Louisiana?

Williams: Yes.

Jones: Been here since 1951?

Williams: Yes.

Jones: God Almighty.

Woman in crowd: Mighty God!

Congregation: (Murmurs)

Jones: God Almighty. You have a sister?

Williams: Yes.

Jones: That is also very ill?

Williams: Yes, sir–

Jones: You have a sister in Louisiana, is it?

Williams: No, in California–

Jones: Past twelve– Some– some– nearly a dozen children.

Williams: Yes.

Jones: You lost your husband in 1944–

Williams: Yes, I did.

Jones: –with the same thing you’re suffering with now, a heart attack.

Williams: Yes. Yes.

Jones: You never told me or anyone here about that–

Williams: No.

Jones: –about your thought, but God, or anything about you, but God hears and he answers prayer if you know him.

Congregation: (murmurs)

Williams: (Unintelligible word).

Jones: Spirit, if you know him. You also have some trouble in your female area. You lost a child when you were– well, you lost a child one time, didn’t you?

Williams: Yes.

Jones: A child– I see, I don’t want to say anything about that. Hmm. Let’s say you would have had twins. Is that possible?

Williams: I just don’t know, sir.

Jones: Did you have any– I see. Well. (Pause) There’s one that would’ve had twins in your family.

Williams: Yes.

Jones: But the doctor only took one afterbirth.

Williams: That’s right.

Jones: Someone died of blood poisoning.

Williams: That’s right.

Jones: Spirit of God.

Congregation: (Murmurs.)

Williams: Yes, God. Yes, Jesus.

Jones: Spirit of God. Now, sister, I will lift you in the name of Jesus because I ferreted out things about Mary there that no one knows on earth but God.

Male in crowd: Right!

Williams: (Unintelligible word).

Jones: Now I lift your body, I reach out to touch you. I touch your chest through the Holy Spirit of God. I move the pain and the difficulty from your abdomen and your chest. I lift it now in the name of Jesus. Do you hear me, sister? I lift it in the name of Jesus. Because I come in the name of Jesus. I’m walking and talking in the name of Jesus, and I lift you! Lift your hands, sister. Breathe deeply. Now the difficulty should leave your body. It should leave your body. (Pause) Is it gone, darlin’?

Williams: (speaks quietly) Yes.

Jones: So thank God. Let’s thank God and praise him.

Congregation: (Applause)

Jones: Praise him! Praise him! Praise him! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Thank you, God Almighty.

(tape edit)

Jones: Your own?

Mitchell: Yes, sir.

Jones: CT 538.

Mitchell: Yes, sir.

Jones: Not only does God save you from heart trouble, he saves you from drowning.

Congregation: (Scattered response and applause)

Jones: Hands clasped. (Pause) Wait a minute. Wait a minute. Wait a minute. You have someone– Will? Will? A brother?

Mitchell: Yeah, Willis.

Jones: Willis. Hmm. (Pause) My God. Who is Loreen Hayes?

Mitchell: (Pause) I don’t know him.

Jones: You know anyone of the name Loreen Hayes?

Mitchell: No–

Jones: Yeah, we’ll move on from one to another. Loreen– what is it?

Ms. Mitchell: (unintelligible)

Jones: Hayes– Is Mitchell– Mitchell connected with you?

Ms. Mitchell: Right.

Jones: There’s another Mitchell?

Ms. Mitchell: Right. I’m Mitchell.

Jones: You’re Mitchell. Mitchell, but you’re not connected?

Ms. Mitchell: That’s my daughter.

Jones: But uh– but uh– (Pause) You’re two Mitchells here, that’s what I’m getting into. Hands clasped. That’s your daughter. Let’s go back to this brother, but you have the boat?

Mitchell: Yes.

Jones: (Unintelligible beginning) –have your hands clasped. You have a dog named Sampson?

Mitchell: Yes.

Congregation: (murmurs)

Jones: Spirit of God, Spirit of God, Spirit of God, Spirit of God. I’m talking about the difficulty gets around here. Right around his chest. I’m gonna stop it down in the abdomen. ‘Cause the heart– just as sure as the world, you’da capsized– you like to fish?

Mitchell: Yes, sir.

Jones: You’da capsized in that boat, I can see you. and you would’ve died if it hadn’t meant a messenger of God here tonight. Spirit of God.

Congregation: (Applause and cheers)

Jones: You have three sons and one daughter? I’m back to this other sister, Mitchell here. And instead of being– a strange irony– about– he’s dead, but you got James and Phillip.

Ms. Mitchell: That’s right.

Jones: They’re not dead.

Ms. Mitchell: No.

Jones: Must have saved their lives.

Ms. Mitchell: Oh, okay.

Jones: See? Two Mitchell’s unrelated here, and– but the world is a small world.

Ms. Mitchell: Thank you, Father. Thank you, Father.

Congregation: (Responds)

Jones: Take each cloth– better rub the license of your boat – just as extra protection – and keep one of the cloths with you. And I want you to have a vial of that oil – give it to her – ‘cause you’ll do work with it.

Ms. Mitchell: Thank you.

Jones: After I tell you something else, instruction in my mind. It’ll save all those loved ones’ lives. Loreen Hayes and Phillip and James.

Ms. Mitchell: Thank you.

Jones: Good you came to the house of God today! Praise his name.

Congregation: (Cheers and applause)

Jones: Spirit of God! It’s good you came! (sings)

Oh, you can’t make me doubt him,
You can’t make me doubt him,
You can’t make me doubt him
If you try–

(tape edit)

(piano playing)

Jones: I hear Davis Beldon, Beldon. Hands clasped. (glossolalia) I wear these glasses better to shut out carnal attitudes, faces, and so forth. I just put them down so that I can let my eye be single and concentrate upon your need. Said if your eye be single, then it’ll be filled with light (Matthew 6:22, “The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.” See also Luke 11:34). Who is Lambert, sister?

Woman: My son.

Jones: Who is Willie B. Mayfield?

Woman: A neighbor of ours. Moved away to Oklahoma.

Jones: Well, that’s been some time ago?

Woman: Yes.

Jones: You want me to tell you where he lives? Route 1, Box 47, Bis–

(Tape edit)

Congregation: (Applause)

Woman: That’s right.

Jones: (glossolalia) Who is Brother Calhoun?

Woman: A friend of mine.

Jones: He’s a friend.

Woman: Yes.

Jones: How close a friend?

Woman: Been knowing him for years.

Jones: Fine. Where is he? There–

Woman: Right there.

Jones: Good, good. You’ve not spoken of a connection. I’m going through her channel, I wasn’t even aware of your presence. Keep standing there, brother. It’s all right. It’s all right. You’ve not told anyone here you were connected. Is that correct?

Woman: No.

Jones: You haven’t spoken to anyone else? You, brother, you haven’t mentioned her to anyone, and she hasn’t mentioned anyone to you?

Brother Calhoun: No.

Jones: All right. They’re sitting in different places. I’ll have to give you something else, now, too, to move further ‘cause I work through your mind as a channel. Not as telepathy, ‘cause you weren’t thinking about him. I’m going to bring two significant healings. Both your lives will be spared here today. Who’s Falcon?

Woman: My neighbor.

Jones: Another neighbor, huh?

Congregation: (Murmurs, laughs.)

Jones: You asked your neighbor and the neighbor in Oklahoma if he’s ever had any contact with Jim Jones. You’ll find out they haven’t. You understand?

Woman: Yes.

Jones: (glossolalia) Who’s Sister Reed?

Woman: A neighbor.

Jones: Another neighbor?

Woman: Yes.

Jones: You’ll find out she hasn’t had had anything either, any contacts. Sister Jeffery?

Woman: (Pause) A friend.

Jones: Yeah, get out of these neighbors after awhile.

Congregation: (laughs)

Jones: Gail– (tape edit)

Woman: Gail, my daughter.

Jones: Wayne?

Woman: My son.

Jones: Maggie?

Woman: My neighbor.

Jones: Louise?

Woman: My neighbor. (Pause) One’s on the right and one’s on the left.

Jones: Well, you ask them all and you come back to our next meeting, anytime we’re meeting, and you’ll find out they never had any contact with me or anyone that they– so I’m wanting their healings. Each of them need to have a touch of my hand. Do you understand?

Woman: Yes, I do.

Jones: It’s very important. You’ve mentioned none of these people here today, is that correct?

Woman: That’s right.

Jones: Some of them were friends who were not your neighbors, and some were your neighbors. Some are your relatives. Each one of them must be in contact with me. Do you understand that?

Woman: Yes.

Jones: Sister, do you drink B– Borden’s whole milk?

Woman: Yes.

Jones: Have you lost your husband?

Woman: Yes.

Jones: I mean, he died.

Woman: That’s right.

Jones: He had some terrible difficulty in the chest, and he began to choke.

Woman: That’s right.

Jones: Turned blue – you never told anyone that – and he strangled to death.

Woman: That’s right.

Jones: (glossolalia) Strangely enough, sister, the agony of seeing that – you understand?  – the agony of going through that with your husband has affected your heart. And you’ve had some difficulties in here also.

Woman: That’s right.

Jones: Now the Spirit’s going to st– going to take care of it. Right now, this better to hear– I did not know you, and you can ask this sister, she never told a soul about you. I’ve got to lower your blood pressure, brother, before Wednesday, or you’ll have a stroke. Put your hand out now. Put your hand out to me now. You know the problem you’re your blood pressure now, in the name of Jesus Christ, Mighty God, Mighty God, Mighty God! I take care of it now, in the name of Jesus, and I move with my hand, anointed. Now I’m over to you, sister, again in your chest, and I bathe it with the Christ mind, I bathe it with oil salve of salvation. (Voice rises) I anoint you in the mighty name of Jesus, may the power of God reach you now and heal you to the uttermost. (Voice calms) It’s– It’s done. It’s done. Both of you. It’s done. In the name of Jesus. Just rejoice in the name of (Unintelligible word under applause)

Congregation: (Cheers and Applause) (organ plays)

Mayberry: Yes. (Unintelligible word)

Jones: You helped raise her, you helped rear her for three years.

Mayberry: Yes (Unintelligible word).

Jones: But her mother wanted her back.

Mayberry: (quieter) That’s right.

Jones: She has a male dog, uh– Calypso.

Mayberry: That’s right.

Jones: This dog’s now in Texas–

Mayberry: Yes.

Jones: Just outside of Fort Worth, three miles.

Mayberry: That’s right.

Jones: Has a– Yeah. There’s a painted blue wood doghouse. He’s all brown except for three dots on his stomach. Oh, praise God, God knows.

Ijames: Yes. He knows.

Mayberry: (squealing in a high pitched voice, unintelligible)

Congregation: (Murmurs)

Jones: Now dear one, your beloved Maddy has leukemia of the blood–

Jones: The child, at this moment–

Congregation: (Applause) (organ begins playing)

Ijames: Thank you, God!

Jones: –she’s at the latter throes of death, but she shall not die.

Ijames: (gasps) Oh, my God!

Jones: –she’ll put on that green polka dot slipper again that you love so, that you sent her for the birthday, on December sixteenth, and she shall live!

Ijames: Thank you, God!

Congregation: (Sustained applause)

Jones: God Almighty!

Ijames: Thank you, thank you!

(organ plays)

Jones: Now, you’re visiting here from Texas, just two days. The Spirit of God’s here to meet your need. Inside your kitchen, in Fort Worth, there’s a cupboard. And an antique china cup. An antique china cup, with Dutch girl and a windmill on it. That an auntie gave you that’s gone. She’s dead.
