Jones: There’re folk in here that thought they were better than others, and they got to working together, living in common projects, sharing, beginning to concern themselves about other people’s children other than their own kin. A new day happened. That’s the beauty of socialism. Makes you a better person, in every– every respect of the word. And we share our common birthday, as we will for those that are born in uh, June, next Wednesday. When we give our sharing allowance, all children with the same allowance. And all children have the same Christmas. And all of our older people have the same homes and facilities to go to when they have no place in life. That is the thing that has made us healthier. And I think if it works for us, it’ll work for a whole lot of other people, don’t you?

Jones: Thank you for listening to a message. This is not done, but tonight many were out and it was a good thing to review some of the thoughts. Tomorrow we’ll have a big day when all the people get here, we’ll have to crowd together. If you don’t like anybody then, you’ll get to, because you’ll be sharing b.o. with a lot of folks. (tape edit) If you do not have a slate of recommendations for voting, if you don’t purchase this paper, you should. Not because uh, we’ve become personally acquainted, I was long recommending it before two weeks ago when I got this special merit award for humanitarian– outstanding humanitarian service in Northern California. So it isn’t anything that uh, we have been extending for uh– for selfish or our own uh, purposes. Listen now, will you? Get this slate of candidates. Let’s unite. How many are uh– if they’re– they’re not registered, get registered. That’s a rule to be in membership here. You must be registered to be in uh, good standing. You must vote. We must try the ballot, because if the ballot doesn’t work, some folk gone try the bullet.
Congregation: (Scattered response)
Jones: So we better get to trying the ballot. No one wants the bullet. No one wants to have to live by the sword and die by the sword (Matthew 26:52, “Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.”). But if we don’t use this process, this may be the last time in America that we’ll have a choice, some kind of a choice. Isn’t the best choice. I’d like to be able to vote for Shirley Mae [Shirley Anita St. Hill Chisholm], but Shirley Mae cannot possibly win. We supported her earlier. Now the time’s come to differentiate between Humpty Dumpty [Democratic presidential candidate Hubert Humphrey] and Mr. [George] McGovern. And that’s a choice of a sort. And certainly anything would be better than Tricky Dick [Richard Nixon, U.S. President] so it is high time that we uh, give the support to McGovern. Mrs. [Coretta Scott] King has supported him, Julian Bond, various black liberation groups have come out in support. About the only ones that haven’t have been the Panthers. And the Panthers, many of them, independently say that McGovern should be the choi– the choice. So I think that each of you should work hard and get out there between now and Tuesday and get your friends and use your cars and vote for this entire slate. I uh– I find that I don’t ever disagree with anything that the uh, Sun Reporter has uh, mentioned. I– I don’t think there’s a per– person here that I disagree with. We are fortunate to have an old friend of mine, by the way, uh, Doris Ward, who is the wife of our church attorney many years ago back in Indiana. She’s gon– running for the ma– the community college district, and I see that she’s of the right stripe here too in Mr. [Carlton] Goodlett’s eyes, because she’s been recommended. We’re very happy to have you, Doris, with us tonight. So uh– (clears throat)
Jones: Introduce her, Marceline [Jones], to them. She’s running fo– a– she’s a– uh– on this column, I just noticed, a member of the community college district. She’s running for uh, the college board. We certainly need Third World people there. So it’s good to meet someone that’s running. Mrs. Ward, stand up and let the people meet you. Get out there and run for (unintelligible word).
Jones: And get this list. If you don’t have the paper and can’t afford it, we’ll get– someone get this copied off for a bulletin, so that you’ll know the propositions, city and county, the state propositions, all of you, please, in Los Angeles area, get this posted around there. Proposition 9, all the big bu– business has tried to kill that proposition, and they’ve probably successfully done so, but at least you can have a conscience vote. All the big money in the world– I don’t know why we don’t learn. When something comes out with a uh– uh– uh, a commercial every few minutes, you ought to know that’s something that uh, we would be against if they’re for it and for if they’re against it.
Congregation: (Scattered response)
Jones: (voice climbs) Uh, the whole radio and television media’s been bombarding us, don’t vote for Proposition 9. Well, I’ve been doing some reading of it and I don’t find it nearly as threatening. It isn’t threatening our life, our economy. But it would uh, put some restraints on these big industries, and we could stand that. As I said about the mines, what a tragedy in America, how we’ve been so stupid with our damnable heaven religion instead of bringing uh, our God down to earth that we would allow an in– a double standard of justice to exist that people can die in the mines with faulty gas masks and not have regulations, uh– not meet regulations to have a mask for every individual and then have one out of three of the existing half s– uh, staff masks that they had fail and cause people to suffocate, and people to be trapped in elevators to die because of safety failures. Ignoring federal regulations. And as the paper said, the federal inspectors have not been reported to be in there, in some areas of the– of the– the studies have not been in the mines for thirty years, and we’ve been so stupid that we would let a system get by with this kind of stuff. All we have to do is to get together. We can stop it. We can stop it if we’ll get rid of the religion that they’ve given us to be– have an opiate. Religion’s an opiate. Anything has to do with something tomorrow, when they tell you tomorrow’s gonna be all right, don’t have to worry about today, they’ve lied to you. (Voice moderates, then climbs) ‘Cause I just went into that, we don’t have to repeat that. The Bible shows you it’s full a errors, so if we’re going to have a heaven, we better build one. And if you don’t care about building one for yourself, you ought to be unselfish enough to do it for your children. You ought to care, we ought to care deeply that our sisters like Angela [Davis] have had to go through all this hell, all this hell. Anybody knows– th– th– this is impossible legally from what little bit of law I know, I– to be trying this woman, when every person that’s supposed to be in this conspiracy is dead. And weapons are supposed to be allowed, you’re supposed to have a weapon in your home, and accuse her of conspiring and have no evidence at all that she conspired with anyone. Just because she had a weapon. All the– all the Charlie’s and old (unintelligible) and Mickey Mouse’s, they’re talking about their right to have a weapon, but one black woman who’s threatened every day and she gets a weapon and to think that– Uh– No one would possibly believe that she’d be ignorant enough to get a weapon and put it in her own name when you can get so man– clandestine ways, you can get weapons if you wish, then to get a weapon in her own name and use it to– for a conspiracy to kidnap and murder. And we sit and let that get by. If they put her in jail, we need to raise so much hell that they’ll get her out of jail.
Congregation: (Applause and cheers)
Jones: ‘Cause the next time, it’ll be you. The system just takes what it can. Feels its way along. They’ll do as much as you’ll let them get by with. If we had protested, they wouldn’t be dogging little people, they’d respect us more, but we’ve never got together. Of course, in capitalism, it’s pretty hard for poor people to get together, but we can get our bodies together, we can get our minds together. We don’t have the money to lobby like mines do. Now if you’d– uh, if they fail to pay one dime of your income tax, they’d throw you into jail. But Sunshine Mines has violated all those laws and murdered 91 people. Ninety-one people, they murdered due to ignoring the law and then the government didn’t enforce the law. It’s high time that we saw this. And I know a lot of you don’t like to get politics in the church, but that’s been the very, very weak point. That’s been our vulnerable point. They gave us religion, the first thing they l– set us down in the cotton fields. They knew we wouldn’t like to work in those cotton fields. They knew a proud people that had had a great culture and had– and had a great civilization would certainly not gonna be apt to sit down and take it easily. Unless we give them promises and kept them– and their next generation from getting an education, kept them in ignorance and told them the only thing they could study was religion, about how good it was gonna be when they flew away after they died. (Pause) Well, we’ve woke up, haven’t we? Have you woke up now?
Congregation: (murmurs of agreement)
Jones: Have you woke up? If– if anybody flies away, we’re good, we’ll be there. Ain’t nobody any gooder than in all the world, we’re better than that Bible. That God in the Bible killed his enemies, we love our enemies and take them in and feed half the northern California. So if there’s a heaven, we’re going to fly to it.
Congregation: (Scattered response)
Jones: In the meantime, we’re going to do something about making this heaven a little bit better, this earth a little bit better. (Pause) Well, in this– the last moment before we– How many are to be baptized tonight, or came here for baptism? (Pause) I think– What is it? I think we’ll let you be baptized tomorrow, because you need to get a good night’s rest. (Pause) Unless you prefer to be baptized tonight. I don’t care when you get baptized. First place, it’s just a symbol. Means nothing. Only an act of a good conscience towards a new day. If you really believe that uh, you want to be a socialist, then get baptized, symbolize it. The water not going to save you. How many have any questions about reincarnation? Humanist socialists don’t need motivation, but people who have religious backgrounds need motivation. Humanist socialist here, and ethical socialists realize that the power that I have is a paranormal faculty. It’s a uh– extra-dimensional quality, it’s an extrasensory aspect. It’s a para-psychological facet, uh, an evolution of my mind. You need to be around it, it’s a good thing to be around when someone doesn’t let anybody die and hasn’t for five years. That’s– that’s pretty good to be around that kind of an atmosphere or to see that woman pass that growth last night. That bloody mass there. It certainly feels good to be free of that pain, doesn’t it, darlin’? And uh, ethical socialists know what I– that I’m an evolved being. Religious orientations, I’ve got to be a God substitute. You see the witness– the mys– the mystery. I have to be a God substitute. ‘Cause there no– there no granddaddy setting up there in the skies anyway. If he was– if he was and he could have as much power as they say he’s got – omnipotent, omniscient, omniluscent, omnipresent, all powerful – let Angela sit down there. ‘Cause you give me the power, I’ll free her. When you get your mind straight, I’ll get her out of there. I won’t do it the way you think I’ll do it, but I’ll get her out of there. (short laugh) I’ll do it.
Congregation: (Applause and cheers)
Jones: And already we’ve put two thousand dollars into her legal fund, as we have everyone that’s protested in the civil liberties area and all the political prisoners in America, we’ve been there with our funds. We’ve put our money where our mouth was, because we know that when liberty’s on the altar, you and I are on the altar. Every time liberty’s in question for one, it’s in question for all. That’s the way they did with Germany. They just picked where they could. They got by with the communists so they started with the Jews. They got by with the Jews, so they started with the trade unions. They got by with the trade unions, they ended up taking every person that believed in civil liberties, Protestant and Catholic, because somebody said I’m not a Jew, like Reverend Niebuhr [Martin Niemoller], the great theologian said, well, I didn’t get worried when they came after the communists, I wasn’t Red. I didn’t get worried when they came after the Jews, I wasn’t a Jew. I didn’t get worried when they came after the Catholic Workers Party, I wasn’t Catholic. He said when they got around to coming after the Protestants like me that wanted justice, there wasn’t nobody left to protest for me. By God, there’s some people left to protest, we’re not waitin’ til’ they come after all us folks.
Jones: Say, you– you have a bad opinion of what can happen. Yes I do. My Indian relatives, the moment this state became California, half of my Indian population, my ancestors, were decimated. Half of the Indian nation was killed, in 20 years. I’ve seen my people worshipping the Great Spirit, murdered on the way to their religious festivals. Not only them, but their children murdered, and their women raped. And don’t talk about Indians teaching people to scalp. That was a white man’s art. The French taught people how to scalp.
If there’re people already dressed and want to be baptized, I’ll baptize them. I don’t care. I don’t mind staying up all night, doesn’t matter to me. Tell them it doesn’t matter to me.
The uh– (Pause) fact is that the traveling evangelist minister, itinerant preacher was the hangman even in Nevada as late as in the 1930’s. Early 40’s there was a lynching in Nevada. So don’t think this system can’t do it. It has done it. We don’t need to look back at all with any kind of uh, real clarity without seeing that they’ll do just anything they choose to do when they get ready to do it. The Japanese were a proud people that possessed a great deal of the land, and they had got a little bit of capitalism, something we’ve never gotten, due to the oppression and the terrible emanc– emasculation of our Indian and black culture. But the Japanese had something going, but they didn’t have enough going. They took it all away from them and sent them into concentration camps. And uh, my friend, as I’ve testified to you so often about his mother died in a Colorado concentration camp, for six months she died with cancer, agonizing death, and they didn’t even give her an aspirin tablet. He sit and had to watch that. So don’t tell me they won’t do it. If it’s the Japanese they want out of the way, they’ll get them out of the way. If it’s the blacks they want out of the way, they’ll get them out of the way. In fact, I agree with Clark [could be Ramsey Clark] and I agree with the– the choice uh– uh, a number of a– articles that’ve come out from our best thinkers, I think there’s already a planned genocide. We’re going to have to get together. It’ll– it– it– it’ll take– it’ll take its place. Let there never be another time in history when people like the Jews went numb to the gas chambers. Silent. The SS, or the CIA of that day, the Gestapo, saw to it that there was no opposition. Took the spirit out of the Jews. Wouldn’t even let them decry their faith when they knew they were walking to the gas chamber, in some cases. Some cases they didn’t know. But in cases when they knew they were walking to bury themselves, dig their own graves and fall over, they wouldn’t s– allow any crying or any kind of protest. Well, I’ll tell you, I’ll never march quietly to any damned grave. They’ll have to kill me.
Congregation: (Applause and cheers)
Jones: And I hope you’ve got the guts that you won’t walk silently in file and in (stumbles over words) a nice array, just as kindly and quietly and cooperatively as they want. I hope none of you’ll do that. We saw it doesn’t pay. The Jews did it thinking, I suppose, that finally mercy would come, but [Adolf] Hitler never had any mercy. There was never any mercy until every last Jew – nine million Jews – were murdered. He murdered every Jew he could get his hands on. The more that came, the more he murdered, and that’s what they’ll do if you get somebody the likes of [George] Wallace and keep this kind of mess we got under Nixon.
Man: That’s right.
Jones: Wallace said what he’d do if he got elected. Said I’ll roll my chauffeur-drove–driven Cadillac right over the bodies of blacks. He said it in the last election. People’s memories awful short. In Oregon he run in second. Do you realize that man in Oregon, that once was a liberal state, Wallace run second in the Democratic primary, and he’ll make a good showing in the California one too, even though it’s a write-in one. And he took Wisconsin. And he took– I mean M– Michigan and he took Maryland and he nearly took Indiana and ran in so close in Ohio. And the man’s paralyzed and (stumbles over words) an idiot on top of it. Never said anything, never said a thing– he’s never made a campaign statement on any issue. The man has never dealt with one issue in American life, and he’s won primary after primary. He’s gonna have a great block of delegates we’re going to have to cope with in that convention. And he lays there in bed, a bigot. Corrupt politician without any intelligence to speak on issues of our time, and he gains this kind of momentum because there’s a lot of racism in America, if you haven’t woken up. (Pause) We haven’t got time to go back. Somebody asked me back there uh, now uh, pastor, since I’ve got in your church and I’ve learned about the Bible uh, someone (unintelligible word) telling me that I should go to a church home, I should get a church home in Los Angeles. What are you talking about? What kind of church home you gonna get? You know a good church?
Congregation: (Scattered response)
Jones: Tell me where it is. Tell me where’s a good church. Tell me any good church you know. Speak of it. I don’t know any. Name one. This is not a church, this is a movement, you (unintelligible).
Congregation: (Scattered applause)
Jones: What’s the matter, you been– You haven’t been listening. What would you want to go back to a church for? That sister knew better. But some of the people telling her, people tell you, you gotta have a church home. No true follower of– of this principle that I’m bearing, no true follower of that which I am, no true follower of this God personification socialism, no true follower, would it be in another church, you’d already be out of it. Come up here and say I’m gonna get healed and go back to another church. No, you won’t. You won’t get healed. You’ll just get a heal long enough to get in this atmosphere, and when you get away from me, you won’t stay healed. You can’t stay healed, unless you keep in contact with what this is. Don’t think you’re going to be able to take something good and then go back to that old cheap crap.
Congregation: (Scattered response)
Jones: I want– I want to get it st– I want to get it straight across our minds tonight. We’re a small family, we can talk very plain to each other. Not nearly all the family gathered together, so with this small gathering we ought to get our understanding. You got no business in other churches, unless it’s some place where a freedom fighter’s speaking. You’ve got no business setting under some Uncle Tom or Aunt Jane, driving around in a (unintelligible word) Lincoln or a Cadillac. You’ve got no business.
Jones: (Calms, then climbs) Now (stumbles over words) I– I hope that’s as plain as it can be made. What would you want to do that for? The National Baptist Convention, the biggest black church, had Doctor Billy James Hargis, that white honky from Tulsa. Had that honky. We threw him out. We threw him out. He said publicly in the national press, the only good nigger is a dead nigger. And to think that you’ve got no more pride than to belong to the Baptist Convention when Doctor Jackson had that SOB speaking, he was a keynote speaker. He was a key note speaker in the last National Baptist Convention, and you think you want to go in that kind of a mess?
Scattered voices in audience: No!
Jones: Bishop [S.M.] Crouch in Los Angeles says, shouldn’t get involved in politics. What you talking about, you holiness and Baptist people. When are you gonna quit being Aunt Janes and Uncle Tom, and when you going to get pride in yourself and stand on your own feet and be what you ought to be?
Jones: Even like that SOB. Well, I’ll tell ya, Jesus said something stronger than that, King James just cut it out. He said sons of hell, when he whipped their posteriors out and threw the moneychanger capitalists out, upset the tables and drove them down, there were a lot of strong words he said. I should know, ‘cause I’m still saying ‘em (Matthew 21: 12-13, “And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves, And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves.”).
Jones: Now I– I do hope that if you wish us to take care of you when you get in need, and we’ve had a pledge to our membership to provide care for you through our convalescent facilities, our– our nursing homes, I– I don’t think it’s fair for you to meddle around with some crap when we– when we are expected to feed our family, and we’re gone take care of our family when they need. I don’t think it’s right for you to be involved in something else that’s not right.
Congregation: (Scattered response) (Pause)
Jones: (Aside) Don’t uh, Marceline. (Pause) Someone’s in– in need on the telephone, we’ll take care of it now. (Talks under breath, unintelligible) (Pause) (back to congregation) She’ll be all right, ‘cause socialism’s all right. (Pause) That’s what upsets these churches. Have somebody that the people call God and then have him be a socialist radical on top of it. That really makes ‘em nervous.
Congregation: (Scattered response)
Jones: Have someone that can raise the dead and be a socialist radical. They can’t– they can’t get that together. They don’t like that combination. (aside) Uh, yes, yes. Hmm. (back to congregation) I don’t know of any church. When we were down marching around Saint Mary’s Cathedral, wanting Angela to have a place to present her c– her case. Her mother [Sallye Davis]. That precious mother, when we gave our two thousand dollar offering. We marched around there with Doctor Goodlett, and there wasn’t one minister in San Francisco, Richmond, Oakland, Berkeley, that would let us go in when that Saint Mary’s monstrosity wouldn’t let us in. Not one. Old [Hamilton] Boswell, Methodist, I caught him over to the side and I run over when I was with Reverend [Cecil] Williams and I said, Oh, it’s good to see you. He goes, I’m just out having a walk and having a stroll. He wouldn’t get in the march. He got caught there by accident. (Pause) (voice starts to climb) They’ve taken our money. I saw Third Baptist Church in the Sun Reporter this week. They got a edifice, a new edifice worth nearly a million dollars. What could we have done for Angela or [Bobby] Hutton or all of these liberal– these fighters for freedom? What could we have done for them if we had that money, and what good has the buildings done us? Nothing. And tomorrow you’ll be crowded, but I think you’ll feel good being crowded in this, knowing that the building is also used for class work, knowing the people gather here to do work, manual work, quilting. Know that there’s a school around here during the week. Know that there’s film educations where we are taught the academics of socialism. Know that the pool can be used for physical therapy, and that every child that’s needy in this valley can get in that pool and swim. I think it would make you feel better to be in a practical building that we built with our own hands like this, and because of it, we’ve got a forty-acre children’s home. And we’re now out purchasing four senior citizen homes, a convalescent home, four college dormitories in two years. And if you get us together, we’ll one day have freedom.
Jones: Right now, let us take our offering in the manner prescribed. Be sure to put your (tape edit) –uh, in our group that had taken advantage of us. We were going through financial files, all these files– (tape edit) –told not to, she died out on the street. I brought her back to life.
Congregation: (Scattered) Yeah!
Jones: We gave her our modern equipment, we had her breathing. Said, I bring the breath back to her, but what’d I tell you when the service began? That someone that was not obedient would be carried away in a stretcher. If you don’t believe you need this family, I wish you’da seen what happened out there to my workers. After I got her breathing, they came along, those honkies came along with their ambulance and took all the equipment off that I’d put on her, jerked that black woman and threw her on a stretcher and shoved her in an ambulance, and she died en route.
Congregation: (Scattered response)
Jones: This woman that didn’t go in the church, she felt like she better go to her Baptist Church. She shoulda stayed right there and been with us, ‘cause there’s a vibration in being near this person, being near this experience, being near this Godship degree or socialistship degree, there is a– a– there’s a vitality to it, but she had to go to her old church. Just as she was prophesied Sunday – and you know it, and you were out there – she died, and isn’t it the truth? I got her breathing back, and she’d been dead for five or six minutes when I got to her, ‘cause she was down the road. And they took that equipment off of her, jerked it out of her face and threw her in. That’s what we count for, then– when you don’t like me to say we’re niggers, we are niggers, and we’ve got to know we’re niggers, and we’ll never get free until we know just what they feel about us.
Congregation: (Scattered applause and cheers)
Jones: They treated that woman with– it’s shame how they treated that woman. Even though she didn’t realize where her bread was buttered and she didn’t stand with us, it’s– she’s still one of our sisters under the skin. And to think that they shoved her in an ambulance without any resuscitation and no one got in the back of the ambulance with her. (Pause) That’s why I say, let’s stick together. Quit buying all the fool stuff that Charlie’s trying to sell you on TV, and get your money together so we can get the homes and a community up here. These politicians all been tripping in here. They know that they got to deal with us, ‘cause we’ll elect this supervisor this next election or he’ll uh, go out, because we got enough votes here. That’s why we want to get more of you. There’s 30 jobs up here. Come here now, hear me now. There’re 30 jobs in a factory. W– we’ve got– they never used to hire blacks up here. One of our executives now is a black person. (Stumbles over words) –he’s here, Norman [probably Ijames], some place around can talk to you. There’s thirty jobs up here at this Boise Cascade far– firm, and some of you need to get your posteriors out there and become another family up in the valley so we’ve got more strength, because we’ve got everybody respecting us. They don’t love us, but they respect us. The sheriff gives us protection when anybody– they’ll put their own cars around here, ‘cause he knows he goes in or out, depending on our vote. (Pause) Let’s take this valley (breathless) over.

Jones: –have come and they’ve been healed and restored, their hear– their lives have been giving meaning. When I look out over this valley of young people, hundred and twenty-one young people in this church. They were once imprisoned by drugs. And now not one of these young people even have a violation of a law, not even a traffic violation. No tobacco, no alcohol, no drugs. No race prejudice. Free from all those lacks and wants. Free from all that division. All that carnal now– that carnal awareness. Free from those aspirations of worldly gain, the a– selfishness, the aggrandizing spirit of mortal mind and animalism. Truly, beloved, you can only see God here, if you have a heart to listen, eyes to look honestly, you can only behold God here. I do not require that you behold God in me. If you reproduce God to a greater degree by not seeing God in me and seeing it in yourself, then I’m happy for you. If you can sensitize yourself to a greater awareness of God, without recognizing me as a personal ministry of this five-fold heaven-sent order, then I’m glad for you, but in the meantime, if you haven’t found all that you want of God, come and follow me as I follow Christ. Take up your cross, as I take up mine (Matthew 16:24, “Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.” See also Mark 8:34, Mark 10:21, and Luke 9:23.). Let me speak in the person of Christ, as Paul said, what you forgive, I forgive also (2 Corinthians 2:10, “To whom ye forgive any thing, I forgive also: for if I forgave any thing, to whom I forgave it, for your sakes forgave I it in the person of Christ”), anything you bind, I bind also, Paul said, and I do it. Not in the name, not in a prayer, but in the person of Jesus Christ (likely Matthew 16:18-19, “And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven,” and Matthew 18:18, “Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”). (Voice calms) I’m speaking in the office of the hundredfold ministry to those that need it (Matthew 13:3-9). But if you are unfolding on your own behalf, I’m grateful for your aspirations and your manifestation. I do not require that you call me anything but Jim Jones. Just do the works of Christ. If you care to do the works of Christ, come and unite with me. If you care to live the apostolic life, we’ll have all the agreement we need. You don’t have to give me any recognition whatsoever. Now when we take our hands again, in a different way, a different motion. (Pause) Just so that love is felt. Laying on of hands is a great art, it’s a great ministry.
God, God, we would see Jesus. On Sixth Street in some city, 127 Sixth Street. 127 Sixth Street. Does anyone have this address? (Pause) Yes, well, that’s probably it. (Pause) Clasp your neighbor’s hand very warmly and cordially. Identify with the need of another. Our life will move on as we flow like a mighty river into this man, into his needs, irresistibly victorious. We’re going to be in harmony now with his needs, with the law of Christ that said lose your life and you shall find it (Matthew 16:25, “For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it.” See also Matthew 10:39; Mark 8:35; Luke 9:24; Luke 17:33; and John 12:25). Our constant desire in meditation is to perceive the need in this temple of God. Jesus said, ye are gods, so there is a God. I am God, you are God (John 10:34, “Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods?”). The only God that we’ll ever be able to see on this earth plane until we make it the kingdoms of our God and his Christ. (hums) Some long time ago– You’ve never told me anything about your health.

Jones: I hear, in the spirit, going back some years, that you fell down a stairway.
Man: Yes sir.
Jones: Your left leg went to sleep on you.

Jones: And not me, of course, ‘cause I do not know a thing of your life. This is what we mean by the word the hundredfold. Hebrews 4:12, the word which is sharper than a two-edged sword, which is a discerner of the thought and the intents of the heart that can reach in to an area of a man’s life that’s shut up only to him and to God (Hebrews 4:12, “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”). As I said– I was starting to say something about, this was proceeded– this was proceeded by pain in your low– your lower back.

Jones: Yes, I know. You have to take pills two or three tam– times a day sometimes.

Jones: Now, Spirit of God. You’re not even been able to do things like– that you’d like to bend to do dishes.
Jones: Or clean the house.
Jones: Or to cut the grass.
Jones: Not even to bend over to do the little cleaning, as you have said.
Man: Yes. That’s right.
Jones: In your consciousness.
Jones: Now in the name that I have come, the name of Jesus, I’m crucified. The memory of Jim Jones does not linger on here, for in this great age, the age that is accounted worthy to attain resurrection. We neither marry, nor given in marriage, we need to perpetuate mortal versions or opinions. Some think that we have to do that when we get ready to be in heaven. But Jesus said if you be accounted worthy for the new age, you’ve neither married, or given in marriage (Luke 20:34-36, “And Jesus answering said unto them, The children of this world marry, and are given in marriage: But they which shall be accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage: Neither can they die any more: for they are equal unto the angels; and are the children of God, being the children of the resurrection.”). You hate what? Husband? Father? Mother and children in the sense that the ties for themselves. You must break them, the ties that is, that bind you. You must come out of all mortal versions. And if one wants to be worthy for the kingdom of God, you must be like the angels in heaven, if you want to be raised from the dead. (1 Corinthians 15, esp. 53-54, “For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.”) The King James’ badly butchered that, but a little of the truth still reigns there, that those who accounted worthy to attain to that age – that means something you have to do in this earth – and to the resurrection from the dead, neither married or are given in marriage, neither hold mortal family ties of those spiritual and apostolic ties, because they’re equal to the angels as the sons of God (Luke 20:34-36). Because they’re equal and then behave like the sons of God, being the sons of the resurrection. They bring forth resurrection life. I’m speaking in the inner light to your body, to the pain that’s in your body to which you’ve had all these years, way back in the early ‘60’s, I’m speaking to that pain and to that crippling condition. I’m speaking to it now, brother. I command you to jump up and down. I command you to jump up and down.

Jones: (individual words unintelligible, as he tells the man to jump up and down, turn his head and bend over while telling the man there is “no pain now”.)

Jones: Better give that to D.V., a loved one. I don’t think some of you recognize, this man has been a cripple. This man has been a cripple, and God has healed him– has healed him. Something to rejoice about. For years, for years. Something to praise God. Something to praise God for. And you just saved the life of a loved one. You just saved the life of a loved one by giving them that. Father, God Almighty, we thank you.
Jones: Who has the loved ones named Carla and Raymond? Carla and Raymond? (Pause) Respond quickly. It’s all right to be standing. What? (John 1:14, “And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.”) God, the hundredfold. Bless you. Bless you, bless you. Bless you. That’s the hundredfold that I am reproducing. I am personifying God so that you might know your rightful inheritance. (Colossians 3:24, “Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.”) I have reached out as Jesus commanded and let this mind be in me which was also in Christ Jesus, who being in the form of a slave and yet considered it not robbery to be equal with God (Phillipians 2: 5-7, “Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men.”). I have reached out from poverty, from the low class system of being an Indian. I have reached out to show you that you can attain to the heights, that there is no limitation in your imagination as far as your apprehension of God. I have come to show you that ye are gods, because I am God (John 10:34). Beside this spirit, there is no other. This spirit can inculcate in you and heal you, just as it healed me last night. When those that were shot, no one was harmed. The bullets came into my body, and I did not move from this seat. Yea, it is God! Nothing can stop, nothing can hinder this spirit, and if you’ll recognize it and sympathize with it harmoniously, then cultivate it in the garden of your own soul and consciousness, you’ll bring it forth, even to greater fruition than I, if you will take cognizance of my teachings, you can reproduce a greater picture of Christ than I am even reproducing (John 14:12, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.”). This is the mystery of God. You have been held down in the imprisonment of the old mortal version that God was out there, that salvation is out there, but the sky is everywhere and is yet nowhere. It is everywhere where there is nothing. You can travel at the speed of light for thousands of miles a second and proceed for the next three million light years and not get out of this galaxy. Where is your heaven out there? You cannot travel fast enough to find heaven. But lo, the kingdom of heaven is within you (Luke 17:21: “Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.” See also Luke 10:9-11.). Today is the day of salvation. The righteousness which is of faith says that the kingdom of heaven is here. (Voice lowers, then climbs) Don’t say in your heart that you’ll ascend into heaven and bring him down, or that you’ll descend into the deep and bring him up from the dead. But I say as the righteousness of faith says that the word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth and in thy heart. (Romans 10: 6-8, “But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down from above:) Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.) But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach.”) I have come to show you that God is personifiable in a human being. He said lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Some place, in some shanty town, in some low p– valley of man’s existence, in some area of privation, God always has a body. He always has someone that will speak for him. He has someone that’ll be his oracle. Somewhere, somehow, in every age, in every dispensation, God said, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. I, meaning a person, the personality of God, will never leave you, nor forsake you, not even unto the end of the world. (Matthew 28:20, “Lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”) The same God that Jacob saw and wrestled with all night, and they called the place Peniel because he met God face to face. (Genesis 32: 24-32) The same God that talked to Moses (Exodus). The same God that appeared to Solomon, and Solomon described the color of his hair (mistaken reference to Daniel 7: 1-14, esp. Daniel 7:9, “I beheld till the thrones were cast down, and the Ancient of days did sit, whose garment was white as snow, and the hair of his head like the pure wool.”). The same God that Isaiah said in 7:20, will shave after that day with a razor. (Isaiah 7:20, “In the same day shall the Lord shave with a razor that is hired, namely, by them beyond the river, by the king of Assyria, the head, and the hair of the feet: and it shall also consume the beard.”) The same God that appeared to Manoah and his wife. (Judges 13:20-22: “For it came to pass, when the flame went up toward heaven from off the altar, that the angel of the LORD ascended in the flame of the altar. And Manoah and his wife looked on it, and fell on their faces to the ground. But the angel of the LORD did no more appear to Manoah and to his wife. Then Manoah knew that he was an angel of the LORD. And Manoah said unto his wife, We shall surely die, because we have seen God.”) The same God that talked to Abraham (numerous times in Genesis, including Genesis 15, Genesis 17, Genesis 21) (Voice drops, then climbs) He would be a discriminator if he would appear to a heathen king like he did the King Nebuchadnezzar in the fiery furnace. If he would appear to someone that was outside the covenant and not appear to you, then he would be a discriminator, but he said G– all things may change but God never changes. (Daniel 3) They say it’s the same today, yesterday and forever. He is the God that changeth not, so the God that spoke to Jacob, the God that walked with Jacob is walking today, if you can receive it (Isaiah 2:1-5).
Jones: The God that spoke in the earth plane all those years ago in the millinneal and the antecedents of history. That God is still here. The same God, the same power and we can tabernacle him into an innumerable company of sons, if you will. (Hebrew 12:22-23, “But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels, To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect.”) If you will but see your God, you shall be strong and do exploits (Daniel 11:32, “…but the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do exploits.”). Take your neighbor’s hands. I tell you, you are God. I tell you, you are God. I tell you, you are God. (glossolalia) Thank you, God almighty!

Jones: –that they can uh, detect a person that comes in out of five hundred persons. Out of five hundred possible suspects, all the plants gave certain similar experience– (stumbles over words) emitted the same kind of energy on electroencephalograph, on a lie detector test, they emitted the same kind of reaction. They’ve solved three murders in the East Coast. Plants are living. Love them. And as you love the little things in life, it’ll reproduce greater love in you. It’ll also stop you from a death in– by cancer before August of next year. You can put that cloth on you.

We’ll care for you when you are sick, as people can say. The sister we’ve been– been walking around here that’s in the wheelchair, she’s been– being walked every day, done therapy free by the nurses. Stoen: If it’s all right with you, Jim, uh, uh, Tom Grubbs got a phone call from the assistant to Assemblyman [Alan] Sieroty asking us to uh, uh, circulate some uh, petitions for saving the beach, saving the ocean coastline, and if anybody would like to come up here afterwards who would be willing to circulate one of these petitions around, we’d appreciate it. There’s a deadline I think of June 9th that these have to be turned in.
Jones: One of the assemblymen have sent to us I– this letter– I passed on to Tom that had– Tom had been writing about, and it’s urgent. I don’t want just some. I want you to take it with heart. Let’s not let big business– We stopped it at my ranch when they wanted to take and chop up this beautiful country. All right. The power of this church and its motivations, this kind of spirit stopped it and we can stop this. The mutilation of our beaches– If all of you will take a sheet, because the government is upon the shoulders of Christ.
Man: That’s right.
Jones: If you’ve got Christ in you, the hope of glory (Colossians 1:27, “which is Christ in you, the hope of glory”), then the government’s on your shoulders. Now that’s something that’s never been taught enough. But you’re responsible for this world, because if you don’t overcome the problems of this world, you’ll face them again, and again and again. Whatsoever you sow, ye shall reap (Galatians 6:7, “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.”). So be sure to get these sheets. How many will take a sheet and get signatures? Wherever you go, they’ll be applicable. One of the congressmen of the state, the assemblymen have asked us to do this.
