On November 24, 1978, detective [name deleted], Ventura Police Department, advised that Jack Arnold Beam, date of birth October 4, 1943, a resident of 3074 Channel Drive, Apartment 203, telephone number 805-642-1730, came to the Ventura Police Department instant in an effort to renew a concealed weapons permit which had been granted to him previously by the Placerville County Sheriff’s office. Beam furnished much information concerning the People’s Temple including the fact that his father, Jack L. Beam, had been one

of the members of “the Council of 10.” Beam indicated he had spoken with Steve [Stephan] Jones by telephone after the murder of Ryan and the suicide of the commune members, and had been advised that his father had died by means of a gun shot wound in the head.

[name deleted] indicated Beam feared for his life and would not be in Ventura over the weekend but would return to the Ventura police station at 8:30 A.M., on Monday, November 27, 1978, to see the chief of police about renewing his concealed weapons permit.

Special agents will be at Ventura Police Department at that time to interview Jack Arnold Beam in detail.
