Summary:

A reporter for a television station interviews Jim Jones about the various programs and services provided by Peoples Temple in Ukiah. They talk about its geriatric homes, which Jones describes as offering activities and choices for seniors, all designed to promote their independence. The children’s home – principally for developmentally-disabled children in their late teens – also has features which sets it apart from comparable homes. Everything they do, Jones adds, complies with state and county licensing requirements and regulations.

The focus then turns to the Temple’s animal shelter, which takes in injured pets and wild animals. They also take in unwanted pets “that people discard after the novelty wears off.” The Temple is stretched to its financial limits, but it still maintains a no-kill policy, again a future which differentiates it from the country facility.

The reporter concludes with questions about the services the Temple provides at the county courthouse, ranging from hosting a coffee hour complete with doughnuts, offering free legal counseling, and providing clothing and food to those who need it.
