Yulanda Williams became a member of Peoples Temple at age 12 in 1969 and moved to Guyana in 1976. She left Jonestown in the fall of 1977 with her husband, Ron Crawford.
Ms. Williams is the daughter of Rev. Harry W. Williams, Sr., who was a minister at St. Mark Institutional Missionary Baptist Church in San Francisco, and of Rose Mary Williams. She was a member of the San Francisco Police Department for more than 30 years, and was the president of the Officers for Justice in SF.
Ms. Williams has appeared in several documentaries and granted numerous interviews about her experiences in the Temple, including three interviews in 2024 with Time magazine, Psychology Today and The Guardian. She also appeared in a panel discussion of Jonestown at the Museum of the African Diaspora in 2017.
In recent years, Ms. Williams has developed her talents as a singer, and has produced numerous videos. They include:
