The United States brought Larry Layton twice to trial over his role in the shootings at the Port Kaituma airstrip in Guyana on November 18, 1978. The first trial held before U.S. District Judge Robert Peckham in San Francisco ended in a hung jury, but the second trial ended in conviction.
