SUBJECT: DISPOSITION OF SUPPLIES AND EQUIPMENT
1. By various communications, DOD was requested to provide certain supplies and equipment to AmEmb Georgetown in support of the Jonestown People’s Temple operation. Some other items were positioned at Dover AFB for onward movement to Georgetown, but due to the rapidly changing requirements were not actually shipped. Among the supplies still at Dover are items which were provided by Sec State.
2. After careful consideration, AmEmb Georgetown, in a November 29 cable, recommends that all items being held at Dover AFB be returned to DOD and/or State Department stock. Accordingly, DOD is requested to cancel all outstanding requisitions and return the items at Dover AFB to stock in

keeping with applicable DOD priorities. In a separate message the State Department will provide a fiscal citation to cover the return to Washington via commercial carrier those items which are property Sec State.
3. Department regrets inconveniences caused by these actions but greatly appreciates DOD excellent support in responding to appeals for assistance in a most unusual situation.
